The same thing happened to the "godfather of soul" James Brown according to his son. In 1954 James Brown went to the crossroads. There he met a "man" James Browns gave this "man" some shoes he had brought with him. But before he handed them back to James Brown the "man" danced in them and THEN gave them back to James Brown. James Brown put them on and the rest is history. James Brown son said his father told him what he had done to achieve the fame and told his son not to do the same because it wasn't worth it. So " what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul" But REMEMBER THIS IF YOU HAVE SOLD YOUR SOUL, the devil LIES AND SAYS THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. he's LYING. CRY OUT TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND HE ALONE WILL SAVE YOU AND SET YOU FREE FROM the devils CLAIM. AMEN

Very interesting video. When I lived in Cleveland, Ohio I used to go out to hear a man named Robert Lockwood Jr. He'd play in some of the blues clubs. Lockwood Jr is the only person to have learned from Robert Johnson and was considered a step son of his, of sorts. I've spoken with him many times, a very nice & talented musician. Died in 2006 at 91. He's another blues legend.

He's another authentic Delta Blues musician keeping that sound and music alive for us to witness first hand. Got to enjoy these blessings while they are still with us. Thank you, Jordan! I really appreciate you doing these videos. You're showing us a side of Americana that most people will probably never get to see. I do have to let you know that Robert Johnson being a Black man in Mississippi during that era is why an autopsy wasn't done. They simply didn't care. This is very similar to Sam Cooke almost 30 years later when police failed to properly investigate his murder in California.

Jordan, thanx once again, for taking me to the places I probably won't ever visit, but the next best thing is right here at my fingertips. I won't even try to understand 3 graves. the one w/ his very own handwriting is the most touching. Jah was on screen for a half second, and he nearly stole the show. that guy is too cool for school(and too cute to boot).anyway, this winter I got my old YAMAHA re-strung finally, and started teaching myself slide in open E. I sound better than I expected to, while even having the balls to recently try it on my Strat. and RJ has always been an idol of mine. THE ROLLING STONES' 'Love in Vain' cover w/ Mick Taylor is a true testament to this man's brilliance. and 'Terraplane blues' is my personal favorite of his. I remember reading a quote of his. "blues is a disease of the heart." I saw Johnny Shines interviewed a while back, when he made some great common sense, by saying, "you can't buy or sell a soul .so just forget that legend" . y' can't argue w/ common sense. please, Jordan keep up the invaluable work !

Both the touristy and alleged actual Crossroads are on my itinerary (in addition to Deak Harp's shop). I learned a lot about Johnson in my music history classes, saw Jack & Ozzy Osbourne visit the spot, and now I'm finally getting to go see the site for myself 😆

Became aware of Robert Johnson when I purchased the box set of his complete works. The Mississippi Delta is an interesting part of America and until recently was very poor and downtrodden. With the rebirth of the blues every community now has blues clubs and blues themed restaurants. By the way the Eskridge grave was covered in poison ivy so if you come down with a rash that’s why. In any event your trip through Mississippi has made me homesick. Good job

The first cemetery looks like there are not many graves, but it is probably full because back one hundred years ago many people could only afford wood crosses as grave markers. Since wood will rot, the only thing you see is the stone headstones that are left.
