This is not by accident. Being a good communicator has a lot to do with gifts in understanding languages, social & reflective analysis & social objective correctness, which are kind of important in intelligence, especially HumInt, i would suppose

@@sxne47 yeah, they told me that in the Army and I qualified 2nd in my company during Basic. Never seen a real gun in person before then. It has to do with your sights and biases from before the military.

Believe it or not, the USAF accepts pilot candidates who have not achieved a private pilot's license for the same reason(s).

As a firearms instructor for a federal LE agency, I do find that portion of his story a bit suspect. As if new hires, regardless of whether they owned a gun or not, would not get the "from the beginning" firearms training. Gun ownership is not indicative of skill or safe handling.

I still remember the entire marksmanship training in the Marine Corps. They made a far better shooter than I ever thought I could be. I ended up teaching the men in my units how to free hand fire a M60 machine gun and walk your way to the target after a couple of rounds shot.

My friend was a drill sergeant, and he preferred to teach marksmanship to recruits that had never fired a gun. No bad habits to unlearn. Obviously, the people who had previous experience started out better, but most of them had (objectively) bad instruction from family and had to unlearn a lot.

How do you go into "spin around" from driving 1mph, after hitting the breaks, and going into neutral? Under 2 seconds? I could break, start reversing fast and then maybe spin to drive away, but that spin would be not aerlier than in 5th second....
