At the Bonnaroo music festival in 2007, I randomly setup my campsite next to Shannon's mom, Nell. She was there camping with a couple Blind Melon fans in their 20s. We spent the whole weekend hanging out. She was SUCH a sweet lady and loved talking about Shannon. ...though even after all those years, she'd still cry when talking about his death. She was battling cancer at the time and a lot of Melon fans were helping to take care of her.

Hi Jordan, so many of these great young talented musicians with the rest of their lives ahead of them have passed far too soon because of drugs, what a shame. Well, at least they have left behind their great music so we can still remember them at their best. Great vlog Jordan.

Awww I met Shannon when I won tix to 120 minutes tour from w.v.u.m., in my hometown of MiaMi. WITH Big Audio Dynamite II , P.I.L., Live, Blind Melon. He told me he was tripping balls on shrooms. He was so nice to me he took me to the t-shirt stand and asked me what do you want? And I said I want the Blind Melon cap. Ans he said to the vendor give the kid a hat. And she said 30 bucks. And he told her look at my pass that's my merchandise your'e selling. And she seemed perplexed. So he grabbed the hat himself and put it on my head. I wish I still had that cap . He was such a nice guy.... I will never forget that... sad. Beautiful soul.......

Blind Melon reminds me of my youth. My young teenage years. Best years of my life. Every time I listen to an album, it takes me back to a better time and place. Shannon RIP. Getting sober is the hardest but best thing I ever did. We've lost so many incredible talents to substance abuse.

Excellent job, Jordan. I'm going to have Galaxie playing in my head for days now....and that's a good thing. I read somewhere a few years ago Axl Rose didn't go to Shannon's funeral....not because of any disagreement but because he didn't want his funeral to be about Axl showing up with the paparazzi snapping photos. He wanted to respect his friends and family and have the funeral be about Shannon's life.

@Daze With Jordan The Lion Shannon Hoon's documentary "All I Can Say" was so heartbreaking. He seems he so badly wanted to be happy but never dealt with the divorce of his parents and all the anger that he kept deep inside. I feel heartbroken for his girlfriend, daughter and mom and dad. Without giving anything away, he knew he was going to die. He was a brilliant creator of music. His voice was very unique. What a great piece to do Jordan. Thank you

Thank you for doing this vlog, Jordan. I'm a huge Melon Head, and Shannon is an underappreciated talent. He wrote, "Change" when he was 16 years old, sitting on the front porch of the house you were to! His mom, Nel is a sweetheart and very involved and engaged with the fans. I'm friends with her on Facebook believe it or not. She tells a lot of stories about his childhood on there and shares pictures as well. ✌️

Lafayette, Indiana is nothing but a drug town. I can understand his band mates wanting to keep him away from there. My sister has lived most of her adult life there and is heroin addicted. She always moved back to Lafayette because that's where it was easy to find drug connections. Sad, but true.

Jordan, I just have to give you mad props. This was the most comprehensive and knowledgeable video I've ever seen on Shannon. I'm a huge fan myself and you covered the whole gambit man. Fantastic job. I was actually in New Orleans when he passed. I had bought tickets for their show at Tipitina's months in advance and made it down there about an hour after they found Shannon on the bus. Horrible day. I've still got the ticket to that show in fact. But anyway, I just had to let you know how fantastic of a job you did and how much it's appreciated. Take care of yourself and be safe out there. Peace brother

That was not his girlfriend on the phone, he was speaking to someone telling them he wanted to get back home to his girlfriend and daughter and that he couldn't go back on that bus. Wanted a plane to go home that day or night. He even asked for a phone call when the flight time would be, but he was made to get back on the bus and he used again and died. He was crying for help on that last phone call in the hotel room. So very sad. He would be alive today had that person on the phone had called his management and got him to the airport and waited for a cancelation seat. Sadly his last cry for help was never heard...

I was lucky to see Bling Melon at Reading Festival in 1995 where I was down the front. They eventually got chucked off as Shannon had thrown his microphone over the eaves of the stage structure and was swinging off the cable like Tarzan, I don't think the sound crew were too happy with his wrecking their equipment! :D Good times!

I left a little "good luck" coin on his headstone back in 2002 or 2003....I went back there a couple years later and it was gone...their was a lot of things behind that coin and it meant a lot to me as his music did and still does...i carried it for a while for good luck until i left it on Shannon's headstone as my way of saying "thank you" for your music and for getting me thru some of my darkest of times....I wouldn't of left it there for someone to take...I left it there for Shannon and not you..if your reading this by chance...I could never take something off a person's grave...it was cool and unique and very different...I will say their is alot of darkness behind that thing...I will visit him one day again and it would be cool if it was gave back...Shannon Hoon...Unless it was Nell or Nico...that would be the only acceptation and OK by me ...I've been there 3 times since 2002...that's how much his music meant to me and still does....I put it there to look over his grave and to keep negativity away......

I was backstage at Memorial Hall in KC partying with the opening band Dig. For the Blind Melon set, I got to be in front of the barricade and take pictures. I never saw Shannon backstage. The guys in Dig told me they gave him LSD that night. He had a Picnic Committee shirt on and had the best aura. He danced and sprinkled happy dust on the crowd. I loved it. That, was a great night! A very great band lead by a great front man. Their albums are some of my all time favorites. I have visted his grave several times and have some anomalies in one of my photos. It may be coincidence or have a good explanation above my knowledge, but it was one photo out of many crystal clear. One thing about the grave site, it was very peaceful. There is a book that chronicles his career you can find online. It is a diary style narrative but very interesting. There is also a recent interview with the remaining members of the band worth a view. Great job as always, Jordan! #ripshannon

Saw Blind Melon open for the Stones on the Voodoo Lounge tour in 1994, and the one thing that stood out (even 27 years later) was how out of it Shannon was - his vocal delivery and stage presence was really erratic that night and it seemed the group as a whole was fading quickly.

