You may want to caution those with a history of stroke not to do any extreme head/neck positions. Ischemic strokes can be caused by arterial dissection, which occurs when a small tear forms in the innermost lining of the artery wall. Extreme neck positions and manipulations -for example, sitting reclined in a ‘shampoo chair’ at a salon, or having chiropractic neck manipulations- have been linked to an increased risk of stroke.

As a board certified physician with many years of experience, i appreciate these exercises. All doctors see anxious patients. All doctors need to know non-pharmacological interventions such as these.
@sarafawkes49674 жыл бұрын
Hi Gene, I was impressed by your desire to utilize some non-pharmacological interventions. Just to let you know, most licensed psychotherapists (such as myself) use a multi-modal approach to the treatment of anxiety disorders and therefore will teach/practice 'somatic' and body centered interventions with their patients (such as those in this video) in addition to traditional relaxation training and the more 'cognitive components' of psychotherapy. Most therapists are also happy to collaborate with the patient's medical doctor, and you may find that referring to a therapist may increase your ability to provide complete care which (based on your comment) is important to you. If you are interested I'd be happy to give you some info to help you form such professional relationships in your area. Very warmly, Sara

If you need some more methods, another free one is EFT tapping. Very easy and can/should be done many times. Brad Yates has numerous videos on different subjects. Just watch, tap where he taps and repeat the phrases, simple as that. It's supposed to allow people to release or reprogram what isn't working for them, affecting the subconscious mind (where programs are stored). Some of them we don't even know about, but they are there and playing constantly.

Hi! I'm about to tell you a bunch of stuff you might already know and I'm not sorry because it's important!😂 As a rule of thumb, those are only supposed to last about 30 minutes, so you may have been having back-to-back attacks. If that's common for you, I hope you speak to a physician or psychologist as medication may be necessary, I know it was for me. It's wonderful to know drug free ways to cope, but your quality of life matters and is important for you and those who love you. Doesn't have to be anything that could potentially really impair you, or a ton of meds a day either. Sometimes a mild antidepressant alone can help a great deal (yes, really!) or even a mild prescription antihistamine less sedative than benadryl. If insurance is a problem sometimes local behavioral health centers have either a sliding scale or will work on getting you help with insurance while also providing care until it comes through. I apologize for the unsolicited advice, but it might help someone if not you and your comment reminded me of myself and what I wished I had known WAY sooner. No one should have to suffer and I wish you good health overall! 🙂

Agree with you 100% about the just change your thoughts BS! There's so many books that instruct to do that, and mindfulness methods and breathing methods, and on and on. The brain needs the rewiring and the cause behind the tension needs to release! There are programs for rewiring too, but they say to think happy thoughts, pleasant thoughts, and on and on. It's in the body, and these are very interesting techniques. On the first side bend one, I started rapid breathing and something was happening. I'm going to go back to it. But my neck really hurts on the left side from bending to the right, even bending just a little bit. Doing that has made it a lot more painful. Thank you Sukie, you're very knowledgeable.

Changing thoughts can absolutely decrease anxiety and stress. I have anxiety which gives me an upset stomach. In moments where I am mindful, the anxious thoughts and stomach issues go away. This is the first time I have EVER heard someone say anxiety has a physical aspect to it. I've been told it was all in my head and if I could think it through I could fix it OR a pill could fix it. On my own I've learned to handle it over the years. When I discovered the vagus nerve, it was an eye opening, ah-ha moment, because one of my symptoms when anxiety was triggered flashed though that pathway like an arrow to my solar plexus. When I put 2 and 2 together it was a light bulb, life changing moment. Never have I considered there was actual exercises I could do that would help to physically release the iron fist that wouldn't let me get anxiety under control. I could feel it a bit the first time when I half heartedly went through the 3 simple exercises. And then later I did them paying more attention. It's amazing that I can physically squeeze the nerve that has been so in control of so many terrible moments in my life. At the very least it's a start. And to think I almost dismissed this video and scrolled on by. I'm looking forward to learning more. You have my undying gratitude ♥️

Know how you literally feel your stomach flip when you get bad news? That's your vagus nerve in action! Direct connection between your brain and stomach. There is so much research occurring around the vagus nerve and we are going to learn much more in the next few years. Did you know that some scientists now believe that Parkinson's actually starts in the gut and travels to the brain via the vagus nerve? It's facinating

@lindachandler22933 жыл бұрын
@@ursulamackinnon119 I'm sorry! I confused you! I watched her video about manipulating where all that bundle of nerves come together in the center of the chest and took it a step farther. I had forgotten that what I added to her exercises wasn't actually in her video. Again I'm so sorry I confused you. I do do her stretches, but I go a step farther. When something embarrasses me or makes me sad, I get a very distinctive feeling that starts where the bundle of nerves comes together in the solar plexus or heart area. It is an almost electric feeling that runs out my arms and up to my jaws; it is instantly accompanied by intense feelings of sadness or dread. To physically counteract that feeling instead of just letting it control me, I fold in on myself like I had been punched in the solar plexus. After seeing her video I did a lot of research and learned to counter act that feeling by sucking in a huge gulp of air and throwing my chest out, then I immediately blow it out, bowing my shoulders and letting my chest sink in. I might have to do it 3, 4 or 5 times. I'm as she says physically affecting that part of my body. After I do those quick motions to make that part of my body 'get distracted' I do her more simple stretches, which brings things more back into balance. I sure hope I haven't been even more confusing.

