Fascinating lesson. I remember reading years ago that you can play minor scale of the 5th over each othe chords in a blues.. this proves how good it can sound. Love those licks.

mmmm the swing was so infectious there! osmosis rules. also love the way lick two brings out that 9 so well. theres a lot of new mileage from licks already known in this two for five concept. it's good for breaking out of the more literal thinking.

Am a little bit confused. If the 5th degree of Cmaj is Gmaj, and the relative minor is Am, how does Gmin work for Cmaj or C7? Thanks! Awesome content, as always, man. God bless you and stay safe, always. \m/
@GypsyJazzSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Gm or G Dorian has all the good notes for C7 which is C E G Bb. In gypsy jazz we play a C7 the same way we play Gm6 G-E-Bb all the best! Robin
@agavalence3 жыл бұрын
@@GypsyJazzSecrets So, playing Gm over C7 isn’t, actually, theory-based? But, you can also play Cmaj over C7, right? Thanks so much for the response and lesson, Robin. Appreciate it. I think, I get it now. :)
@GypsyJazzSecrets3 жыл бұрын
@@agavalence the key note is Bb which is the dominant 7th in C7 and the minor 3rd in Gm. If you played only C Major over C 7 it would sound bland and would not hit the Bb which is the key not in that chord. Have fun!
@agavalence3 жыл бұрын
@@GypsyJazzSecrets So, in that sense, would Am also work on D7? Pardon me for asking too much, Rob. Hope I’m not eating too much of your time. :) Thanks, brother!
@GypsyJazzSecrets3 жыл бұрын
@@agavalence yes in that sense it does, the same as Gm6 & C7. Record a chord on your phone and then play over it with these ideas

I wish you would show on screen tablature of each lick. It is time consuming to figure out the lick by just watching and trying to capture the notes by sound.
@GypsyJazzSecrets4 жыл бұрын
Maurice Sherbanee yes that would be cool. I would say listening is really important too to develop your ear. Try to get the jist of the lick and find the notes on your guitar. Cheers, Robin
