Not to say CDMX is the safest city in Mexico, but overall crimes have significantly dropped since 2019 - 60% less now. 2017-2019 were some really dark times for the city in terms of rising crime, so it is a great relief knowing they have declined and the city is safer now.

I'm so sorry about your horrible earlier experience. When I was a teen, and traveled with my parents to Mexico for the first time, they emphasized not dressing like a tourist. No tennis shoes, no sweatshirts, one pair of jeans, maybe one t-shirt. It has worked so far. I've traveled many places alone and haven't had any problems. Too bad you didn't enter la Casa de Azulejos, the National Palace on the Zocalo, the Basilica, or Ideal Bakery. Next time. Chapultepec has a long history. It was originally the Aztec emperor's summer home, later Ferdinand and Carlota built the castle. It was invaded by the U.S. (memorialized in the Battle Hymn of the Republic). The large monument with the tall columns at the base is in honor of the boy heroes, military cadets, who defended the castle against the U.S.

My husband is Mexican and I am Puertoriccan, we have not yet visited each others countries, so this year it’s one of our bulletpoints on our to do list. His dad died when he was baby and he is buried in a cemetery in CDM. It’s one of his dreams to go ( he hasn’t been since he was 5) and be on the only presence of his father since he had memory. This is definitely a list of places to go following this once we have the opportunity. Thank you so much, I love your videos. It makes it easy for folk like us that don’t have a lot of money to see what we can expect when we are able to afford a nice getaway. ❤

I really enjoyed this. I am flying solo to Mexico City in 2 weeks. What I learned is traveling as a solo female travel is going to be very different than a group of 4. But, in a city of 21 million, I will fit in. I did NYC as a solo and got pickpocketed in Times Square. I was in London last summer and learned to visit the ATM at 8-9 am, later means I became a target of panhandlers. So that was a good reminder, sorry you got mugged.

I spent months and months and months there between 2005 and 2019. I walked around drunk and alone at night in tourist areas, and non- tourist areas. I flagged down random taxis in the middle of the night. I never had a problem. But I'm big and ugly and lived in many big cities, and I grew up in the hood and knew how to carry myself so I don't look like a target. I'm sorry that happened to you. They were probably watching the atm and followed you from there. If folks stick to the busy areas, travel in couples or groups not too late at night, and dress and act like locals who know what they're doing and what they're going it's very unusual to have trouble. Cops are never your friends there or in the US. Try to seem not to see or notice them. And as you said. Try to carry only what can be stolen, and no expensive clothes, and no jewelry.

He is AMAZING! He is not only a driver, but will be your translator and will recommend different restaurants / sites / schedules / museums. If you travel one city over to Puebla, he is from Puebla and can show you all the best of everything! I cannot wait to get back there again. In case you ever get mugged or victim of any other crime, look for light poles with a Dot sign, they have Panic Buttons that put you in contact with the Central Monitoring Police and they have personal that speaks English, if you do this quickly they can rewind the Cameras to look at the event and fast forward while they follow the perps. With a very high capture rate. So it is wise that as you walk you locate these posts in case you ever need them you know where the closest one is.

18:00 I don’t think it’s because the tortillas are warm. If you warm up cheap store-bought American corn tortillas they still fall apart. They might even fall apart more. Freshness maybe, quality of ingredients, the fact that they weren’t stacked up and sticking to other tortillas for weeks, those might be factors.

My car was broken into twice in broad daylight, once in Springfield, Missouri, and another time in San Francisco. Despite reporting the incidents to the police, no action was taken. In San Francisco, I was informed that car break-ins were unfortunately common. My point is that it's unfair for outsiders to fixate solely on negative experiences and blow them out of proportion. I've lived in the US for half of my life, and these incidents don't define my overall experience. I don't begin my descriptions of cities in the US by emphasizing these incidents.

I've traveling around Latin America for almost 2 month now. How do I stay safe? 1) I've been staying at a lot of hostels and homestays. Locals who are friendly with travelers can tell you the areas to avoid. And other Motorcyclist too. Also the tourist areas are pretty easy to identify and can be considered "safe". Seems there is an agreement with the gangs to leave tourist alone. Media headlines negatively effect tourist dollars. Then the police crack down and makes problems for the gang's earnings. So it's generally bad for business all around. 2) Luck - A few weeks ago I was in Quetzaltenango (Guatemala"s 3rd largest city). It was almost dark and I was having trouble finding a hotel with parking for the bike. Someone stopped me and basically said 2 more blocks was a red zone and I'd be beaten and robbed if I went there. But going in the opposite direction was fine. Luckily this was in front of a hotel that had a room and parking. That was a close one. Unfortunately traveling in Mexico/Central America can be hazardous, however the risk can be mitigated with planning and for thought. Friendly people are all around. Whenever someone approaches me from curiosity, I always inquire about the safety of both my route and destination. For every 1 bad person, there are 50 goods ones!
