Thanks for taking us along. My wife and I stayed at Hotel Las Torres, near the end of your trek, for a week seven years ago. We did day trips and short hikes and it was fantastic! You had better weather than we did. So windy some days, we could hardly stand up. Great accommodations and food at the hotel.

Spectacular views as always Alice. You had a room with a view at that hotel. It is amazing sometimes the kind of stuff some people might carry on a trail. Too many assume hiking and especially backpacking is like going for a simple walk in the park. It is not. A person gotta have proper gear and be ready for the eventuality of elements kicking in unannounced. There are always risks out there and nature doesn't care if you are prepared or not. On major trails, an orientation session should be enforced, make sure hikers got their gear and they are experienced enough NOT to bring a hair dryer. The backcountry is not a safe environment, and one has to be compatible with the challenges, and this is why we get into this 🥾😎⛺️🏔️

Yes I agree. I will say the West Coast Trail is the only trail I’ve done to date that had any kind of mandatory hiker orientation and it was needed for many

Nice job capturing the scenery and different camping options. We just finished the O-trek and found it to have a totally different vibe. In fact, we had a bit of culture shock when we got to W stage. If you ever go back, do the towers at dawn. The colors are simply stunning. We were lucky to have good weather to capture the experience both here and at Fitz Roy.

That’s amazing, I tried to do the O but couldn’t find dates that would work with either month I’d be in Patagonia. The W was even a bit of a culture shock for me especially at Refugio Grey. I thought hiking up to the towers again but was way too tired for another hike when I was done

Great views, people have to remember that this is summer in the southern hemisphere. Your recap of costs and amenities is helpful, missing dinner would be a bummer for sure. For people with food restrictions I would say pack your own food and you don't have to keep to the same time constraints for getting to base camp on time. Strangest thing I have seen on a camping / canoeing trip was a boy scout that packed a Risk type board game in his duffle bag, ( like when do you think your going to have time to set it up and play when we are traveling 60 miles down a river ? ) I see people in airports with the double back pack system, basic training ( 2 duffle bags ) and then there are paratroopers jumping out of planes.

Yet again another gem, So inspirational. I am so ready to plan another adventure. I am thinking either the Laugaveur or TMB.. Thank you for allowing us to join in your adventures. As for my splurge items.. I am a bit over the top with pillows. I typically carry at least 3 pillows. pretty small and always looking for something different. But i have trouble sleeping in a tent at times, so pillows is something i always carry. Not too heavy but can take up space in my pack..

@@AliceFordAdventures My last trip i brought with me the Nemo Fillo. I really like that pillow. it is a good combination of inflatable and fluffiness (yes fluffieness). My other Pillow is the Therm-a-rest compressible pillow, also i have a field and stream pillow i got from Dicks, years ago for about 5 bucks and its really awesome. I was just looking at some full-size pillows to try out on my next trip. To be honest i have about 10 different pillows i have tried. and those are my favorite. But I tend to be a gear junkie and have quite the gear closet in my house.

Hi Alice, Andrew from Down Under here. Just watched this video, looks great! And nice overnight options. Can I ask, roughly how much per day did it cost you per night on the trail. Also, you said that the trails can get busy in the afternoons, does this mean that if you’re a dawn starter line me, most trails will be quiet? Now to answer your questions, 2 packs? I saw quite a few in Nepal doing that last year with the smaller pack on their front. I carried a 25L attached to the top of my 45L pack but I was there for 9 weeks. But yes it was a challenge carrying around 20kg (45lb) everyday at high altitude. My luxury item I take everywhere is Teefa, my footy team teddy and good luck charm. Aww I love you take a Teddy. So as for prices, camping is run around $55 Us per night for one person but some sites are much cheaper around $11, the Refugios are somewhere between $100 and $145 depending on location and what bedding you get. Premium tents also range and are expensive $140 to $190 with sleeping bag And yes if you’re an early starter you will have lots of time alone the end and beginning of the trail have the most people though as these are entrance and exit points for many. Hope that helps

Thank you. I was alone on this hike, no camera crew, I shoot it all myself. This is certainly in my top 5 for National Parks. But might be even higher if I’d had a car and been able to see some of the other harder to reach areas

No, I never felt scared in this park. There’s actually quite a few people and I never saw any signs of puma in this park. I did see puma in Patagonia national Park, but they are quite fearful of humans and not a threat.

Hotel Lago Grey arranges car service for you for arrival and departure either as part of your room rate or for an additional fee. From the main entrance there are also buses to town but the schedule is a bit wonky

No different than the hotels in the U.S. parks. Our park lodges in most of the parks are between $4-600 a night as you get unmatched access to the park
