So much so that even Team Eternal, widely regarded as the best Survivor team in the world, struggled to beat a Skull Merchant with far less hours than any of them.

It’s a bad analogy anyway because Chess which is an actual balanced game deliberately has mechanics in the game to prevent a game not making progress like the 50 move rule and 3 times repetition. This strat does not want to win by checkmate, it wants to win by waiting out an hour and making it impossible for the other side to make progress. This is still not Ok. With a strategy this simple this man made the best team in the entire game, the top 0.001% to struggle(at least up until the midgame) for 55 minutes. There is no way a team with no comms or a passing skill competitive team would ever beat this without a miracle. By "proving" that this strategy is not like chess only proves that this is beyond broken/unfair. It's a situation where in reality everyone loses. Let's also add that this game lasted longer than a drawn out League of Legends game and then some

And they use a perk slot for that perk ( I also forget what it's called ). also that perk has to charge up for a very long time which wouldn't help much on the first few gens, giving skull merchant easy early game pressure. Also that perk charges while working on gens, which not everyone can be doing at all times. It's not a very black and white issue, games are hard to balance. The real problem is that this strategy is clearly still viable and bhvr hasn't even tried to change it.

However, they screwed up the skillchecks BECAUSE they had to pay such close attention to killer movement due to them being oblivious. Essentially, the addon indirectly caused them to miss skillchecks because they had to divert more attention to following the killer's location.

Decided to revisit the video and the not-very-good and not-so-old days of unlimited gen regression events. So glad they changed it. It's actually crazy how long the game lasted. So close, 7 minutes longer and the SM would have won due to the timer. It's even more crazy to think that holding the generators for longer would have beeb perfectly possible if only the player made some better decisions. When all three generators clearly began to gain a lot of progress, the smart thing to do would be to go for an Eruption, all Survivors were injured so it wouldn't have been too time consuming. Even in the video we see opportunities to go after someone who wasn't in a good spot and get Eruption value but the SM decided to kick the gen instead. Especially smart would be to go after Dan and get him out of the match, 3 Survivors would have had much more difficult time breaking the 3 gen in the end. Apparently the player was too focused on the idea of having all 4 Survivors killed by the timer just to prove his point. Overall, good it's already a relic of the past, great video Otz!

skull merchants problem is the status effects inflicted by the drones, primarily the exposure. so a temporary bandaid fix would be to change the status effect (exposure) inflicted to survivors, and i think this would be a helpful change for the time being until she can receive a full on rework.

I've ran into this build 3 times since this video came out. For reference, I only play survivor and usually play solo q, and only play like 4 games a day on avg (some days I play a lot and then there are stretches of days I just don't get to play). This vid came out 7 days since the time of my comment. I've never been the type to DC for no reason, but if this keeps up I might DC whenever I see skull merchant. I applaud the survivors I get for playing as well as they do but it always ends in a 4k in 30-40 mins.

for those wondering, the reason the game ends at 60 minutes is because a while ago, there was an epidemic of blatant cheaters in dbd, and they were putting themselves in the hooked state mid-air which would cause the game to not end after the endgame colapse timer ended for some reason, holding the game (mainly the killer, who was usually a streamer) hostage for up to 2 hours, when the game would naturally close (I don't remember if it was an issue with the game being too long that would cause the server to close after 2 hours or if it was a failsafe they intentionally put in). to combat this, they made it so a game will end after 1 hour, killing any remaining survivors automatically so they aren't rewarded for holding the game hostage and the killer is rewarded if they choose to wait it out. however, this unintentionally gives the Skull Merchant's gen hostage playstyle a solid win condition, which is very unfortunate. I don't think the issue is with the timer, I think the timer should actually be shortened down to maybe 40 minutes or something at least, but Skull Merchant and/or holding 3gens for long periods of time is the issue here and something needs to change drastically. However, with the nature of the game's objective being how it is, no amount of changes will get rid of 3 gens, just as is the case with tunneling, camping, and slugging. It's inherently baked into the design of the game's objectives (which were designed for what's basically a completely different game that the devs need to make work with the very different game dbd has become since the gamemode was designed), and we'll only ever see those things be truly gone if we get a new gamemode with a different objective(s) and win/loss condition(s). this killer player's childish behavior aside, this was good to see and I hope this reminds the community that this is still a problem that needs addressing.

Honestly his childish behaviour was the thing that I hated the most. I would've respected him if he didn't spend 50 minutes mocking the best team in the world and just overall lacking all respect. Many people are applauding him because he's a troll, he's baiting for views and all of that, and I'm aware, but just looking for this match on his stream I saw him slugging, humping, BMing, and just making the game unsufferable for the other players altogether. People praising him for being stupid and disrespectful (some streamers included) is literally the worst part. Then they'll get surprised when someone they made famous actually behaves like a motherfucker and they'll want to cancel on dbdtwt... be for real now.

And I felt the need to comment because as of when this video got up, I’ve been having this problem every day since. Which is not even nearly as bad as what it was before. And I highly doubt behavior will do anything about it.

I’m so happy this happened. Some guy almost beating the best team in the world by jsut walking in circles. Maybe this will make the team finally change skill merchant in a way to make her more of a stalking/chase killer which would be so much more fun

I saw it happen with the a knight player, where all survivors died after 1 hour, I was watching on KZbin. And he was super confused because he had never seen that happen before either.
