While I was in Afghanistan my friend was making a video of our deployment to this song. It was almost finished and he was killed three weeks before we were supposed to come home. I feel him every time I hear it.

Holy shit man I'm wicked sorry to hear that. I really really hope that his family knows that and is able to put this on and feel a part of him as well. Merry Christmas by the way. And again, super sorry for your loss. 🫂

I’m 🤨🤔at a loss for words; that never happens. I’m so proud to be an American bc of soldiers like you & brother/sister soldiers that will put life on line for me, a stranger♥️ Pretty much 90% of my family, extended family, in-laws, yada yada served in Military & I’ve lost a lot of family & friends growing up Military (still pack & set a go bag by front door & I’m almost 25x2😢 I’m long winded like my Paw-Paw, apologies, I just wanted to say I super 🤬 hate when a great song immediately takes you to a time & place that hurts; like opening an old wound. Mine was song that played before this; 2nd Chances, my buddy Danny had hard time w/being home after Afghanistan & all he saw & so he suicided 16 & 1/2 months being Stateside 😢He introduced me to that song & now it hurts to listen sometimes; just like this song reminds me of losing my brother. I do love this band though ❤️

Damn. I’m at a loss for words. My cousin was 82nd airborne and came home from Iraq messed up. Over medicated from an IED blast. He left us 7 years ago and everytime I hear this song, I think of him. I think of his wife and kids. I can’t thank you enough for keeping that battle over there and not here on our shores.. A Co/2nd BAT 325 AIR

@daylenswift9 жыл бұрын
What I love about this video is that it shows our battle is not only in this world but on a spiritual level too.. Ephesians 6:10-16: "1Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Yes, thank you for our troops..Thank you for making this video. My brother was shot and killed over the summer, right in front of me and his family. As we are trying to understand it all and move forward...I kept hearing this songs for many days afterwards and it somehow made me think that he was reaching out to let us know he was safe, happy and telling us to continue to love him and move forward. So, thank you...Huggers..

Brother I'm sorry to hear that. You just have to rebuild like we do all the time. Sometimes letting go of our old life and building a new one from the ground up is the answer. We are taught how to do that in the military. Use that to do it in your civilian life. Just because you are rebuilding doesn't mean you have to feel as if you are restarting. Semper Fi soldier!

I've always thought this song represented what it meant to be in the military better than any other song...all those songs that glorify or even merely focus on the fighting, the conflict, the country, that isn't really the tough part...the tough part is the moments between battles where you miss what you gave up...and hope you can come back to.

"When I'm Gone" There's another world inside of me That you may never see There're secrets in this life That I can't hide Somewhere in this darkness There's a light that I can't find Maybe it's too far away... Or maybe I'm just blind... Or maybe I'm just blind... [Chorus] So hold me when I'm here Right me when I'm wrong Hold me when I'm scared And love me when I'm gone Everything I am And everything in me Wants to be the one You wanted me to be I'll never let you down Even if I could I'd give up everything If only for your good So hold me when I'm here Right me when I'm wrong You can hold me when I'm scared You won't always be there So love me when I'm gone Love me when I'm gone... When your education X-Ray Cannot see under my skin I won't tell you a damn thing That I could not tell my friends Roaming through this darkness I'm alive but I'm alone Part of me is fighting this But part of me is gone [Chorus] Or maybe I'm just blind... [Chorus] Love me when I'm gone... Love me when I'm gone When I'm Gone When I'm Gone When I'm Gone
