Yes and no, you can set it up so there's a 20 second buffer before and after an incident, so it seems like it's constantly recording but overwriting the files pretty quickly. Personally, given how advanced these on-board infotainment systems are, I don't see why they can't record much longer durations with more options like standalone dashcams can. I feel better with my third party units recording any incidents than the BMW Drive Recorder.
