Hi there, nice explanation- thanks for the video. In the Surfr app, a perfect jump is considered when having a almost perfect crosswind course ( high speed at takeoff but no upwind riding - only the J-hook into the wind) How does this concept compare to the 45degrees upwind angle you are proposing? I’m a bit lost with these different concepts

45 degrees upwind is just a reference point, the key is maximizing your upwind angle to speed ratio. If you are able to ride fast and into the wind, you should get more height in your jumps. Try that in comparison to riding cross wind on your next session, and let us know what you think. Thanks for your feedback!

I believe the surfer app can add solid data. but I believe that if you can match your speed with e max upwind angle you will get much higher. Aaron

@@ewatersports Thanks for your feedback. How about you having a chat with Mike (The BAKL Mike ->Gethighwithmike) on this and make a video together, comparing the two concepts? I’m not the ultimate expert on this but in experience going too much upwind when taking off, brings you typically in a suboptimal angle when landing and the angle you can comfortably send the kite to get enough pull to ride away

@@kitingholger9826 that would be awesome, we have spoke many times. In making this video I had no Idea how many professionals would be critiquing my work. I believe that I hit home a certain degree of isolation on knowing that the perfect combination of all three will give you max altitude. Putting into the equation that max upwind is not quite literal and unachievable but should be focused on while increasing the speed as much as possible. Quite possible without throwing a protractor at it, an angle less that the max angle, causing a bit more crosswind approach. Guaranteed success if you follow my steps. Prove me wrong. And after you leave the water, you are just a paraglider, its up to you to position the kite for a smooth ride away.

Great video ! But it is only volume 1 and we need volume 2 ! You could explain the importance and difference between edging and carving. And also the timing : do you redirect the kite (send to 12) before or after carving ? Do you pull in the bar before or after leaving water surface ? And the most important in my opinion: when do you send the jump ! Before, after or right wen the kite hits 12 oclock ? Iam struggling with this last point as I leave my kie way to long at 12 before jumping and loosing all the tension I built in the lines. Keep going with your great work !

I would say edging is the bases of applying the boards edge. and carving is the act of making an arching turn. You should never pull the bar in while carving away from your kite, it will blow out your edge. And you should send past 12 for maximum pendulum effect. Ball on a string, you are the ball. Balls don't have lift.

Thx Aaron, super helpful. Have been working on tuning my jumps for a while. Today I took your advice to the limit and focused entirely on upwind angle at the expense of speed. Immediately got my highest jump of the day, even though I was moving much slower than normal. Great tip for holding edge, will keep working on it. Thank you!

Thanks Dee, Once you have mastered this, now start implementing more and more speed, by selecting the perfect kite and board set up, that still allows you to have max upwind angle. I hope you continue to fine tune your skills.

Hey Aaron!! Sick video as always. What drills would you suggest to get better at phase 2 (more speed) without losing that upwind angle? When I try to get faster I’m inevitably losing it sometimes. Wonder if you have tips or drills to focus here!

I think that best result you get if you relax and go just a bit upwind and just when you see a the right wave or chop ramp to jump on try to accelerate and just when you are before that ramp edge hard and aim for 45 degree direction. If you go hard upwind all the time, you lose speed and get tired. Don’t pull bar full till just before take off, otherwise you lose edge. Would you agree?

That was awesome. Very helpful. Thank you. Do you have one on board sizing. I'm trying to understand why freestyle rides . Like riding big boards. 153. Is a lightwind board too me. 144. Is the smallest board he likes to ride in the videos.

We need to do a video on board sizing for each discipline. Freestyle/wakestyle the names get confusing and blended. When you are able to use such a large rockered board youll be able to go much slower and technical. The smaller the board the more power youll need.

Hi Aaron, thx for this. As I start to jump higher and more vertically, I started to have issues with spinning in the air. Any tips about body position in the air to guarantee that to help secure the landing ?
@ewatersports
@ewatersports Ай бұрын
The spinning usually results from not a proper release. Either shifting your front sholder down wind or to far upwind. Ive had some students have a forward spinning action from having to much speed, taking off with front sholder square with wind and then oversending the kite. Which results in a forward rotation and kite way off to the edge of the wind window. If you learn some rotations then youll get comfortable with accidentally spinning.

@@ewatersports thx 😊 🙏. Im working on the basic backroll in parallel, and have other issues (kite control). So will continue to work hard on these! 🙏

After you release from the water, you are now a paraglider, not a boarder. Release and focus strictly on the kite. If you lose control, don't jump as high. Keep climbing the ladder.@@danielbinisti1913

It's just not easy to do the 'J' hook while riding fully upwind!! Any suggestions ? Thanks!!
@ewatersports
@ewatersports Ай бұрын
It’s a mixture of proper gear, proper speed. I’ve had my biggest jumps only going 15-20mph. +70’ The pop to j hook is used quite often with pros. You could also go smaller on the board. Small enough not to be sluggish but small enough to hold a proper edge.
@ewatersports
@ewatersports Ай бұрын
Turning into our most controversial video. I stand my ground if you truly follow the steps. and rules. SPEED will alway give something more velocity. Maximizing apparent wind with course and speed will also maximize power with altitude. Riding max upwind with max speed will get you higher undoubtedly. Add the last factor of the perfect gear selected and you have a equation for success.