I literally cried harder than I ever have and at the same time felt more at peace than I can ever remember. Having suffered from a traumatic brain injury that was left undiagnosed for 30 years there is a huge amount of social and relational stress that has built up in my body. I've spent the last 2 years in therapy using EMDR which has been absolutely phenomenal but I have found that there were things that I could not penetrate and it seems like this is something that is going to help me to move into those areas and realize more success. It was interesting how similar these exercises impacted me compared to EMDR. I've only recently realized that there was childhood trauma that I needed to work through in my life. However, I've had a lifetime of living in a body that is constantly alert, on edge and trying to contort itself into the fetal position at all times. Two months ago I had a hernia surgery and the moment I came to I felt a brief instant of calm and living in a relaxed body which was immediately followed by extreme body contractions and muscle spasms. As soon as I heard you reference this in your video I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for. I was right! After only 2-3 weeks of doing your exercises everyday I had a release in my sacrum last night while laying in bed. I didn't move for 20 minutes because I was afraid it would all come back. Then my entire body just let go. I'm not tense, alert and on edge at all times. I'm not involuntarily holding my breath. I did some research and my hypothesis is that I was locked in the freeze response and stored the trauma in my S1, S2, S3 area. Your video has helped me move that trauma and changed my life! I also have arthritis in my spine so bending/turning to the right was limited. However, going left immediately triggered a cough that lowered my heart rate from 99 to 77 very quickly. Awesome. Thank you so much.

Omg…. I haven’t felt calm pretty much my entire life. I’ve done therapy.. used coping skills. I’ve expressed that I believe talking isn’t going to help anymore because I need a physical release. I learned that the body stores so much trauma.. even things we don’t remember… and in just a few min of learning these techniques you’ve saved me from of life time of trying to figure out what I needed to do to simply feel relief. Thank you so much. Please continue what you’re doing!

The first time I took my BP after doing these exercises, the reading was 134/63. That's quite an improvement from 156/70. Thank you so much for this life changing/saving information.

My mother passed in 2019 and I have had such a difficult time coping with the loss. Anxiety had built up in my body to a tremendous level to the point where panic attacks began this year, and an extremely tight diaphragm. These exercises have helped me a great deal.

I am right there with you. I've had 2 horrible losses in the past 10 years and it has created such horrendous health anxiety. I feel like sometimes I literally can't breathe

How often do you do these exercises? Do you only do these 3 or are there more?

This makes so much sense. Emotions are tied more closely to the body than to the brain. The exercises were effective and I will add them to my routine.

Thank you. I have recently discovered the issues I have tied to my vagus nerve and this week I had a massive upheaval in my life and I’ve been locked into anxiety nausea for 4 days. The anxiety is a physical feeing in my belly keeping me from eating. Today I’m holding down more, but this constant feeling in my stomach was not letting go. I just did your exercises and that feeling is gone. I know it’s not cured and will try to creep back in, but I will be returning to this video until I have these exercises committed to memory. Thank you!

I felt that release, I wasn't expecting it too happen but came from the base of my spine and right through my body and out with a huge yawn. The sense of relief was wonderful. Thank you so much

I suffer from chronic migraine and intense vasovagal reactions. Definitely have a lot of tension in the neck. These exercises were shockingly uncomfortable, but its really exciting to explore physical relief or reprogramming.

I was in tears and did the one on your belly in a chair with my heart extended. Thank you I am a business owner and am going through so much lately and never had time to process my trauma as a child. This should help me with therapy because I had to stop because my feelings were too strong and I got to the point you explained where it stopped working for me. I am excited to add this to my daily routine and am so grateful for you sharing this knowledge in an educated and loving way. sending you so much love

Dear Sukie, your explanation of why it doesn't work to release anxiety by discussion of thoughts, and why releasing tension physically with these exercises will work, makes so much sense. I tried the exercises and will keep going with them. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much. The exercises had an immediate effect for me of stability, comfort and ease. Similar to Hannah Somatics, Yoga, Qi Gong, Feldenkrais, etc ...but different. Your exercises gave me a growing feeling of comfort and wellbeing... of freedom and ease, so nice! The effect stayed and grew after the exercises had ended. The feeling is more than just being relaxed; but being who I am, warmly, here and now.

@@SukieBaxter hi sukie, its a very interesting concept which makes good sense. Have you come across a technique called cranio asymatry? It's the idea that your jaw needs to be balanced in order for breathing to become normal. This is done by slowly adjusting your teeth into alignment. There has been some extraordinary results. Over 50 different conditions have been overcome with this practice including ME and chronic fatigue syndrome. It's interesting as it seems to work similarly incorporating the nerve system. One of the founders of the technique believes all of the nerves in your body are connected to the teeth, when you start to balance the jaw the nerves seem to find a free path way and thus the brain receives more oxygen. This also repositions the atlas bone which is essential for jaw symmetry. If you'd like to know more here's a link to one of the founders. Dramir.com Thanks for the insight

Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve been stuck in fight or flight for almost two months and it’s been incredibly difficult to cope. My mom also deals with anxiety and she told me about somatic exercises, so this morning when I woke up shaking from anxiety again, I ended up finding this and I cannot believe how much relief I got just from the first stretch. I did all of them and I feel world better than I did just this morning.
