Riddle me this: What's the audible difference between increasing the attack time and blending in dry signal?
@mixdownonline2 жыл бұрын
Blending an over compressed signal with the dry signal will make the sound more "in your face". A slow attack will not give you the same effect. One is not better than the other, it all depends on what you're mixing and what you want to achieve. Hope that helps!
@alanredversangel2 жыл бұрын
@@mixdownonline Thanks. I can never visualise the difference when thinking about the transients but that makes sense.

@RP-vq4wd2 жыл бұрын
My dear colleague, you havent mentioned that a slow release time added a significant peak to your signal and made it quite louder when it comes to digital peaks, most likely has decreased your rms value of your signal, changed the dynamics of that signal, and finally in some cases colored it. You have to be bit more advanced when you explain such a delicate thing.
@mixdownonline2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and for watching my video. I don't use slow release times on drums. 30ms to 100ms is considered a Fast Release. A slow release time will actually do the opposite,as you mentioned and push an instrument back in the mix, and not make it louder. Secondly, this video is about the Attack time and adding punch to drums. Talking about the release time is a topic for another video. I like to keep my videos on the short side and easy to understand.
@BrofUJu2 жыл бұрын
10ms is still a super fast attack time for drums and a kick, no? I usually see people sitting it around 30, I don't even mind going as high as 50ms for a kick
@mixdownonline2 жыл бұрын
Between 10-15ms works pretty well for me, but I play it by ear since not all compressors will react the same way. Whatever sounds good for what you want, is the way to go.

Chris... I've spent 45 minutes chasing that free download from Waves. It is an extremely and unnecessarily convoluted process. I know it's free, but they could have gotten this done in 5 minutes or less - including showing me all their other cool stuff. Normally, I don't comment on this stuff, but it's just extremely annoying and can't be good for their business... if you can communicate this to them, you should.
