This may be a trivial thing here, but I think part of why RAMs aren't selling is they've deleted the dip stick so you can no longer check your oil yourself. They've done away with transmission dipsticks and now oil dipsticks. These car manufacturers are becoming dictators with their product and removing your right to repair and it seems no one's paying attention to this. You pay 100k for a truck that's been designed in such a way that you can't work on it. And the companies are making it where even small repair shops can't access the software needed to fix these vehicles, only certified dealerships are allowed to work on them more and more. These money grubbers are basically refusing to give you full ownership of the product you buy from them just so they can squeeze as much future profit as possible with repairs and maintenance. Who in their right mind would willingly 'buy' a vehicle they can't even check the oil on? If I'm going to pay any amount of money for a vehicle I demand the right to work on what is MY PROPERTY once I pay it off. Mopar is being destroyed, Chrysler's grandson is right. With the economy teetering on the edge of recession no one wants to take on that level of debt even it they can afford it right now. The car companies are asking for money that people don't have. The car industry need to get with the program and start making cars people want and can afford to buy. They keep discontinuing their cheaper vehicles.

used car dealerships are closing or converting to repair shops. This is absolutely correct. In my area alone they have built two new repair shops for cars and they are always packed. Recently a very large used car dealer up the street for me converted over to a repair shop and he’s already doing way more business than he ever did selling used cars. as you said everyone is holding onto their cars longer. The money is now in fixing and maintaining.

My family has only ever bought 2 new vehicles. A 1985 Ford Ranger (a total POS), and a 2006 Toyota Corolla LE (still going strong). So first of all this is what so many consumers in recent years DO NOT understand: "The main purpose of a car is to get one from one location to the next rather than for it to be a status symbol or something to show off,” said Jania. “Provided that the vehicle is safe and will do what it is supposed to do, it’s recommended to avoid paying the top dollar for a vehicle, especially because it is depreciating." Now add into this vehicle manufacturers greed and then after a new vehicle goes to a dealership more greed i.e. "market adjustment" stickers? Add in lots and lots of non-value added electronic whiz bang plus refer back to consumers not getting it that while a vehicle is a necessity in many cases it is also a cost to be controlled from purchase to during ownership and also one to be minimized i.e. "buy for want and not need" plus if having to borrow $$$ for it as minimal as possible. Then add in this EV fantasy world where most folks have range anxiety as well as lacking in infrastructure so let's build big huge EVs that have little to no range and again keep those prices very high - around $50,000 starting..... Gee I wonder why it is an industry being turned inside out? Hmmmm.........🤔🤨🥴😵😵💫

The only way Chrysler and Dodge could survive independently would be to focus solely on a RWD platform and V8 engine and make retro musclecars in their old nameplates. One plant making 250,000 units annually spread over Charger, Challenger, Super Bee, Imperial, 300 could be sustainable as far as demand for the product. The could even bring back the Plymouth brand and make Barracudas and Satellites. That and have a second plant dedicated to Minivans. But stay away from the FWD cars and CUVs, those are pure commodities now. But even that plan seems unlikely. Overheads in automotive development and manufacturing are massive.
