Always good to cover the basics. I generally find that one tack is favored over the other, in other words you’re able to point higher in one direction more than the opposite tack and sometimes it requires multiple tacks before getting back to the board. Another problem is a strong contrary current may cause the board to actually drift upwind.

I'm my opinion the strongest point to understand is to do not point too much upwind, at least this for me years ago solved the recovery of the board, because it's really difficult to body drug upwind many degrees if not impossible, but body dragging slightly upwind it's easy and most important the board slowly will come down!
