I'm still a beginner at LECA but I have figured out a few plants that seem easier to grow in through semi-hydroponics if you are an amateur or beginner at the system. I've also learned a few beginner tips for switching plants over to passive hydroponics that I think you will find helpful if all of this is new to you. #LECA #Semihydroponics #Plantwithme

Fenestration (fen-neh-stray-shun) means with Windows or “windowed”! It’s from the Latin word fenestra, which means window. Defenestration means throwing someone out a window, which is actually kind of a thing in history (eg the defenestrations or Prague in 1618)...

I would also add that you can go halfway mark for water or above one third if your plant was transitioning from water to leca as they are used to water so starting with water and slowly drying out to leca could be a good choice

I like the option of leca. My only issue with having leca is that I really don't want to spray all of my plants to get rid of pest. I had mealybugs so bad that I ended up going with a chemical systemic that goes in the soil. I will spray those plants too and hope that both methods will get rid of them faster. I am in an apartment with limited space to quarantine my plants though I do have a dedicated space for it, the issue is when I found them originally, they were on 15 - 20 plants at the same time. My quarantine space can handle maybe 5 - 10 depending on the size. It was a bit overwhelming and I had a hard time. You have to keep them quarantine for at least 4 weeks and I think I did it for 6 weeks. I didn't want any lingering monsters to get at my other plants. I was able to free most of those plants from the mealybugs and then I saw them on other plants. This is where the systemic comes in and one of the plants was a leca plant. I had to do something fast b/c I have about 10 plants in leca and the only way to save them is spraying. After this book I am posting, I am trying to find a way to keep the leca, put more plants in leca, and keep the plants free of monsters w/o using a systemic chemical. UGH!!!!

As someone who has historically NOT had a green thumb and is desperately trying to grow some plants, I just feel overwhelmed by the amount of factors to control for (light, water, humidity, nutrients, soil quality...). I had this one last surviving plant from my last attempt at being a #plantmom. I bought her a new pot, new soil, moved her to where she’d get more than enough sunlight, watered her weekly, and then at some point realized she was dying and she’s now dead (the roots had completely died). I don’t think I was over-watering and my suspicion is that the soil I bought was infested with something and that really discouraged me. I clipped off some of the tiny salvageable pieces of the plant and have had them in water for about 2 months and most of them are thriving! But now I’m scared to put them in soil and have them die 😩 I don’t have access to LECA here in Mozambique so if anyone has tips for aspiring plant moms in the Southern Hemisphere, I’d love to hear them!
@meikahidenori

Leca is basically balls of baked clay. You can try using stones of pebbles, the key is to make sure the plant has access to water. I mean you can just continue to grow in water without leca and add fertiliser (ones specific for hyro plants) and they should be just fine with water changes every so often.
