Thanks for the video. Love the colour changing LED's but I don't think I'd want them in the kitchen perhaps a bedroom but obviously, that's the customers choice. the cupboard lights through look awesome. Fair play to super rod for giving a tool bag to young James I think I even saw a hint of a smile. :-) He's a good lad though, it's so hard to find good apprentices these days the youngsters don't seem to have the work ethic of us old-timers but he's golden one to hang on to. How long before the strip adhesive gives up and it all drops off? Speaking from experience....yes I did clean the surfaces first...the heat softens the adhesive...
@Monkeh6164 жыл бұрын
It is possible to get the strip all the way to the ends (or closer, anyway) of the profile under the cupboards, but it's fiddly. Rather than having the cable attached to the end (with that massive heatshrink tail), you can run it down the profile and solder on to the strip at the mid-point. Obviously it needs the sheath off and some care around the entry, which is why it's a pain. Not a big issue when you can't see the profile directly. Big run at the top looks good - actually better not going to the ends there IMO, I don't think it'd look as nice with a strong reflection off the painted wall.

Nice tool bag👍👍. Get the kid some type of multimeter, or duspol. You won't be able to watch over him all the time, he should have something to test the voltage, to check if he has a live wire or not. Its counterproductive for him to find out why people call us sparkys.

2035: Apprentice: "What's that?" Electrician: "Oh that dusty old thing? Multi-coloured LED tape - was all the rage back in 2020. You come across it in all the time ... most of it hasn't worked for a decade or more and the home owners can't be bothered."
@Candisa4 жыл бұрын
The LED-tape will probably work for a long time, but I wonder how that app colour control will age. I suspect people will have a semi-functional old phone or tablet laying around just to control those LEDs because the app hasn't worked on newer phones for years anymore. Maybe a 2.4GHz accespoint as well since Wifi technology will probably move on beyond that as well, if we'll even still have Wifi and home internet connections now that 5G supports speeds faster than most people have at home. Stupidest thing I ever encountered were unswitched light sockets that were intended to use with remote controlled CFL lamps. Those lamps cost a fortune while burning out in a matter of months, got out of sync constantly, randomly switched on or off when a kid was playing with an RC toy nearby, and became obsolete just a few years later. Of course this system was used in multiple rooms all on 1 mixed circuit shared with bedroom wall sockets.
@thisismissem4 жыл бұрын
@@Candisa iirc, you can also often get IR Controllers for a lot of these LED lights, rather than using the "internet of things" adapters for controlling them.
@Candisa4 жыл бұрын
@Neil Partridge In my own house I just brought every circuit of light and every control position back to the box (even split up a downlight circuit that functions as one in case I want to split it up in the future) and use modular teleruptors/timers/dimmers on everything, no 12/24V stuff. Also ran everything in 2.5mm² and brought neutrals in all controlboxes so I can replace or expand every control point with a socket should I ever want a socket on switch-height without damaging anything or running new wires.
@Candisa4 жыл бұрын
@Neil Partridge Thanks, I've got some help from my dad with the rough work, but I did the wiring myself. Reading the code, taking my time to understand what everything means and how it works, looking up how things are done and think logically about what's right and wrong... Took me a while and I had everything inspected before putting it in use. I lived a year off of a temporary board with 1 circuit of lights and 2 circuits of sockets but it was worth it as I wouldn't have been able to afford to have so many sockets and lights with such a variety of control and futureproofing if I had to hire an electrician to do everything.
