I’m having difficulty. After washing the indoor brick and applying as instructed I’m getting yellow orange bleed through that looks a lot like nicotine maybe. It seems to eventually cover it but with four or five coats and I have a lot more to do. What should I do before proceeding? Is there anything besides water to wash the brick. I’m using masonry flat for the solid white look.

Our recommended dilution rate for Classico Limewash is 50%. Measure the amount of Limewash you plan to use and then add half of the same amount in water!

Do you need to seal this in order to clean it? I’m thinking about soot from wood burning fireplace?

Our apologies for the late response! Sealers are not required for our Classico Limewash, however, you could apply our Mineral Shield to help protect the surface. It is a protective barrier that doesn't have a sheen and may help!

Will it stain asphalt shingles when it is distressed/sprayed off, on a large scale?

Andrew, Classico Limewash will stain asphalt shingles if the paint is not removed immediately. You can use boric acid or muriatic acid to remove tougher stains.

Thanks for the reply, just to be clear. If you are distressing/washing with water (hose or such ), the lime wash could stain the roof? Should I cover the roof or would the hose water be enough to wash and and keep from staining. thanks for your help

@@arambo1628 If you are immediately distressing the area in which you have just lime washed, its best to wash the roof off at that time with a water hose or pressure washer.

I'm not sure I understand. Couldn't you use just about any regular paint, watered down? Chalk paint? Or even any kind of mud type sheetrock stuff. Just curious.

Yes, I believe so. We mixed white paint with water -- same effect. Less expensive.

We white washed our fireplace, plank wall and ceiling with half paint, half water. If I understand, with the lime wash you can easily distress it so some of the original brick shows. With white wash you can't remove it as easily. Which is why this time I am going to try the lime wash instead if whitewash. I want to have a longer time to "play" with it. As far as I can tell, that's the biggest difference.

Yes and in three years you will have a faded peeling fireplace. This stuff lasts 20 years. No comparison to paint.

That is a great question. The biggest issue to think about is the breathability of the brick. It’s important to allow the brick to breathe, wicking moisture away from the house. When you use acrylic or latex based paints, those stop that process. However, our Classico Limewash is a specially formulated mineral based paint that calcifies to the brick, but still allows for the brick to breathe. And with mineral based paints, you have the ability to create a beautiful weathered patina!

Good question, sorry for the late reply but dilution means you add water to the paint. The % is the amount of water vs paint that you add so for 1L of paint 50% of it would be 500mL of water or 100% would be 1L of water so 1:1 of water to paint.

Limewash is the process of using a slaked lime-based mineral paint on a masonry or wood surface, and either thinning it out with water so that the coating is literally washed on like a semi-transparent coating. Whereas whitewash is a term used when trying to achieve the Limewash affect with any old white ‘paint’ mixed with water. It became popular with the advent of acrylic paints where painters would choose that cheap route versus authentic Limewash to save money.

You get a better look, a chalky finish with lime wash and the bricks can breath. Chalk paints are basically emulsion. a cheaper alternative. It can't however be used on what we call in England, Engineering brick as this is smooth and shiny and non porous,

That's a great question! Our product can easily last 15 years or more, but will deteriorate eventually over time to create a beautiful, antiqued patina.

That's a great question! And yes, this can be applied to an indoor fireplace very easily using the same techniques. A spray bottle works great to dampen the bricks before applying our Classico Limewash.
