Your husband's commentary is great--he adds so much humor to these videos! He sounds like a sports commentator! The "I am Oriental myself" remark was too funny. And no--that is not tartar sauce, but it sounds tasty. In fact ALL these sound delicious; I will have to try these very soon. First, though I have been given pickled daikon which is going into some miso soup. Yum! Loved this history of the rice burger.

My father is from Japan (でも私は日本語に良いからここに英語を使います😅), and I love Mos Burger so much that I try go once a week when I visit Japan I’m surprised you called the egg mixture “tartar sauce” - in America, “tartar sauce” is something very different and this mixture seems more like what we’d call “egg salad” here I will definitely try to make several of these wonderful recipes here, especially the rice buns - どもありがとうございます!

Okay, he got me. When your fella said "DESTROYER, KING OF DESTRUCTION", I laughed. Tell him he's good at banter. As an aside, what sort of soya sauce did you use? To my understanding, there's light and dark soya sauce, but I've no idea what the difference is or if it really matters.
@JapaneseCookingChannel Жыл бұрын
Haha, I will tell him about that 😁 About the soy sauce, Japanese soy sauce can be thin or thick, but that is probably different from the American (other country's) version. Japanese light soy sauce is quite light in color, so my soy sauce will be the normal dark colored soy sauce. I am not sure if that is what you call "dark soy sauce" in English. Anyway, you can use either type of soy sauce!
@daviddavidson6289 Жыл бұрын
@@JapaneseCookingChannel Awesome, that looked like a really good marinade, usually I go with soya sauce, brown sugar, onion/garlic powder and pepper. It does the trick, but I would like to figure out more marinades. But, thanks for the head's up, I'll keep it in mind.

I like this rice burger idea even just as a bit of variety. I think it will be good for serving scrambled eggs (with green onions), a Japanese-ish breakfast sandwich. Have you or your husband tried his egg salad tartar sauce on the carrot & burdock? I grate carrot into my egg salad sometimes, and it's good, so I think the flavors would probably work together well in your burdock burger.
@JapaneseCookingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much as always! Oh, you are right. I should make the breakfast version of it. We haven't tried the tartar sauce with carrot. Sounds great! I will try to make it next time. Thank you for your idea :D

Since you like collecting useful tools, there is this wire slicer that i use to slice fruit, and also “mash” the eggs in a short time. Slice one way, 1/4 turn, slice, lots of tiny cubes! :-)

Hm. I really have no idea. Burger resutorauntsu don't really have a problem in Japan, but maybe US HQ thought it was a funny marketing idea. I'll go with that. "Everybody says it's huge." because it is! When carrots grow too big in my country, it's not just the peel that cracks, but it can go right down to the core. Since the climate isn't that different (okay, I'm saying this lightly, since Japan spans like three climate zones), maybe it really is a completely different sort of carrot. Maybe we should import the seeds and try to get bigger carrots. Although... I think the smaller ones taste better when it comes to courgettes. Not really sure. You had me at aburaage. I'm a fox-spirit. I want to eat that kinpira right now! All I have is Chili con carne. ToT The banter between you and your husband is so sweet and wholesome! I... uhm... I guess "oriental" is not used as a derogatory term in Japan, since it means "Where the sun rises", while "occident" means "where the sun sets", so western countries. And since Amaterasu is a big deal in shinto culture, I guess you didn't know that this term is sometimes used derogatory in the west. Let's get those rice buns made! I'm always for changing a recipe to my liking or another person's liking. When I make anything for myself, I always over-season it to the point that it's inedible to anybody but me. I could drink a good vinegar right from the bottle. Yet I have been called to friends' birthday parties because their cucumber, potato, and noddle salad contained nothing, I repeat, NOTHING but salt and pepper. Us friends were teenagers, it was her birthday party, and her mother didn't know how to make a decent salad. Pitiful. That kinpira looks so good! Lol, I was totally wrong this time! Love your videos!
