I am a self-taught piano player, been playing 12 years, following Pianote for past couple years. Cannot say enough how impressed I am with Lisa Witts teaching ability & methods. She presents numerous techniques & topics, in a way that doesn’t intimidate you. She inspires me to practice more so I can be a better player. How great a teacher is that??? 👏👏

Thank you for these videos. I’m 56 and knew nothing of a piano. In a weeks time your beginner videos has taught me so much. Not up to playing a song yet, but I’ll get there soon. Lol. Thanks again and I highly recommend your video to all beginners.

I'm leaving a comment now because I can't get through this video. It's awesome. Had to pause a couple times in the first sections, then stopped totally @6:50 to play around with that for 20 minutes. Then I watched to @8:10 and paused AGAIN to fiddle around. I love these chords and arpeggios! Perfect level for me! Awesome video! Sounds so good!

Hi, I'm an independent recording artist, and I'm a self-taught pianist who has been playing since I was 11. I heard that piano riff from Coldplay's "Clocks" in a supermarket on day and went nuts because it's so crazy beautiful. I couldn't calm down until I went home and started playing it myself. BTW, you have a nice teaching style.

Excellent video. I am a hobby guitarist and subscribed to Pianote a few days ago. So far I like the "method". It starts a little bit different compared to a traditional piano method but it seems to be really good. You learn how to relax your hands and prepare your muscles for the piano first by doing a few simple but very effective exercises. Then you start playing chords and this helps to develop hand independance and keyboard "orientation". Playing melodies comes later. Lisa is a very friendly and capable host. I am enjoying the course so far and hope I will continue to progress. I can recommend the website for total beginners but also for musicians who already play another instrument than piano or people who gave up in the past and want to return to the piano. Unlike traditional piano methods you don't start with boring or "cheesy" pieces.

Lovely! I am an advanced piano player (so maybe not your usual subscriber) but have begun composing my own songs. Which is a very different thing than simply playing the piano well! I really appreciate your take on playing around, playing by ear, and doing slightly unexpected things with chords. It has inspired me to hear piano differently in my mind. I can't wait to develop my new ideas. Thanks!

Same story, I always thought i had a good ear and thought that having been a classically trained musician/composer, I had some kind of special advantage or something... But then totally realized that there were phenomenally great musicians that had so much more musical and creative freedom than I did because they were able to leverage their understanding of jazz and pop to gain an intuitive and practical application of music theory. I had a teacher once say something like "at the end of the day, if it doesn't sound good, the notes on the page don't matter."

OMG OMG OMG! WHERE were you years ago? Thank you so much for putting out this video! I used to be a mediocre organ player and now since I no longer have my organ, I'm trying to pick up keyboard in general which is piano. I NEVER know about arpeggios and have always seen and heard them and wondered about them. No instructor I ever had showed me what you have in 6 minutes and could have made a world of difference in my playing the organ or keyboard in general. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm past the midnight chime and trying to relearn again and it's so much harder at my age to get it back and you have given me a little ray of sunlight to give me a great boost to want to play more. I want my granddaughters to know a bit how to play. I am trying to teach what I know, but your video here helps me to learn more and show the kids more.

Great lesson thanks , can y’all do a lesson on chord voicings that sound great in pop songs - I’ll often listen to a pop song or country song and there’s simple piano in the background (like just chords) but they don’t sound like your normal triads …. “Ceilings” by Lizzy McAlpine is a great example of what I mean …. Hope that makes sense
