Nice overview, glad it worked for you. I have been trying to get rid of ick without medication for over a month. Tried temp increase + garlic + food for immune system support that contains garlic. The ick would go away, I would keep the temperature up for a week, but as soon as I would lower the temperature down, the ick would come back. I have tried medication the first time and it killed my fish. Later, I have been successful with treating ick with lower dose of medication and have also uploaded some videos of the process. Usually scaleless fish are the ones that die, guppies, swordtails, etc tend to be just fine with meds or temperature increase. I think the best thing to do is to leave scaleless fish, shrimp, plants, etc and move hardy fish to a different aquarium and treat them separately. Also, I moved fish to a smaller fish tank when I did the treatment to use less medication.

Smart idea, a small tank would save a lot. Maybe keeping the temperature high for a month after, the ich should be dead. I still have it raised after a month, and I'll keep it for a few more weeks, and if it comes back, will update you on it. But glad you could kill it, and thanks for watching. I hope you're having a great day, man!

I dealt with Ich once and it was terrible. My tip on garlic is to boil some crushed up garlic and drop some of the garlic juice on the fish food before feeding. They seem to have no problems eating the fish food, plus my room didn’t smell like garlic 🙂

@@mich421 I’ve tried the garlic in my tank and it stunk up my room for weeks 😕 I chopped up the garlic, boiled a little bit of water, and added the garlic for 10-15 seconds. I used the garlic oil/water on my fish pellets and really let it soak in before feeding my fishes. Also make sure to turn the tank temperature heat up. That’s what I did every time I’ve had ich (which is rare) and honestly it has been quite successful 🙂

Good video Lazarus…. We learned a very long time ago to run our tanks hot…. Due to the water in our area we are very susceptible to it so we titrate all our fish up and keep them that way all the time…. Therefore we simply never get it ever…. It really does work well😀😀👍👍

NO! That's horrible. No need to panic, and I'm sure you'll find one of these methods in handy. If you have live plants in the tank, don't use method one (Aquarium Salt), and if you have scaleless fish (e.g. Pleco) then don't use method 2 (treatments - because they have copper in it which is bad for scaleless fish) but method 3 and it's alternative will be fine for any situation you're in, just make sure you have plenty of aeration when raising the temperature (add an extra air pump if you need to) and try keep it above 30 degrees celsius (86 degrees Faranheit). Thank you for watching, mate, and make sure to act fast so it'll die quicker! Have a great day and best of luck! Be sure to keep me updated on how it goes, too, if you like. 👍

I've recently noticed ich on my baby guppies and decided to treat them with the 4th way, but I'm afraid that the guppies might die because of the high temperature what should I do ?
@Lazarusthefishboy
@Lazarusthefishboy Жыл бұрын
Are we talking like newborn to a month old fry? I've raised fry from the beginning in 28 degree water before, don't see why 2 degrees hotter won't hurt. When baby fish are developing, they react same way as ich does. They're growth is sped up (not dangerously if it's only for a couple weeks to a month). People even raise the temperature to this extreme number so their baby guppies mature quicker for breeding purposes. So to answer your question, yes, you can raise the temp up to 29-30 celsius, and MOST should survive as long as there's no other problems. Good luck mate!

Yes bump the temperature slowly to 31, and make sure you have plenty of surface agitation. An extra air pump will work. Give it up to a couple weeks and all ich should be gone. Make sure when turning the temperature up you just turn the heater one degree up per hour to reduce stress for the fish. Good luck!

ICK usually lives in the gravel , so I have an undergravel filter and a hangover filter joint together, when I do water change every week I take my hangover filter out from the tank before anything, then clean the filter and drain the water from the hangover filter and after putting everything back ,fill it with your fishtank water, then put garlic powder in the hangover filter, that way the water that comes from under the gravel will go to the garlic first then it gets filter to the fishtank.
@Lazarusthefishboy
@Lazarusthefishboy 2 жыл бұрын
Ick or ich, ich makes more sense imo, as its scientific name is Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. But you can use either way. Love the idea with the undergravel filter and hang-on-back filter! Never thought of that one mate! It'd work like a charm for sure. Do you use it as a preventative, or just when you spot ich in your tank? Thanks for watching Julio! Have a good one! 😄

@Lazarusthefishboy
@Lazarusthefishboy Жыл бұрын
No, just slowly raise the temperature to around 28 degrees celsius and make sure there's plenty of oxygen in the water (meaning water movement). Any of these methods though ensure they don't just get it off the fish, but kill it as well, the heat one is just what's worked for me before. Good luck T Shhh and let me know how you go!

@Lazarusthefishboy
@Lazarusthefishboy 5 ай бұрын
Ich by the time it’s sticking to the glass and ornaments is not visible to the human eye. Make sure it isn’t just grains of salt or fine bubbles from the filter or air pump, or maybe grains of sand. The salt should be plenty for now since it prolly isn’t even ich or a disease at all, but just in case leave the betta in the quarantine tank for a week longer and if she shows no signs of ich, place her back into the main tank and continue keeping a close eye on her behaviour for another week.

Fair enough! While you're doing that, it will kill the ich faster if you raise the temp as well to about 28 degrees, just make sure there's plenty of surface movement for oxygen exchange. Add an airstone or more flow along the surface, and all the ich should be dead within a week or two. After 2.5 weeks, lower the temperature back down to normal and do a 75% water change with normal, non-salty water. Good luck Keahi and hope this parasite gets killed before it can do harm to your fish! Let me know if you have any questions and how it all goes! 👍

@@Lazarusthefishboy Thank your for your helping words. Since I have plants i opted out the salt method. Instead I took the fish out from the tank and separated the younglings from the grown ones. Only two babies showed spots and all acted healthy, the grown ones had around 5-6 spots each. I put them in two separate 5l tanks and dosed Malchite green and did full water changes every 24h. As for food i boiled some garlic in 30ml of water and marinated the drie food in garlic juice. After it dried back i gave it to the fish. In the tank I cranked up the heat to 29°C and dosed Malchite green and did a 20% water change on the second day. Today is the 4th day of the treatment. Only the grown ones show 1-2 spots. I will come back with updates.

@@Lazarusthefishboy Update! After the 5th day I did not see any spots on them but I kept the treatment on for 3 more days. On the 6th day I changed around 30% of the water from the main aquarium. Be aware with the planted tank, my plants got affected and lost a few leaves maybe from the heat or the Malachite green. Maybe it was some coincidence but now they started to recover and grow new sprouts. So in short my fsh after 7-8 days of treatment they all recovered and now all look healthy.

There's nothing you could've done to save them at that point. Just keep dosing the tank following their instructions. Also search up some reviews on it too before you start using it heavily, as I haven't used this personally and don't know much about it.
