Merci, a very timely video. I decided to get serious with my piano agenda, and this week I planned out the next 12 days of practice. One key a day. I start out with modes, but do them in the order: Lydian, Ionian, Mixolidian, Dorian, Aeolian, (Harmonic and Melodic), Phrygian and Lochrian. Then I'm doing arpeggios since I've tended to ignore them. I'm practicing the Rule of the Octave which I do on the Tonic, the third and fifth in the key of the day, but I also do one in the Circle of Fifths. I do the circle of fifths progression in the key of the day. I finish with sightreading. You are the inspiration for me to buy a piano last year at 65 yoa, and I'm forever grateful to you, Jason. Again, merci.

No! He did not! Do you know why he adds the root to the next octave? You do not know! I have to think really hard to get it. He is nuts, trying to play magic in front of students (to sell or simply bad personality?). Adding the root is to make the fingering easier/possible, and it does not affect the chords (since it is “just” reaping the root). You see, he did explain it. So condescending, disgusting - if you do a video like this, you are obliged to explain!

Thankfully subbed to your channel a good while ago, this was the video I was waiting. Could have been my bad googling for two octave arpeggios and fingering for it, as I couldn't really find anything even close to this clear. Or already forgot that I found something. Even I guess I knew how to transfer to second octave, I always doubted myself, but no more doubts. And this really is for right hand, left hand for some reason especially when coming from low to high notes has been always clear. Or I just learnt them by accident when banging my head against the wall when learning 'To Zanarkand' which is heavy on left hand add9 chord arpeggios. Thanks Jazer

Great video. Learning is high on the level. Definitely gives me new approaches to improving my fingering. Sorry, I’m a beginner. 60 years I’ve tortured trying to play, never understanding “circle of 5s” open my eyes, now i have so many scales.. doing scales never left Cmaj. Taking it to the next level, the fingering changes. Omg. Doing multiple octaves…absolutely, but it all comes to your hands on the piano linking to something between the ears. I’ve seen several of your videos, and felt inspired to hit the piano, but now i have something new to try. The next step is to watch your video again to get the fingering, documented… so i can refer while at the piano. Ie quick study guide lol. Through repetition I’ll get it. Thanks. do more vids lol.

For extra challenge, I like lifting my fingers as little as possible. It's to help sustain notes without the pedal. And actually, you can hear an obvious difference with it on low-polyphony keyboards. The notes on my PSR-90 cut out very quick if the pedal is doing the heavy lifting.

There's a lot of wrist rotation going at slow speeds when you first demo level 2, but that's probably necessary for the demo, eh? The question is how do you deal with the problem of mixing lego and non-legato notes? That is, you can still be playing D when you start to play F#. That's legato. The same thing occurs going from F# to A. But when you go from A to D above, you have to move your hand, which means you release the A relatively early compared to the earlier notes. That's non-legato. Any thoughts? (BTW, this comment was really hard to type after studying your video. I think my mind had switched my hands over to "piano playing mode". Going back to "typing mode" was weird.)

A chord is where you play all the notes at the same time. For an arpeggio, you break up the chord and play the notes separately.

I think these coordination exercises should be a required course in elementary schools every where, just for the brain work at an early age. I’m right handed, after doing these exercises I realize my left arm and hand has pretty much been a useless appendage my whole life. The worst part about it is people offered to teach me these things. They should have forced me to do it.

It is basically one thing: to do arpeggios, you have to play it back. To do it musically, must add the root to the last. That is it. Everything else is just disgustingly showing off to your students- it is disgusting, because it is not fair. I will watch your stuff once for a while, but I know, you are not a nice person. You play people. 😢
