Ive got a full rear GKtech setup on my s13 (RUCA, toe arms, and traction arms) and all of them fit without an issue. However, I have SPL front tension rods, so I cant speak on their quality. I agree that the dust boots dont fit snug over the joint, however, once the spacers are installed correctly into the joints, they do form a tight seal and I have no worries of dust or water getting into the joint (which is a sealed teflon bearing itself).

Isis/ISR sure has come a long way, I believe the success of the brand has helped them to improve a lot of there stuff. When I bought my Isis arms years ago it didnt come with no dust boot, idk if its because of it being the lower brand or what (even though I remember the only difference between mine and the "pro" series then was the paint) but now there products seem to be more competitive. good job with the vid man, I had a little higher expectations for pbm but now I think I'll just go isis over them if I want to go cheap.

The PBM rear control arm looks like it has a place for a zerk fitting which I would think they meant for you to keep it greased which would do a good job as long as you conduct maintenance, it was common for this to be on a lot of suspensions in the past, when you apply the grease it pushes all contamination out of the pushing

The word you are looking for is dust boot lol
@TheBrandonWeir8 жыл бұрын
Quality video. Btw with those heim joints you don't actually want grease. If anything, you use a dry lubricant but nothing petroleum based. The only reason those boots are on there for some arms is to "keep some water out". More often than not they just trap a small amount of moisture in and rust the part faster.
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын
+TheBrandonWeir Behind the seals is visible grease. I know cause I checked haha
@TheBrandonWeir8 жыл бұрын
Hmm, those arms must not be teflon coated, unless it's some kind of wax that you were seeing. Mine came dry. Either way, keep an eye on them. I've heard a lot to suggest that grease attracts too much dust and does a number on the seals. But I wouldn't want to run them dry because they'll rust. I've run mine with some dry graphite lubricant and they have a little bit of oxidation on the surface but are functionally fine and have required no maintenance. Interested to see how yours hold up.

I had an issue fitting my GK tech front knuckles on my S13. I had to grind down part of my coilover and put a washer between the caliper and the knuckle in order for everything to fit up properly. Super rad product once I dealt with that BS, but ya know. Installing their front LCA and strut tops soon and can't wait to see what issues I run into with those. But for the price and the function, I can deal with drilling out a hole or grinding something down here and there.

I watched the PBM video and it defiantly isnt a cold weld and you can't tell how hot they have the welder as well as if you over lap the welds the structure is there atleast plenty for the abuse they will see not saying single start and stop welds aren't more structural over all but welding for an extended period of time not stop with such a small piece can cause the part to shrink as well as warp if not on a jig and a jig wouldn't be possible with a continuous weld like that

very informative video. Did you think PBM's fail point/crumple zone was the actual welds? It would make sense why they use such over built tubing. Keeps the arms from flexing but when its their time to break they go at the welds. So they never loose any structural rigidity by building in a fail point
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын
+dick mac Nope it's not. Otherwise those welds would have been seen on the toe arm which are the most common ones that are broken during drifting. There weren't consistent with their rod ends or welding between arms so I feel like it's more of just them doing whatever for whatever reasoning they have. However that was definitely not built to be a crumple zone.
@iBLOODBATHproduction8 жыл бұрын
***** whether or not it was a built in crumple zone, I can almost promise that it would go before the pick up point on the sub frame... Then if you wanted to run those arms just plate the pick up points like what most FD cars have already done. PBM has some flaws in their products but they are not a company that under thinks anything. And for the actual driving part I could only imagine the ISR arms would flex a whole hell of alot more. And in big power drift cars that means the alignment will be scrambled under load. And by saying a product is not good cause it doesn't have a crumple zone, which i agree with to an extent, then wise fab is bad.. Ive seen wise fab rib pick up points clean off front sub frames... Its all a double edged sword. Just pick which end you want cause there really isn't getting both in a suspension set up

For the ignorant - is there any reason to buy the angled versions of the arms if you aren't planning on going for any crazy lock knuckle kits? Or would you just stick with the non-angled versions?
@moggys138 жыл бұрын
gk teck has been shafting customers for years. greg isn't very respected here in the Australian drift comunity. he is very quick to shift blame when his parts brake. and they do brake a fair bit. he has some good ideas its just a shame that he cuts alot of corners on the production side of things
@j0nat0n8o88 жыл бұрын
you make a really good point, pbm is quality but I think they are focused more on pro/pro-am platforms. there stuff is beefy because aren't they made of chromoly tubing and if you think about the FD circuit they are running 800+HP cars with massive amounts of torque. those chasis are already reinforced to prevent it from ripping itself apart with the massive amount of power. I like ISR because there more affordable and I think more for street/the average joe. but try do a comparison between other ebay parts like godspeed with the arms and ISR. I think they are pretty similar. just one is supported by enjuku and the other is just known as ebay...idk, to each there own!
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын

