The rule of thumb for oven -> air fryer is 20% less. 20% less temp, 20% less time. You can always cook it longer, but if something gets a little dark like your cake you can't roll that back 🫤

The one I've always heard about & used is 10% less temp (than fan oven), 20% less time. e.g. 180C 1hr => 160C 48min 20% less temp would be 144C which seems too cold.

If you are going to try a different brand, consider a non-basket model. There are front loading ones with a couple of shelves that are much more versatile when it comes to cooking several things at once. It would be interesting to see which kind you consider better, front loading/with shelves or basket.

Lots of people have probably said this but here goes. When cooking in an air fryer you should knock the temp and cooking time down. When I started I cooked for half the time then tested with a food thermometer. Usually you don't need the whole second half of time. Also I would recommend using an oil spray bottle because it's been proven that the propellant in the shop bought sprays damages the non stick coating on your basket. I use a Cosori 5.5lt and I blooming love it.

We bought a double basket Air Fryer, which is a little restricting for some things as the baskets are not quite as wide as the singles. But i already knew i wasnt going to be doing any cakes/scones/bread and things of the like in the air fryer. What it is good for is cooking different things at different temperatures and different times and having everything cook and finish at the same time, which is just what i wanted. We do most of our cooking in the air fryer now, it is cheaper as it cooks in three quarters of the time and heats up faster. All in all although it was an expensive peice of equipement it is well worth it, and some things cook even better in the air fryer, Some things stay even more succulant imo, sausages are incredible and cook in just 12-16 minutes (not frozen) depening how well you want them. Frozen chips can be done in 12 - 16 minutes depending on how many you put in (Dont ovefill). Also Veg tossed in a drizzle of oil and salt/pepper then air fryed to a little bit charred is nice and also fairly healthy. If you like TOFU, try cubing some firm TOFU, drizzle of oil salt and pepper and air fry until crispy/ slightly golden. Overall, energy saving, healthier than frying and time saving. What you can not do is cook whole meals for a family of 4 in there (depending on what that meal consists of), you would have to utilize other methods such as microwave or hob. If you have to cook in an oven type environment like oven or air fryer (an air fryer is, a very small fan assisted oven) and the air fryer isnt big enough then you may aswell just put everything in the oven.

The air fryer I purchased is a 10.6 quart Innsky with an oven type door and a window. It comes with 2 mesh shelves, a bottom pan shelf, a rotisserie for a whole chicken, a mesh cylindrical rotisserie basket and a set of meat skewers. I got it for $146 Canadian dollars. I also purchased a set of baking pans to fit it and a 600 Innsky recipe book. I made cake yesterday. Just a box cake that I had in the pantry. The batter filled the smaller bundt pan and 2 small loaves that I baked separately. It was a bit of trial and error, with temperature, bake times and placement of shelf. But eventually figured it out with a lower temperature and the lower placement of the rack so it wouldn't burn before cooking through. Next time I'll try a from scratch cake from the Innsky cookbook.

I decided to buy one after your last video in this series, spent a little more for a dual drawer one with separate timers and functions but we plan on using it instead of the oven much of the time. It definitely fits the bill as far as chips are concerned but with other things I've found it necessary to reduce the temperature by about 20 C and the time by 20% then play it by ear. Standard times just burn the food. Still better than the oven though as I don't have to wait 15 minutes for it to heat up, there actually isn't a preheat on my air fryer and the destructions specifically state not to preheat it.

What you need is a double air fryer. I've just bought a Ninja and it has two compartments. If you want the food in each compartment cooked and ready at the same time, you just programme it for the temp and time in each compartment and it makes sure it all finishes together. My Ninja gives a choice of air fry, bake, roast, and reheat. I make fish and chips in it with fish in one side and chips in the other. I'm not sure about the peas tho.. I'd rather just put them in the micro. I also have some silicone inserts which fit the inside of the pans which avoids lots of washing up. I just put them in the dish washer each time. The Ninja tells you to cook things at 25 degrees lower than an oven and that is maybe why your cake was slightly burned on the top. Frankly, I just experiment and see what I think.

I use the Instant Pot all the time, both for pressure cooking and air-frying, love the thing to death, and it has the pre-warm stage. Also, for a variation on the English scone, as nice as they are, PITA to make, try the Aussie Scone recipe, much much simpler :D 4 cups SR Flour, 300mL of cream, 300mL of Lemonade (the fizzy variety, so 7-up or Sprite, here in Australia we have Kirks Lemonade, which has no lime flavour in it).
