I found this video really useful actually. Not just from what's said (i.e. the kickoff phrases), but also from the way you play through the kickoffs several times on different tunes. Basically: know the melody, lots of crosspicking, a lick or two at the end. job done. Thanks.

Pyure gold, I say there Hayes, pyure gold! Now I'm going over my song list, and marking them 1, 3, or 5. So far, most are 5. Some, I've already worked out a nice kick off. Others, like Blueridge Cabin Home, have an iconic kick off that I try to honor. For many though, I could plug in a generic line, better than nothing. I already do some of these, but let others surprise me. Thanks Hayes
