My dad was probably the best hockey parent I could have hoped for. He would find a spot in the rink to watch the game and it was usually the top row of the stands where you couldn't really see him. He always asked me if I had fun after the games. He had 6 kids all playing high-level hockey so he had a lot of practice I guess.

@@Spanluver Exactly. Kids play sports for fun and the love of the game. I think hockey(every sport really) should have a strict code of conduct for parents to adhere to when attending the games or practices. I literally have gone to see minor hockey games where I have walked out because of how disrespectful parents are in the arena. I had refused to coach one kid because of his parents. Felt bad for the kid but his parents were too much.

@@Spanluver Money is king you are right. There are tons of kids with parents who don't push their hockey dreams of living through their kids. At the end of the day if the parents are going to be an issue in coaching the kid sorry I have other kids I can work with. I gave them a chance to adjust their conduct and they didn't change so on to the next. It is not an ego thing and I wish the kid well but you can only control yourself and who you surround yourself with. I choose not to surround myself with negative people.

My parents were incredible hockey parents. My mom was always loud in the stands, but no louder than anyone else. My dad could always tell when I was slacking a little bit, and he knew how to say something that would make me realize I was slacking myself. They made an effort to get me to every camp in the area, but ONLY if I wanted it, and I wasn't about to turn down hockey. Regarding reincarnation, I can't be held responsible for anything I did in a previous life. Realistically, I probably shouldn't be given too much responsibility at the best of times. Merry Christmas to you and yours Steve.

I followed him when he was younger as he was always at the lonely end of the rink. I usually got grief from other parents who didn't like me teaching my kid how to play angles, get his stick involved in the play, stay up and let the player make the first move...etc...

@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA I never had dreams of him playing in the NHL, but I did want him to come away with life lessons, like how to win, how to lose, how to handle pressure, how to see everything coming at him, how to use restraint, and how to focus.

Another great ‘Season Two’ vid in the books! If my kids were in love w/hockey like I am.. I’d probably be on ice with them saying, ‘Betcha Can’t do it like Dad!’ 🤣.. Here’s hoping FPG TV S2 will outlast Mandalorian!! 😎

Great video and advice. The worst I ever saw was a parent that was also her kid's team's coach and an organizer in the league. Needless to say she had her C level son playing AA level and getting whipped each game. Poor kid was blamed for losses by his teammates and would cry after games. She obviously had a dream, but it was just that.

Unfortunately I’m a parent and the only goalie coach so I’m responsible for 2 kids 😳 it’s guys like you and Korn that I depend on so I can pretend I know what I’m talking about. We are very blessed that my parents are great goalie parents. I have always worked hard at not showing or the perception that I’m showing my kid favoritism. I leave playing time up to the head coach and try to stay in my lane. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

So I shouldn't set up the GoPro behind his net each period, so he can review his play? I do the same for me when I'm in net.

What is your opinion of video taping games, say, from behind the net? My wife has been doing this really from the beginning of my son's "career". He says it really helps especially with angles and positioning. But is it a case of information overload and getting him thinking too much? It should be noted that, as parents, that we know NOTHING about the position and don't coach him at all.
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 жыл бұрын
Time to time would be fine, but every game would be too much IMO. You can’t video him later if he plays college or high end junior. Parents always behind the glass video taping every game tend to put a target on the kid. Meaning it can encourage teammates to chirp them.

Nice introspective into goalie parents. There are a lot with little, to no modesty, or are too overbearing. Maybe a video series dedicated to goaltending parents.
