Hello Robin, As a bassist looking ti expand my soloing vocabulary I have been enjoying your lessons immensely and was pleasantly surprised to hear you mention my old Quiet Riot and Ozzy bandmate, Randy Rhoads. Randy was a dedicated classical guitarist and would’ve been very proud to hear your kind words. Rudy Sarzo

" Don't get lost in arpeggio land " the best quote of 2023. Really enjoy your approach, it's got street value. Hope to see ya playing in the UK or even a retreat sometime. Thanks from deepest, darkest Devon where there's not much Gypsy jazz going down although I recently discovered a pub in Exeter where they have Gypsy jam sessions once a month.

That was brilliant. For years, I have been using the trick of playing a C natural note against a B7 chord (if the song is in Em) knowing it made it sound extra 'spicey' for some reason. Never thought of it as playing a C dim chord/scale until now. Genius! The idea that the F dim chord is just an E7 with a F note in it has blown my mind and expanded my lead guitar vocabulary almost instantly. Thanks for sharing your insight.

C diminished and B7 chord are the same. Play B7 with C bass note. You already know.

It's really cool that the diminished chord in a dominant context is a seventh with a flat 9. Also really cool how a diminished chord divides an octave into four equal slices!

the dim shape can also be used for the minor 6th - over the second 4 bars of autumn leaves (if played in Aminor) you can use the half diminished shape on the 2nd fret - that's Dm6 - (index finger location on A string 2nd fret) then move to 5th fret, then drop a string and move the shape up one fret - that's now E7 - move it up 3 for another E7 - then up one string and you've completed the journey with Am6 without changing the diminished shape. magic!

Brilliant vid, as ever, Robin. It really gives a mysterious gypsy (and now I realise it is also naughty) sound to dominant seventh passages. That sliding down a fret thing must be brilliant for Rhythm changes. I will try it. Tres cool 😀🕶😎🎸 PS Good to see the Diminished Rocket (Lick#2) in action: ** * * **
