It was a night of August, and Mario was once again going to save the princess... He was in the 5th world (of new super Mario bros U) when he fond a Yoshi “this could be useful” he said, not realising Yoshi was also a living being Soon, both found a bottomless pit and Mario, once again, sacrificed Yoshi to get to the other side. Only this time, he wasn’t able to reach the other side and fell into the abyss Luckily, the pit wasn’t so bottomless and both were still alive. They wake up in a cave surrounded by piranha plants Mario though that he could die and respawn outside of the cave, but it was pointless, so he decided to reconcile with yoshi and find a way out together (but he was still willing to sacrifice him if necessary)... [the story continues in 3:04] So... that’s a backstory I think could fit well... (Excuse me if I made any grammar mistakes, this isn’t my first language)

These are pretty clever ideas. I've sometimes thought about how it would be possible to have levels where you must keep Yoshi til the end, but the only ideas I had were for them to add a one-way wall variant that only lets you pass through if you are riding a Yoshi. It's cool to see it's something you can actually achieve in-game, even if it means designing your level in a certain way.

No Damage Level:Idea 1: No power-ups in the level at all.Idea 2: One mushroom spawns on Mario at the beginning, but no power-ups are in the level... And there is a brick lock at the end requiring Big Mario to break. This can not work in the Super Mario World style unless the brick is on the ground. New Super Mario Bros. U style can support both ground pound method and jumping to hit the brick. But both Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 styles only have the jump-to-hit-the-block method.

@@arandomguy1237 after further examination, it seems they changed the story at some point because punching yoshi was cruel, and made this new pointing story canon, but here's a quote from Shigefumi Hino depicting the original idea: _“Lots of people think that while Mario is pointing his finger foreward, he’s saying ‘Go,’ and Yoshi’s tongue comes out,” said Hino. “However, the set up that I drew was that when Mario punches Yoshi in the head, the character’s tongue shoots out in surprise.”_ this came from Hino's original idea to make a horse for mario to ride, which evolved into yoshi during development, and in the same way a rider whips their horse to make it go faster, mario punches yoshi to make him extend his tongue. It's ironic cuz in the original game, there are no pits where you have to jump off Yoshi and dump him into a pit, some people just choose to do it anyways; however, in these stages that are supposedly designed to make you not dump Yoshi, they have instances where you have to either dump Yoshi or come up with some convoluted round-about way in order to get pass the pits.