After this was recorded, I assume you immediately passed out and slept for 4-5 days. That was a 45 minute video done in 20 minutes.
@edwin50278 жыл бұрын
I like the video but I disagree with several things: 1.I have PBM RUCAs and Toe Arms both have rubber boots covering the spherical bearing, maybe call PBM. 2.I have to disagree with the overbuilt part that it will destroy your subframe. Chances are you are still using your OEM RLCA which will be the weak point as all the stock 240 arms are stamped metal. E.G reason why most people who extend FLCAs chose not to box them. Never should you want your arms to be the weakest point beside the LCA, why would you if you already paid so much for them. 3.ISR does not have more clearance. PBM arms are engineered with the car sitting on the floor without coilovers, pretty much as low as possible to make sure there is no clearance issues. Only time PBM had clearance issues was with the Gen 1 RUCAs which their "loop" wasn't wide enough and would hit TEIN coilovers only as the are pretty beefy. These are Gen 3. 4.The weight issue, they are heavier than the rest since they use 1.5 DOM tubing just like SPL. ISR uses cheap metal and bearings they get their stuff from WindFlower which makes Godspeed,Megan, etc (other china companies) The extra weight is really negligible, it will not mess with handling. I think you are confusing unsprung weight with sprung weight. Unsprung weight is mass moving when the engine turns/runs example: driveshaft, axles, rotors. You'd have a more drastic change with wheels example: OEM wheels vs XXR wheels (known heavy rep wheels) Overall like the video just don't want some misinformation being spread to people just learning this. If you like running ISR on your car that's fine but it's been proven many times that SPL,PBM/PSM,Battle Version are quality by the Schassis community
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Ed Win 1. These arms were just bought a few months ago and came with no boot. If you look at their website there is also no boot on the rod end: store.partsshopmax.com/shop/silvia/MultilinkSteering/RUCA.html 2. A weakpoint of just the lower control arm isn't enough. If you wall tap and just the back few inches of your wheel touch all the load gets transferred to your toe arm. The lower control arm has the pivot point being the ball joint that would allow for this to happen. 3. It does have more clearance. It doesn't matter if the clearance it usable or not, but it is a fact that it does have more clearance. 4. Exactly, they are using FD spec roll cage material on what should be your crumple zone. You have the wrong definition for unpsrung weight. Unsprung weight is: "In a ground vehicle with a suspension, the unsprung weight (or theunsprung mass) is the mass of the suspension, wheels or tracks (as applicable), and other components directly connected to them, rather than supported by the suspension." So yes, that includes all suspension components such as arms. Glad I could clear up the misinformation you stated :)
@blahhhhh4308 жыл бұрын
+OffBeat Garage took me "an hour tops" to understand this
@edwin50278 жыл бұрын
+OffBeat Garage Your straw man argument didn't clear up anything. 1. Your experience with PBM is purely anecdotal, I suggest reading up on some forum posts and contact PBM to see that the arms do not come as you stated.I said contact PBM to make sure they send you a rubber boot. Saying you bought it months ago doesn't mean they don't come with any. Here's a picture of how i got mine over a year ago dust boots and paint even on the inside where it bolts on. i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/DJPimpFlex/28ae0c58.jpg 2. The pivot point is not just the ball joint but also the other two connected to the subframe. This isn't uncharted territory many threads about how the first thing to give in the rear is the RLCA all you have to do is just search and read. examples found: Stock arms and the only thing to give RLCA i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q624/fair26in/cf2c4da1.jpg Parts Shop Max arms and Eccentric Lock out kit i.imgur.com/Yg1OxZM.jpg imgur.com/a/uwPes only RLCA gives 3. Of course it matters if the clearance is usable or not when talking about giving something an advantage. You can't give an advantage where one does not have it. Both arms with the frame literally on the floor none will hit anything,none have the advantage since the clearance is enough or more than. 4. I admit I am wrong and suspension arms are included in unsprung weight, but I still stand that the weight is a very negligible amount considering you get a stronger better quality arm.
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын
Lol youtube arguments
@OffBeatGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Ed Win This is the last time I'll be making a comment here because anything more at this point is the equivalent of talking to a wall. The new arms do not come with a boot. The older version, which you have, may have come with a boot, but the most recent version that is currently for sale does not come with a boot period. I have multiple friends bend stock toe arms along with stock rlca. They usually both go hand in hand but it all depends on the impact and there is no one example for all impacts which is why each stock arm is a failure point to prevent subframe damage in all unforeseen circumstances. Hence why aftermarket arms need to maintain this characteristic. Unsprung weight has the largest impact on your car's handling. To say it's negligible is just an ignorant statement that shows your lack of knowledge. But besides those issues let's get into the rest of their arms. There's no excuse for the poor paint coverage on the arms. And if you think it was just our arms with this flaw, you would also be wrong. Every RUCA I've seen, even the ones displayed at FD aren't coated there. That is unacceptable. Additionally their locking mechanism is completely unnecessary and makes adjusting the arm a nightmare. If you are in a racing environment and constantly make changes to your alignment you would realize that this is a major flaw. Overall PBM has a lack of thought put into their products. Just taking the most of everything and slapping it together without actually putting any engineering insight into the arm. Then cover it up with some gold and copper looking stuff to look pretty to match their pretty welds, which similar to their arms, are form based rather than function based. Additionally you can tell the poor work they do by looking at the roll cages they fabricate for people. Some of the worst fitting cages I've seen and all with stitch welded base plates which is absolutely unacceptable. No racing organization would let that type of work pass tech whatsoever. But anyways, enjoy running the overweight, overbuilt, overly complicated, overpriced, underengineered arms of PBM. End discussion/ PS. the PBM arms in this video are for sale if you want to buy them. We're switching to all ISR.
