I can't believe 20 years ago feels like two, the marginal quality of the video makes it look older than it looked experiencing it first hand. Was born in the late 70s and flew on nearly every aircraft type shown here with exception to the MD-11, though I have been on DC-10s. I can tell you that from a comfort (if flying above economy) and safety standpoint the 2010's have been the gold standard in aviation but nothing quite like the whine you got on a 727, DC-9 or the thrill of the L-1011 (I miss those the most). You can still find 757s -- which in my opinion are amazing aircraft to fly on and any pilot will tell you it's one of their favorites -- I still think it's one of the best looking. Sadly CV-`19 is going to phase out a lot of 75s 76s and 747s. Fly on the a380s while you still can, those are going away fast.

I saw a whole fleet of identical planes as if there was a world plan and organization to the world I live in. It felt epic. It felt something was on fire. @@outcast1177 9/11 shook the aviation industry, some were angry it happened, many more were terrified of flying. The smaller airlines that didn’t have the finances to backup their losses went bankrupt, and either sold of their aircraft/scrapped them, or merged/bought by larger airlines, unfortunately, most airlines want their aircraft to have their designs on them to draw in more passengers, so most smaller airlines simply vanished. Same thing with the aircraft, airlines struggled to keep the more unreliable/inefficient aircraft due to the extremely thin profit margins, so some of them were scrapped. Not long after, there was a recession, and people stopped flying, then fuel prices spiked and any aircraft that couldn’t operate efficiently was either running at a loss or extremely close, which wasn’t worth it, so we ended up with 737s, 777s, a321s etc, the ‘bland’ simple aircraft.

You've obviously drank the un-informed Kool-Aid of and have lack of even a small iota of any knowledge of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 series>>The DC-10 was NOT and is NOT a dangerous airplane--I built them, flew them and maintained them for many years---the DC-10 jumbo jet series airliner by McDonell Douglas was one of the best jumbo jets ever---and in 1978 after the horrible crash of the AA in Chicago--the DC-10 underwent one of the most in depth and detailed drill down studies EVER of an engineering review done by the FAA for MONTHS--and passed with flying colors. The cause of the crash was NOT the aircraft--in fact----it was a faulty maintenance procedure used by AA Maintenace crews to change the wing engines--(and others did the same thing BTW). Modifications were made and it NEVER happened again---45 years later!!>>> Most people like you, obviously do not understand the vastness of scope of engineering, manufacturing and tens of thousands of thousands of maintenance, inspection, overhaul procedures and human talent that it takes to make AND KEEP these type of engineering marvels flying EVERY DAY for so many millions of hours and MILLIONS of miles and for over the forty decades as they have been!!!!!. An airliner is NO WHERE NEAR the simple machine like a car, a boat, a train or an engine-----more like a like a space rocket, they are the most complex, detailed, phenomenal examples of as close to perfection as a machine can be---and because they ARE machines>>>yes things sometimes break and fail---but again--for you and others like you to call the DC-10 series jumbo jet airliner "dangerous" is not only unfounded, asinine, foolish--it as also unwarranted as well based on the millions and MILLIONS of safe and accident free miles and hours flown by the "Big Ten" since 1970--and still flying around the world today and into the future>> 'Nuf said>>

Fun fact: the 747-400 displayed at the Delta Flight Museum (N611US) is the first -400 variant to enter service and the same aircraft that was involved in the Northwest Airlines flight 85 incident

Gerard Lang Nearly all gone now, apart from a few cargo operators. also many classic 747-100/ -200 / -300 series, which have since disappeared from the skies, with just a few -200s and SP’s about. Soon to be followed by the -400, as KLM and Qantas retired theirs this week. I was fortunate enough fly twice on a Qantas 747 many years back.
