Great video. I drove an s14 with just these mods learning to drift. Was a perfect amount to help with not spinning and getting frustrated but also not a super fancy lock kit that made me rely on lock to save me. 10/10 on how to do everything step by step too ✌

Good idea on the spacers. However, when removing and insalling the inner tie-rod, we have to use a counter wrench on the steering rack to prevent possible damage.
@samjc51974 жыл бұрын
don't be shy hitting the knuckle to remove the tie rod end, you need to hit it around 100000x times harder

Nice!! This was actually part 1 of the steering upgrade for the s14. Already have a set of Naoki Nakamura B-Knuckles from Heat Maker (Julian Jacobs) and will be using them with some Maxima Inners (2003 era) and the Tein outers from this video. Gotta figure out what to do about the bump stop on the LCA. But with stock KA it won't matter until I get some more power. Thanks for the comment as always. How do you like the silvermine knuckles?

im in the last steps of a 8 plus month full overhual on my chassis currently, but at first look the quality is there and they say 55 to 60 area depending on set up. So we shall see !!!

So the rack spacers themselves won’t work with stock tie rods? The way you explained it was a little confusing saying it’s the first step and to apply thread locker after but then you said they weren’t long enough?
@seuksavanhvongsipraseuth51533 жыл бұрын
yea, seems like if you want to just run spacer for just few angles gain, BUT if you want more angle, than you need to replace it with an extended one (in this case Tein inner tie rods). Thats what I understand from the video.

Cameron Bonham that's a great idea. Would need to learn how to do it first, however I've looked into what you need to do it at home.

I got longer inner rods, no their too long and can't be adjusted to make proper alignment, should I cut them down ?
@MrJanzu4 жыл бұрын
I jumpped straight to cutting lenght off the tierod connection (4,5cm off) and welding it back, so i only have that, uniball tierod ends, billet offset pieces and it gave me a 48 degree angle... just thinking that i might have a problem without any stoppers on the lower arm. Have you modded the lower arms any longer or just made a stopper to not make it wobbly?? Good video by the way, keep it comming 8)

If you install these spacers to the stock tie rods will it give more angle or do you need adjustable tie rods also for it to give more angle?

i have a question, can more steering angle also help in cornering too?

Lime I don't see why not. If you have quick enough hands it may prevent you from spinning out. It also is nice for u turns and tight parking spaces

@PoptartKingz6 жыл бұрын
yes
@rotaryjunkie95024 жыл бұрын
so you are technically making the tie rod longer with the spacer, cant this be achieved also by extending the outer tierod?
@griplimit3 жыл бұрын
No, the inner tie rod is what stops steering rack travel

@KeepDriftingFun7 жыл бұрын
Good question, rack spacers are also popular on Z Chassis as well. However I haven't done any other platforms than S Chassis. So it would be hard for me to know. Maybe I should get a Z33 350z!?
@thebrowntown13377 жыл бұрын
Daemyon Du Brey well the concepts applys to every car,
@nico1797 жыл бұрын
It applies to most other popular drift cars such as Skylines and JZX's. The thing you have to keep in mind is that lock spacers are not generally good for the steering rack. As such if you put too big a spacer in you can have issues with destroying your steering rack, particularly if you don't run lock stops. Best to do some research on what size spacer people consider safe before installing them on a different chassis.
@PulseyReactz7 жыл бұрын
Probably a dumb question but will these same methods work for a 300zx? I've been trying to find ways to get more angle out of mine.
@KeepDriftingFun7 жыл бұрын
I feel like most cars this will work - I've never worked on z32, but it does work on the Z33. someone else commented this below and it applies here "Best to do some research on what size spacer people consider safe before installing them on a different chassis." a couple quick searches should give you the answer! Thanks for the comment and good luck with the angle hunt.

so... those spacers shouldnt do jack on stock suspension cause the bump stop is what prevents steering travel, once the bump stops are removed, then the spacers will add some lock, I've seen 1220* steering wheel turn, but at the cost of overcentering beyond the stock 1080* of steering. With adjustable lower control arms and extended about 30mm longer than stock you will find you hit your overcentering point at the no rack spacer 1080* of lock but instead of the factory 38* of inside wheel cut, you will now have 45*, with eccentric rack bushings you can get that out to about 50*, But due to the HUGE ackerman of the factory knuckles the outside tire before bushing is still 30* and after bushing is about 33* .... And still the inner tie rod spacer remains unused due to bump stops to prevent overcentering and the steering still turns 1080* lock to lock in accordance with that... If you want more lock you will need offset rack spacers or to modify your crossmember to move the rack even farther forward. Cut/custom knuckles with no bump stops can then be used and you can NOW take advantage of the inner tie rod spacer and I've seen 75* of lock with parallel steering, meaning the outside tire is at 75* also, on some heavily modified cars.

Pretty Helpful video, but the prices are too much for us Poor boiz. Rack spacers can be had at Ace Hardware ($0.50, Z32 outer tie rods, with Maxima inners ($30 on rock auto). Shortened Knuckle, take to a local welder shop, tell them remove an inch. ($50 or so depending on who you get). Last thing is Extended LCA’s, which I did myself for $10. Shop possibly like $100. That’s a whole 50-60 degree angle kit under $200.
