He has depression they give him medicine no counseling only the 1800 suicide hotline is a solution they stated. I am so upset. Yet Migrants in NY get free hotels , dental, free food. The one time the command structure brought happiness on board a Aircraft Carrier. The good will generated by the Captain/Admiral was beyond words. The men and women at war felt better after this concert in the hanger bay. Thank you 3 doors down and the Navy personal who made this happen. 21 years later , it still brings goose bumps every time I listen to this tune This song is now up there with Brother's in Arms as the Anthem for the modern military

God Bless you all for recording this song!! My oldest son served ten years, Army...with two deployments to Afghanistan. The last deployment the truck they were driving ran over a IED, which demolished the truck. So bad that you couldn't tell it was a truck...just a pile of steel. Amazingly only minor injuries until two days later my son had a seizure due to the wreak. They brought him home to do some testing. Diagnosed with TBI, PTSD, seizures, and psychical injuries. I'm so happy he is home in one piece, but he has some issues to figure out! Thanks again for supporting these soldiers/veterans!! Jesus is Love~~

I served 8 years in the Navy, Desert Storm, '91 and I know EXACTLY what it means to leave family behind... and seeing the sad faces on these people brings back the memories and the tears -- that's just something vets live with for the rest of our lives... and though we don't know each other personally, we are a BROTHERHOOD that never dies, sharing the same purpose and experience of serving this great country we live in ---- that NEVER changes and love us or hate us, we STILL do what we have to do.

God bless you and your son. Tell him an old Devildog Sgt. said hello and tell him to thank God that he is alive. I was in Vietnam 19 months. I joined the Corps at age 17 in 1967 and within days 3 of my friends joined. Crazy. We all served in Nam. One guy, Bill W. got shot to shit but he has lived a full successful life. He does have night terrors, still. One guy, a second Bill…..humped m60 ammo. He has had a good life. But, he has PTSD. My best friend, Denny, humped a radio and then was the radio man for the company commander on hill55. He has had a successful life. But, he prefers solice. Me, I take pills for depression. I am a building contractor. We 4 have all been paying that price you pay when spending time in a combat zone. But, we are stubborn fuckers….Marines….and we keep pushing….pushing….May your son do the same. I don’t know if he is a Marine or Army or what. Just keep pushing. He will have mostly good days. Semper Fidelis Dave Heitman in Omaha. P.S. I just reread your comment and see he was in the 82nd Airborne so he is Army. That being the case , when he reads this comment, you better help him with the big words. And tell him that bathing and soap won’t hurt him. Ditto, a toothbrush. Army………..Army……
@EileenHeitman8 ай бұрын
I joined the Marines a few weeks after high school graduation 1967. 3 of my buddies joined a few days later. We all did time in Vietnam. I landed in Danang on my 19th birthday. I wanted to be there. I did 19 months voluntarily. My friends……..Bill W. , Force Recon, was shot up bad his third month there. He came home and had a good life though to this day…some 50 plus years later, he still has night terrors. Another Bill….Bill E. humped m-60 machine gun ammo. He came home , got a history degree, lived a good life….he has PTSD….takes meds to smooth things over. Denny J. humped the radio on patrols and was the Commanders radio man on hill 55. Denny prefers solice. He has had a productive life but likes solitude. All 3 of these guys divorced. I take pills for depression. Anyone who has been in a combat zone is paying a price. But…….I’m a licensed building contractor in Omaha. Still working at age 74. I’ll work ‘till I can’t walk. The Marine Corps instilled in me…..push…push…just keep pushing. We, all 4 of us, do just that. Tell your son to push. My days are a mix of good and pain - in - the - ass……but I’ll never quit. I see your son was Airborne. That means he’s not very bright. Help him with the big words if he reads my comment. And encourage him to take a shower once in a while and brush his teeth. After all…….he was in the Army. These behaviors may be foreign to him. Semper Fidelis Dave in Omaha

Such a fitting tribute to those service men & women who sacrifice so much for so little pay & respect. This video brought tears to my eyes as I too know what it’s feels like knowing my son is deployed, facing God knows what, away from his children. The loneliness & despair they all feel when they away from those they love. This is truly an ungrateful nation. When I see the unruly mobs & criminals taking over our streets enjoying what they do while our service members are away sacrificing, it’s pathetic!!!

Me and my husband went through the same. This song used to make me ugly cry! Our son was born during my husband's 2nd deployment to Iraq. My hubby didn't meet our baby boy until he was 4 months old. I'm so grateful that my husband is alive and well after 8 years in the USMC, which included 4 deployments overseas.

I was 18 when this song came out and i had just joined the military, i really thought it was a cheesy video/song at the time but then again at 18 you think you're invincible and there's no need to be sad. @Giovanni This is going to be way too long but I’m just getting it off my chest. No one has to read it if they don’t want to. Giovanni I couldn’t agree more. I’m guessing you went in right before me. I didn’t go on the initial push which was just insane so if you were a grunt on the ground during that i can’t imagine. Even in 2005 when I deployed to Iraq it was still crazy. With what is happening in Afghanistan right now it’s really hard to put my feelings into words. For future reference today is August 16th 2021 and the US is withdrawing nearly all troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban conquered the country in less than two weeks with no opposition from the Afghan army that we trained. The Afghan army abandoned their posts and ran at the first sight of the Taliban. Leaving all of the weapons and ammunition that the Afghan army was supposed to use to defend itself. Last night the Taliban was sitting in the Afghanistan Presidential Palace.. I searched for these songs bc the whole thing has me feeling some type of way.. We lost too many men and women only for the Afghan army to act like the cowards we knew they were and run at the first sight of the Taliban. There were some really amazing Afghans as well and right now I’m praying we are able to bring them to safety.

I was on the ground in A-stan, with the planes from this carrier flying CAP over me, when this was shot. My oldest daughter was born just weeks before. Thanks guys.

My husband used to work on the road... This was a song we would play for each other after he would leave.... This song was played at his funeral a year ago.... I still tear up whenever I hear it. But it will forever be a song between myself and my late husband...
