Hi Tonia, I am so happy to hear this video was helpful! Be sure to subscribe as there will be new videos each week going into each of the branching methods. Make sure your plant is getting enough light and is right up next to the window. Ensure the water is going down into the soil, and not immediately draining out the bottom drainage holes. Light, water, drainage are the keys to keeping your plant healthy. Happy Growing!

My flfig lost most of its branches and looked dead. I took off the dead/dying leaves and gave up on it. Now it has smaller lush leaves at the bottom. The entire plant is about 15 inches tall. Watching your videos has given me hope that it might still be ok. Should I just cut the top off?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant4 ай бұрын
I am so glad to hear your plant is recovering! Yes, you can cut the top at the point where you want more branches and leaves to grow. For more support, please join our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! Fiddleleaffigplant.com/community

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thank you so much for replying. I really hate to give up on plants. So many of them end up coming back! He’s about to leave the front porch and come inside for winter so I will trim him before he does!

When i bought my FF it had two branches one taller than the other. The smaller one has not grown since I've had it. How do I get that branch to wake up. The branch that's dormant is about a foot long and has 8 leaves. The main branch is now over 5 ft tall and the small one still a foot.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant2 жыл бұрын
With the small one, you can prune it back to where sap comes out and new branches will occur just below that part. Or you can attempt to notch the bare branch to encourage new growth as well.

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Prune it you mean cut the top off the small branch or cut into the bark? How much should I cut off :/

When should branching be started? I have a clipping from my dads FLF that has been shooting out new growth like crazy. But I want to make sure it grows looking like a tree and not just a leafy stick like my dads 😂

Branching is best done in the sunnier spring and summer months! Pruning or notching can be used to promote new branches to grow. Happy Growing!

Notching is not as successful as pruning. Did the notch create a deep enough injury to draw sap? I would recommend trying again. Happy Growing!

My plant is getting new leaves . Bottom half of all the leaves are all facing down. I watered it and fed it. Should i repot it? Not losing any leaves.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question, Maria! It is natural for bottom, older leaves to naturally droop over time. That is just the progression of the leaves. It sounds like you are caring for your plant very well!

1. Are there dangers to notching? I have two plants in my pot and neither have any branches. I am worried about killing the stalks/trunks and loosing all the growth above. 2. Do you have to use hormone treatment on the notches or can it be successful with out it?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant2 жыл бұрын
Great questions! The only hesitation with notching may be if you notch too deep and prune the plant instead. But as for notching, it does not harm the plant in any way. It creates an injury to disrupt the flow of dormant leaf buds so branching can occur just below the notched area. Hormone treatment is not necessary but can aid in the quicker process of branching out.

What diameter should the stalk be to notch the FLF? ETA: Also, can I notch and fertilize in the winter months?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The branch should be woody and covered in bark. A young plant with green stems will not be able to be notched, pinching is the best method for younger plants. Notching and fertilizing can be done in the winter months if your indoor conditions are consistent year round. If your plant is actively growing, fertilizing can help your plant take in the nutrients it needs to sustain the new growth. What if your fig has branches in good places but no leaves all of my leaves are sprouting from the top of the plant and not the branches.....he's like a Grut stick figure with a big bushy head
@FiddleLeafFigPlant2 жыл бұрын
Some owners like that look of a trunk and tree like shape on top. You can notch below the bushier top to create branching on the bare stem. That will help fill out your plant.
