THANK YOU for acknowledging the invasive nature of English Ivy in the US! As responsible gardeners, we should not be planting it at all. So glad to hear that this fatshidera is NOT invasive…love those huge, prehistoric leaves!

The Ivy has to be my favorite, I love that it’s variegated , and has HUMUMGUS leaves! It’s a show stopper for sure! I have experimented with grasses before, not a big fan, but I do love the chartreuse color of the little one you featured! Maybe, I need to revisit grasses, particularly in my hosta bed! Thank you for introducing some great new plants 🙌🏻

I bought that colocasia Waikiki for a container arrangement this year because I loved its look. I’m happy to learn more, so thank you, I’ve been uncertain of it’s happiness so far. The container stands in the shade of the house until 2 or 3 pm and then gets blasted with sun from the west and it seems a tad crispy. I’ll keep it more moist and report back.

Hi from SC! This year, I made the decision to have a very tight budget for my garden and to omit some of my smaller landscape pots, only planting up my larger ones with plants i over wintered. You inspired me last year to plant dahlias so I have 28 different tubers at the moment😂

Thanks for the cool video! I tried to order the “Waikiki” but it was sold out, hope to try it next year. Am intrigued by the Everillo and will definitely pick up some for my shade gardens if I see them locally. This year I am growing a red Abyssinian banana thanks to your fun videos on it! I’m in central Ohio 6a, and may try building a structure around it and stuffing it with shredded leaves to see if it can overwinter. Plant Delights Nursery says that’s possible.

My favorite is the first one! I have a small non variegated tree ivy I got at a nursery for $4 2yrs ago. I keep it as a houseplant. The growth habit is so pretty. Kind of like a peacock feather the leaves look like a fan all facing one direction . One of the easiest plants I have. So far no pest issue. Leaves perk up after I have let go a bit on water. Rarely fertilized. I have seen someone on KZbin limb it up like a lollipop, it was cute. Can’t wait to see how yours do especially in the winter after you bring inside.

Love that Carex! The color is so striking; would really light up any spot it’s planted in. This year my focus was on plants that were more drought tolerant since my house is going to be listed for sale mid-to-late Summer, and I didn’t want to burden a Buyer with having to water every day. A new plant for me is Euphorbia x martinii - Spurge “Ascot Rainbow.” Gorgeous colors and such a beautiful shape. I’m so looking forward to seeing how it looks in a month because the leaf structure is very colorful and lovely right now. Thanks for sharing Erin. Your Allium looked glorious swaying in the background. :)

Not sure where to ask you questions Erin, but here is one about dividing plants. I have some wooly thyme and it’s spread in one year incredibly. When I thought I’d divide it, I realized it had runners that seemed to have rooted all along the creeping stems. Are plants like this unable to be divided? I just couldn’t figure it out.

The Royal Hawaiian Waikiki colocasia is something I’ve tried to get for the past couple years. It’s hard to find, for a reasonable price, probably because it looks fabulous. I’m excited to see the progress on yours since I’m in the same zone. When yours does good I might be more willing to spend a bit more and bring it inside for the winter. Good luck! I want this plant to do great for you.

My favorite is the carex. I'll be on the hunt for it. Last year I picked up 6 little carex that were green with a white stripe that I had in my front porch pots that have some young boxwood spheres in them to fill in the pots while the boxwoods got established. I'm in zone 6b and did keep my pots watered over the winter. None of the carex made it through the winter. They were put in towards the end of the season so maybe not established enough to make it but I was disappointed in that loss because they were so sweet with their super fine texture. Not giving up on them but just haven't seen any this spring to grab and get in early. Any tips on them overwintering in containers?

I have close to 25 spread throughout my 8a woodland garden. The oldest is approaching 24 inches across, the rest are 18 inches or smaller. It’s very tidy and doesn’t run around at all. Just a clump. Gets a little beat up in winter, but cutting it back made it look awful. I just rake it out and it fills back out again. Looks great on a slope or walkway edge.
