Thanks for making this video, Meghan! I'm a HUGE fan of deep breathing. During my 60-day health anxiety recovery I discovered the power of not only deep breathing exercises, but also an overall greater mindfulness of my breathing patterns - at times when I'm feeling anxious, or not! To overcome anxiety it's key that you not try AVOID or RUN AWAY FROM uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, sensations and situations - lest you validate the fear in your subconscious mind, empower the anxiety, unwittingly ensuring it comes back, stronger and more frequently than ever. So, I made sure to practice deep breathing ALL THE TIME. Eventually, I improved my breathing skills (yup, breathing is a skill!) to the point where I was breathing more deeply ALL THE TIME, reducing my baseline level of anxiety, while raising my ability to respond to acutely challenging situations when they arise.

Thank you so much. I've been going through the worst days for the past 3 days just questioning everything due to the difficulty of college. I've been feeling so overwhelmed and stressed to the point where it has affected my sleep, my eating, and prevented me from enjoying what I'm learning (I love to learn). I really appreciate this. I'm definitely just going to take the time everyday and do this and some meditation. Thank you :)

These are great! I find that when I'm having panic/anxiety what calms my racing heart most is to inhale for 5 sec, HOLD for 5 sec, and then breath out for about 8 sec. The holding really seems to force me to focus on that and not on anything else and the forced longer exhale does wonders for slowing my heart from pounding. Love all your videos Meghan!

I’ve been having a couple attacks since October thinking it was just my blood sugar. After going to the doctors and getting every test under the sun it was determined that I’m actually having panic attacks. Apparently my aunt went through the same thing when she was my age. As much as that sucks, it’s nice to see that there are plenty of videos online and a community to help you get through it. I’ve never encountered something so scary, so I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this

90% doesnt know who to breathe properly so i would say the best breathing technique is concentrating on ur diaphram musscle pulling it up and down (belly goes out and in while relaxing ur shoulders) really fast for one minute... in the beginning u will most likely got problems here and there, so belly going in while ur breathing in or the other way around... dont judge urself just take a sec and finish the exercise. After a while u will get the hang of it. namaste

I've been the same way since I was eleven years old, and the best thing to do is find a therapist who specializes in anxiety and/or trauma. There are certains types of therapy such as EMDR (the kind I've started) that help your brain process anxiety without inducing panic and teaching you to control it. If that isn't for you, I also find going to forums like reddit where people list their own experiences and advice helpful. Best of luck

I will be sharing with my community page "The We Team of TBI Survivors" on Facebook as I am a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor and we brain injury survivors often have horrific issues with stress & anxiety disorder post brain injury (the cortisol our brain floods us with reeks havoc with us on a constant basis) . This will help many, I'm so sure! Bless You!

@jenniferstokley31126 жыл бұрын
FYI ... a concussion IS a Traumatic Brain Injury. If it doesn't resolve in the 4-6 weeks like doctors hope, what your dealing with is Post Concussion Syndrome. This can last for months, even years or ongoing! Anxiety & Depression are one of the most common issues we deal with, besides Short Term Memory Issues. Also, seizures are so common post TBI. I myself deal with Grand Mal ones, and have to take medication to keep them in control. Also, Insomnia is a Huge Issue for so many! My prayers are with you always!!!

Useful video. For overthinking problem be careful what you feed your mind. Avoid comparing your life with others, reduce watching negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Your breathing is related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. For a relaxed mind observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath sensations at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. You can sit or lay down on the bed--eyes closed--No deep breathing. Don’t fight your thoughts. With practice the mind will relax. Never meditate with expectations but with self-awareness. Observe your breath anywhere -anytime-- before sleep, at work, when travelling, taking a walk, etc with eyes open or closed. Like me make breath observing a lifetime habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

It really helps to relax.. my anxiety suddenly attacks. I feel like i have a heart problem, rapid palpitations, and short in breathing and feel like almost about to faint. Im scared what might happen. Worried all the time. Iv been to emergency room in hospital couple of times and they check my heart (e.c.g. ; xray) and all have normal results.

I didnt realize there were actual names for the techniques I have been using the first two. I like to switch back and forth. Is this too stimulating to use at night when trying to fall sleep? This is what I have been doing. I am a chronic insomniac.

Of all the techniques, I found this to be simple one but its effects I will inform after practicing this. Is every breathing exercise to be done for five minutes. But how many rounds. Thanks.

I get this weird breathing situation when I’m really conscious of myself when everyone can hear you breathe when it’s really quiet, my breath is sitting really high and my breathing becomes more forced as I’m panicking even more because I think people will think something. When I’m comfortable this sounds dumb but right now I’m in one of those situations and it’s really hard to get out of it, when you (in my mind) cannot sigh really deep or something because then, you know, people think things.

I like 4-5-7 breathing. In for 4 counts, hold for 5, out for 7. I do like all these you mentioned. Also, during labor, I naturally gravitated to a ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa exhale. Very empowering and calming.
