I have thousands of pounds of specialist VW workshop tools and I agree with you, people have to pay for both your knowledge and your tools. If not take it somewhere else, pay twice as much having the parts cannon fired at it and still not have it fixed. Or pay my asking price, get it done quickly, and correctly. I do like that air hammer, never had to use more than the factory slide hammer to remove injectors, but then the cars were still less than five years old so not as badly corroded.

Great indeph video mate,'and them tools for removing the injector and washers are unreal,'i think the injector tool works so good as it keeps the injector so central with no room for movement in the injector and head,its almost like putting bearings in and knocking them in with a hammer and they go of course instead of using a right sized socket or the right tool.👍
@gordyl924711 күн бұрын
You absolutely have to recoup the cost of tools, gradually for general tools and even to cover the cost or hire of specialist tools for a job you may only ever use a few times.

While the injectors are out and before the rocker cover was put back it might have been worth putting some grease in the holes the injectors fit in to, that way there is more of a chance that at least a bit of grease will not be removed by the seals.

Hi, in your Landrover freelander 1 Td4 video, how did you remove a seized injector? I'm in this boat.
@TheMopar5917 күн бұрын
One broken bolt or seized injector can make a one hour job become a three day ordeal and that's a fact. Yes you have to pass the cost for any specialist tools to the customers, otherwise we all become busy fools.Oh and thanks for the tip about the parrot nose vice grips, they are awesome for removing roll bar links.

Your right to charge to do a dyonostic. They won't pay for parts or breakdown or new ones. And that's for all tools. Your rate aswell. And everything thing else. They know this but don't want to pay for it. Mike

Hi, Leon... If people complain at my Pricing for use of tools etc. All i say is, Tthe Cost Of them buying the tools is .... And let them know the cost of the tool..... That normally shuts them up Complaining .. as they would have to Buy the tools to get the Job done for Themselves.. Normallly adding Thousands Of Pounds to the Job that they are getting done for a Few Hundred pounds ... Keep up the Good work ... Tools cost loads O Money, therefore to use them costs money... :) :)

Tally up the cost of every chemical, material, tool used. Basically, the complete, overall cost to someone who doesn't already have ANY tools, materials, or chemicals. Take that total and multiply it by demand, and need, then subtract availability.If your rate comes in lower, it's to their advantage! Right?

There must be more than 1 design for the clamps or it could of been to do with it having a different brand of injector 2 and 3 were stuck solid 1 came up easy and with a little jiggling the clamp came out and the mm of wiggle let me get 4 out with 2 and 3 even with the ability to turn them getting them moving took a lot of effort.

Also on the same job I used a cleaning kit with the nipples you put in with a threaded bar to stop the junk falling into the cylinder I've used them before they are pretty good but this time when I used the air after brushing it the nipple came flying out and disappeared and with the rocker cover off it was extra stress I did eventually find it lesson learnt put the rod back in before blowing the crud out.

You need to off set the cost of your tools so yeah 100% you should charge accordingly.. Locksmiths also charge a lot of money for a quickie job 😜 yet people only whinge about car mechanics..

I remember a fella telling me about the 2 litre dCi engine found in the Renault Trafic vans, 2008 model I think. You probably know yourself how difficult they are to remove, the guy said to me they resorted to using a forklift to remove a seized injector and almost ripped the engine right out of the van... Good times

Hateful engines. Dunno why VW felt the need to put a bracket with one poxy bolt to hold down two injectors. I replaced a friends injector and put a brand new bolt from VW on the bracket. It blew out an injector on the motorway when the bolt sheared off under pressure. And yes I did torque it to VW specs. Ended up drilling the remaining bolt out, boring it out larger and helicoiling it to take a more substantial bolt.

For some odd reason people do not complain paying plumber , electrician , applience service man , hvac service .. but paying mechanic for fixing they're car is always problematic 9 times out of 10 and mechanic is always No.1 rip off suspect person from all the service jobs/trades . Friends and family always trying to "slip in" getting something for free ... Mechanic - wondeful hobby , but terrible job .

You shouldnt care what people say and think. Also, if you have the tools to do a job you can charge what you want (within reason) there paying for the time,equipment and expertise. Cheap skates left right and center trying to haggle but i guarantee if you went to there work place and complained about there prices it would be a very different outcome. Weird..
