At age 13 I switched my backhand from two to one-handed. The guy who taught me how to do, was a very skilled old player who had played multiple times with former professionals like Ilie Nastase. He then always told me "the swing comes from the hip". Even 25 years later, I still almost do the same stroke technique and everybody is telling how beautiful my backhand is. Thanks to Stefan K. to Vienna or Palm Springs. Haven't seen u for more than 15 years.

Guys, I recently started incorporating hip rotation into my backhand as well as my forehand. I think this detail is the most important element of the modern tennis stroke. I often warm up without a racket and just rotate my hips and let my upper body drag along after. This split second delay between hips and torso is key to the kinetic chain of power. I think you guys should develop drills that teach hip rotation as the starting point of the stroke after you’ve reached the ready position.

Thank you very much for this video. For those who do not speak english in France It's my pleasure to translate and summarize such relevant advices.

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial The sliced backhand was used by most players of my generation lacking a modern lifted backhand. It can be a very efficient weapon when the ball falls as near as possible behind the net. It is also a means to neutralize powerful shots that you may receive. It offers other possibilities provided one is able to choose a proper direction for the ball. May be this theme could be of interest to you; Your duet formula in my opinion is an excellent idea. It's lively and very pleasant. Forgive my english. My french is better. Congratulations and thanks to both of you Olivier de Saint Blancard

Very good. There is this principle of using the non hitting arm to stretch backward a lot but this can prevent a proper hip rotation and also create tension in the swing. Wawrinka is a good illustration of this as his non hitting arm remains quite loose and doesn’t stretch back at all.

Hey guys, One of the best 1HBH videos I’ve ever come across. Something that I struggle with is trying to keep my weight back (so that it can be transferred forward into the ball at contact) while also keeping my right shoulder down/staggering the shoulders as keeping your hitting shoulder down makes you want to lean forward naturally yet concurrently you need to keep your weight back. If this made any sense, do you have any tips for this? Thanks & keep up the great work
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Try lifting your front foot off the ground when you are loading up, you don't need to overdo the shoulder drop either, it's a very slight motion that shouldn't throw off your balance. Wawrinka is a good example, he does it very slightly. By lifting the front foot, you'll be forced to load up and stay on the back foot until you're ready to transfer the weight using the heel to toe motion

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I'm coaching JV Boys tennis and haven't looked through your whole library of videos -- but my #1 item doubles positioning and movement strategy.

I'm trying to get a more effective backhand and in the process of trying the one hander instead of my two hander. Thank you for posting this!

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Yes, it would be great to have have strategies for dealing with nerves and / or anxiety during matches and tournaments. I'm not sure if that format would work for an online tutorial, but I thought that I would ask anyway. Keep up the good work and God bless you two.

What I would really like to see is a espn "Detail" similar to what Kobe did for basketball, really get into the set up thinking the pros use during a match.

Thanks a lot. The one handed backhand can be a challenge if you don’t know those tips. I tend to slice it but it’s not very effective. Great video.

I grew up watching Muster and learned his backhand -- now everyone is in awe of it and I'm like, damn, I've had it since I was a junior. The problem is that no one hits one handed much anymore so to see a crazy one handed everyone is like, "that's so beautiful to watch." I am thankful that I could never master the two handed -- sooo different. Oddly, my most powerful stroke.

It’s unbelievable how complicated this is, the amount of body mechanics involved.