I also saw Blind Melon open for the Stones during that tour. I was actually excited since I was somewhat of a fan of Blind Melon as well. Blind Melon opened for Guns 'N Roses in April of '93. in Omaha, Ne. The crowd was so rowdy (& I mean _ROWDY!_ ) & pumped for GNR that they booed BM during every song. Shannon got irritated & yelled, "If you don't settle down, we're gonna play for another 45 minutes!" Someone in the audience threw a roll of toilet paper on stage. Shannon picked it up, pulled his pants down, wiped his ass with it and threw it into the audience & walked off stage. I'd never heard a band booed so hard.

If memory serves, the original CD of the Illusions set contained a third version of Don't Cry, only available on the original, first release CDs. I've yet to hear that 2rd version....

Loved Blind Melon. It was a smooth playing band. Too bad Shannon couldn't shake his demons. Addiction is a terrible thing. Great video Jordan.

"Soup" is one of the greatest LP's ever!!! Criminally overlooked!!! Like Nirvaner!... I'd have LOVED to hear what the next LP and evolution of the band would've held for both bands

Izzy Stradlin is also from here in Lafayette,Indiana I only live like 3 miles from his grave at Dayton...Blind Melon is wayyyyy better live I recommend the live intimate and interactive on Canada Much Music it was recorded less than a month before shannon dies and then of course the Woodstock 94 performance to me was epic I was there but didn't recall a whole lot of it lol I had "amnesia" give me a break lol Shannon was clean until they got to L.A. and they ran into Alice in Chains Layne Stayley and that is when Shannon fell off the wagon again and bought cocaine fr Layne...his gf and 3 month old daughter Nico Blue Hoon flew back to Lafayette and Shannon figured hey the old lady and baby are gone let's party a lil he had just gotten lout of rehab and had drug councilor on tour with him to help watch him and keep him off drugs but Shannon was doing it right in front of the guy and he wasn't doing nothing about it but sitting on the bus watching TV so the other guys fired him..anyway he does about all that coke as they tour through Denver and idk couple other places before rhey played Numbers club in Houston and was said to been a terrible show that Shannon appeared like he was going to die there he was sweating bad and even kept hitting his mouth on the mic and he knew thr show was bad and stayed awake all night while the tour went into New Orleans his old haunt see he knew new Orleans was bad and knew that dope flew the=e easy its where they had just recorded the album they was touring "Soup" recorded at Kingsway recording studio new Orleans...it's damn eerie because when the song first track is played it starts out with new Orleans brass band playing the funeral March song they play as they walking a body to the cemetery down there its haunting to say the least...but anyway he was said to have had the biggest ball of coke they had ever saw anyone with he reported to have bought it from someone in Houston he made a call and someone brought it to him now you can see on the all I can say documentary he don't appear to be no intoxicated than Jordan looks lol which means none at all so he recording himself no shirt and shorts in motel room its about 830? On phone with his gf who was his longtime gf byw high school sweethearts...he tells her " I need to get off that fucking bus" as fatw would have it he dies in said bus only hours later I've always wondered what his coke levels was someone said he had bought some GOOD coke in Houston some Bolivian flake as it was close to pure they say...I theorize he went to his room called his gf got off phone seen he wasn't going to be able to sleep because he been doing coke all night and it keeps you awake...so I think he decided it's all ready close to sound check fug it and busted out the new strong coke from Houston and that is what killed him he likely done a huge rail like he done with the less potent stuff and when it hit him it busted his heart its why when he was found he was in guitarist Christopher thorn bunk on thr bus snd it was said that was TABOO Def 1000 % never ever bother another mates bunk it was super off limits I think he felt his heart racing and knew he was in trouble and dove into Christopher's bunk hoping to calm down and the heart rate come down his feet alsonwas sticking out of tbe bunk when they tried to wake him the sound guy tickled his feet thinking he had passed out ya know but he didn't respond and tried again and then rolled him over and said knew immediately he was in trouble and yelled to call 911 and started CPR he was half blue and warm to touch so he hadn't been gone long EMTs arrive and just looked at him and said he's dead and walked off thr bus as he was left on there for several hrs while they finished tbe investigation...anyway if anyone has ever heard of the levels of drugs found in his body id love to know its don't make a difference but I'd still very curious. I can't believe how long ago it has been my how time flies a d keeps going faster...he was such a talented individual no telling what they could went kn to become had he not died...it tore his family apart especially his mom and dad who just died in June his dad buried beside bim and the song " Vernie" is about his grandma she just died also I thinkn 2018 she was 99 yrs old I believe vernie long her name

I rediscovered Blind Melon at 28. I was obsessed. They were never a "hippie band." Shannon, I don't think liked that label and No Rain wasn't his favorite to play maybe for that reason. I had no idea that his mom sold the house. I'm pretty sure I've seen different people coming and singing on that porch with moma Nel around the time of his Vigils. Thank's for showing this!

No, lies was actually their ep before appetite and a few acoustic songs. Not an album release. A collection of songs.
