RIP Grandpa Fry. It’s crazy as I sit here in freezing weather homeless living out of my car watching the exact opposite, someone who’s living their best life in the most beautiful locations. I wish it would put a spark in me saying I can do it too, get out there and do something. But it doesn’t, sadly, I’m 29 years old and believe I’m too far gone and forgotten in this world. I still love watching your videos Nick, perhaps one day things will get better and I’ll attempt a Fry style adventure.

Hey man - future reference if you're cooking meat you're unsure about. General accepted is that meat (and most cooked/prepared food) at a temperature between 5degreesC and 60degreesC resting (temperature/bacterial growth danger zone) spoils, or begins to grow unacceptable levels of bacteria about 4 hours in. Because you didn't know specific temps you definitely did the right thing burying it in the lowest temp you could. When you cooked the meat though, rather than getting the pan ripping hot and focusing on the outside sear, try a reverse sear (cook medium and slow til cooked through then pump the heat for outside colour), or you could boil then sear the fish to reduce the possibility of food poisoning as much as possible. Worth keeping in mind for these scenarios in the future, but generally safest bet is to just make sure you have an esky on hand or catch a fish you can eat in one sitting. Great vid man, and condolences to you and your family.
