I love the way exercising compliments my skateboarding and I wanted to share a few exercises I do before a session sometimes. There is also a short before work session too.

I find it very helpful to do a dynamic warm up before i skate. So squats, skips. Mario jumps. High knees. Butt kickers. Then after i skate I like to do static stretches as a cool down. I avoid doing static stretches before skating because it can cause injuries and less force production
@jasonsmith3400
@jasonsmith3400 Жыл бұрын
This is a really important comment, even 3 years later. Static stretches should be done in a cool-down phase AFTER a workout (skateboarding included). Doing them before is a great way to injure yourself.

@@jasonsmith3400 I did static stretches the other day before skating, my timing for tricks was so off and caught like 3 shinners in the session so I guess it is bad LOL

I am on the same boat as you. Retaking skateboarding has actually helped me get fitter. Now to actually keep up with my body, I find mysefl doing calisthenics and doing leg weights at the gym. May I ask you, how do you find time to go out as much as possible and still keep up with other responsibilities.

@@sebastiancastro8111 . Hi. first of all i dont have kids. i go skate twice a week especially on weekends off work. i love and still improving despite the pain in my body. and yeah its a challenge being now 48 and still doing street skate tricks. i almost consume my role energy and try to rest at the job kkkkkk i use to work sit in front of the computer for hours. you got love and have some goals.... i ll retire only when i do my first handrail! and the risks we assume doing this is a mix of practice, talent, love, persistence, desperate, you know.... i ve comented in others Ben s videos.... hope you keep skating but of course its hard to work seriously e be commited to skate. at last i ve promissed i would come back here to scream the world i ve made it! Man, i'm just a 26 year old brazilian guy. I know i'm still slightly far from calling me an old man. I was completely off of skateboarding for about three yars and it's been over a month that i set up a brand new skate and made a comeback. I've already learnd stuff i never did in the past (dropping in, bs boardslide on a rail, and many other tricks i've never landed before. I'm really pushing my limits now). I just wanna say that it doesn't matter if your channel's got no one million subscribers, your content is really relevant, straightforward, i can see you put so much love into doing it and you've got so many other things to do asides it. You speak and explain things so damn well too and you seem to be a very humble guy. Your videos have been inspiring me a lot to go out again and learn, improve and (of course) have fun. Thank you, man!! I'll certainly be keeping up with you here on KZbin. Keep it up!!!

After finally getting a board again and trying to skate again after 14 years, my mental block is so hectic. In my head i know exactly what to do, where to have my feet the motions of tricks etc however my fear of falling/hurting myself is greatly hindering any form of progress. I know i would have dealt with all this fear when i first started, its just so frustrating having to deal with this again after such a long time. Great channel.

I've noticed you're allowing your sense of humor shine through a little more lately, and i.m.o it's enriched your videos quite a bit. Not that they needed it, but they're slightly more flavorful. Regarding pre-skate routine: Have you tried any of the muscle rollers? IF SO: Do you think they're worth buying for someone who already has a rigorous stretch routine?

Fast twitch muscles get activated by heavy lifts. Still I don’t know exactly what muscles would be optimal for skating because it feels like it’s more of a ”feel” thing. What I see a lot of older skateboarders struggle with is mobility. I actually think 1 or 2 yoga sessions a week could actually help with keeping joints and the muscles more mobile at a older age. With that said, thank you for a great and inspiring channel.

my case was the oposite, i started to need more hours of skating than leg workout, so i slowly started to drop the leg day and skate more, and it worked at least for me, still have to stretch ofter though, and i can skate about 13 days 4/6 hours per day and get sore the 14th day. diet and water have a lot to do in that but also spacing more between tricks.

Good old Van weather... rain and rain 😄 By the way, I do squats, pistol squats, jumping jacks, box jumps, etc. for my legs. For my core, I do 5 to 7 minutes of core exercises at home. The upper part of my body, I do pull ups, chin ups, Austrian pull ups and chin ups, etc. In the last 3 months I started doing basic calisthenics at least 4 days a week depending on the weather. It really has helped me slim down and strengthen my overall body. I highly recommend it.

Hi Ben, I’ve been skating for 18 years and recently turned 31. I’ve never stopped skating, except for when I’ve been injured, and try to skate at least 2-3 times a week... as time goes by I find myself getting more and more fearful of trying tricks and even experience mental blocks which prevent me from even starting to try a trick. Do you ever experience this? If so, how do you combat it? Cheers

If you want to increase pop, balance and strength, do heavy squats for pop, hit your hamstrings hard with romanian deadlifts. That will help with scooping your deck...I have 540 flips easily because my hamstrings are strong...then hit your calves hard and that will help with your control overall. You'll be able to stop using your quads for all your skating...when you have strong calves is when your board control goes through to roof
