Thanks for the tips and reminders. I have had a pair of hiking boots for years, and now they fit better.

Thank you! Everyone always talks about heel slipping but not the toe jamming on the downhill. I’m going to try this.

Can you give any advice for lacing hiking boots for someone who has a high arch and a problem with heel slippage? I have very narrow heels and high arch. Where I need to window lace to accommodate my high arch is the same places I need to tighten to prevent heel slippage. Is there anything that I can do that would solve both problems?
@thacic84802 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend some really good high arch insoles, maybe some volume reducers for high arches. - Going to try my best to explain this visual… After your window lace, when you go back to the crossing laces in the next set of eyelets, do a surgeons knot BEFORE threading the laces through the next eyelets after the window ends. Then I’d try doing the lace lock in this video as normal, or even try without and see which is better. - However, personally this lace lock in this video doesn’t work for me, and I do it differently, I’ll try to explain that also. I do the deep pull eyelet first, (should be the first eyelet around your ankle) then I go straight to the eyelets at the very top, then the eyelets in the middle, then I tie my laces as normal from the middle. Now, if you do this method, when you get to the middle eyelet (your normal lace tie knot) you can try a normal knot, OR try a surgeons knot again. Personally on my boots, the surgeons knot gives me a hot spot in this location on one ankle just because of my foot/leg shape, but maybe it would be different for you. I hope you figure this out, even if my methods don’t work. Good luck.

Bummed out that the problem I’m having wasn’t covered. I just got great hiking boots from Foxilla. They are super comfortable except they are digging into the top of my outer ankle and no matter how I loosen or tighten them I can’t seem to alleviate that pain. Tips anyone who’s had this issue?
@Terradrift2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like the structure and stiffness of the boot. It may loosen up after you’ve broken them in. A thicker and/or taller sock covering the area may also help.

I like that boot🥾😍, where did you buy it?
@Terradrift3 жыл бұрын
It's a Altra Tushar! You can find them online but they've been discontinued. We recommend Lone Peak hikers: alnk.to/60TdIs2 (paid link)

I've got a conundrum. My Achilles tendon is getting smashed by my boots. Is that because they're the wrong size or am I not tying the boot right?
@Terradrift3 ай бұрын
Good question! We're not podiatrists or anything, so definitely aren't achilles experts, but do all hiking boots do it or just one pair? Have you tried low-rise shoes?
@sbc2893 жыл бұрын
Does the Altra Tushar, come in a Mens' version? (Are they true to running shoes in size?) I like to expand my toes sidewards, when i'm city-walking. But the law enforcement boots I bought, are heel slipage.
@Terradrift3 жыл бұрын
While you can still find the Tushars online, Altra has discontinued making them. We’d recommend looking at the Altra Lone Peak Hiker instead: alnk.to/2uArix2

I was tying my own shoes since I entered Kindergarten (5yo), shortly after, Velcro strapped shoes were popular, and a lot less tying of laces became the norm.

I tie my "bunny ears" slightly towards the outside, so they don't catch the open eyelets on the opposite boot. (Apparantly I walk funny) 🤦😀

Alisha, recently I thought my Merrell hiking boots were leaking because after a couple hours just sitting in my office and especially at the end of the day, my socks were very damp and toes were cold. I have been trying to research reasons why. We’re having unusually cold weather and snow for western Kentucky. I’m now thinking I could be wearing the wrong socks. The Merrell aren’t very old. What’s your opinion? Jay
@Terradrift3 жыл бұрын
It could be a lot of things! Your shoes could be too tight, they don't breath, or you could be wearing socks with cotton or some other organic material that holds moisture. Or it could be all of the above!
You are the one doing it wrong !!! THE BILL OF YOUR CAP GOES IN FRONT !!!

@Terradrift2 жыл бұрын
The Berluti is a nice knot. It and the surgeon's knot accomplish the same thing, though, and I find the surgeon much faster and easier to tie.
