Hi both surprising how difficult it can be sometimes to tell the size of cables , I had a peace of all the various cables with a through crimp on each one . So you could do a visual comparison, and if possible but the end of the cable your not sure about it the end of the open through crimp . This can save a lot of time in the long run if it’s vital to know the correct size of a cable . Best wishes and kind regards as always

unless the goalposts in BS1363 have been shifted a double socket is rated for 20A not 13A,even so a drier and washing machine is a bit too much

@15:10 I don't think I'd be worried by 16mm tails feeding the Hager board with a single 32A circuit - I think it comes under 434.2.1. More concerned with lack of RCD on it as it's a TT. If there are 16mm tails feeding the Square D board I'd be more concerned

100% 👍 no fault protection to a cable containing metallic parts isn’t the ideal situation

Interesting indeed. I would advise you to put a clamp meter on all “earth” conductors BEFORE disconnecting to check if there are any stray currents present. Should there are any there ( and often there is ) serious injury could occur, as well as safe isolation, check for stray currents.

Why are the 16mm tails (only capable of carrying 32a) under sized? Are they rated for thermal effects in the event of a short circuit? What happens in a bud bar chamber arrangement?? Biggest issue with that board is the SWA has no fault protection offered with exposed conductive parts. (Glands)

Just takes a bit of common sense sometimes. I know if I had a 100amp fuse with 16 amp tails on the end regardless of potential load etc my NICEIC inspector would tell me to change them. What stops an uneducated idiot connecting 2 showers to that sub board and overloading the tails.

Rectifying on the day if you can, is a value added compared to the 'list of fails' 3 EICR a day crew.... it's a pity it's so rare (yes we do it :P )

Great video as always, Thanks for making it. I have an off topic question. What is the Non-Conductive Dielectric Grease you use sometimes when you fill outdoor box with it? I can not seem to find any even at electrical suppliers where I live. Thanks

8:00 Are you sure that's a Ring and not a Spur? By the looks of that cupboard, there could be ANYTHING in those walls... Personally, I wouldn't have even tried to do an EICR in that house, I'd have taken one look at that mess and told the Customer they need a complete Rewire and FAST...

At t=16mins A double socket is rated at a minimum of 20A not 13A, some are (were?) rated at 26A (edit and see below)
@Cjrelectrical

Really which brand? I know bs sockets are rated at 13 amps for the entire socket. Hence the use of single sockets on high load kitchen appliances
@MartinE63
@MartinE63 2 жыл бұрын
@@Cjrelectrical From the British Standard BS1363-2:1995 requires for double socket outlets that both socket outlets have loads applied via test plugs, 1 test plug having a load of 14 amps whilst the other has a load of 6 amps, making a total load of 20 amps on the cable supplying the double socket outlet. The double socket outlet is then subjected to this loading for a minimum continuous period of 4 hours or longer until stability is reached with a maximum duration of 8 hours (stability being taken as less than 1 degC rise within 1 h). The test is passed if neither the terminals / terminations, nor the accessible external surface, increase in temperature by more than 52 degC. Supposedly from the MK catalogue All MK socket-outlets are manufactured to comply with BS1363 part 2: 1995 and are rated at 13A per unit. Double socket-outlets have been manufactured and tested to exceed this rating by margin that allows electrical safety and reduces the risk of heat and mechanical damage to components due to overloading. It should be noted that BS1363 part 2: 1995 does not allow double sockets to operate at twice the permissible maximum loading and it should be remembered that double socket-outlets are not manufactured to be able to withstand a 26A load for sustained periods of time. Research by ourselves and third party organisations has shown that all MK double sockets can safely withstand a continuous load of 19.5A for an indefinite period. Increasing the load slightly will begin to cause heat and mechanical stresses on the components in a relatively short period. Testing showed that a load of 22.3A was sufficient to cause heat stress that would cause a browning of the faceplates and sufficient heat to cause insulation damage to cable cores. A load of 24A for 43 hours was sufficient to cause significant heat damage to the material in which the socket-outlet was situated and within 75 hours sufficient to cause significant damage that would lead to the very real potential of fire.

@@สมบัติสตีเวนสัน-น6ษ in hindsight it might not have been MK, it could have been Crabtree, this was about 35 years ago, a specific set of circumstances where a 13A BS1363 socket was the only one permitted on this particular site, with temporary chargers plugged in for very large 50v and 110v batteries. Couldn’t have a fused spur, or a ceeform socket either! The MK catalogue quote *IS* historical.
