The insurance "Por ror bor" is compulsory third party for registering a vehicle. It is not comprehensive by any means. I use Roojai for all my insurance needs. If you don't have a Thai driving licence by now, you are probably one of the many illegal drivers on the roads in Thailand. It is easy to convert UK to Thai licence. Takes about an hour. No test required. Just do it. Camilla would need to get a residency certificate from immigration and you both will need to get a medical certificate from a local med centre.

I went to that exact office to transfer my uk car and bike licence. I had to watch a video for an hour and do a reaction test then it was done! Happy dek waen 555

Here in the states, we always make sure if vehicles are not currently registered, there may be fees associated when registering the vehicle into our names. Looks like Thailand is the same, insurance required also in order to keep registration current. Glad it's all legit, back on the road 🛵👍.

Insurance covers 3rd parties and vehicle only. For 3rd parties fire and theft, and medical expenses you need extra insurance, I'm insured through AIA, might be expensive but worth it. Never had a crash in Thailand but there's always a first time.

Haha.. I just went thru the exact same thing.. but for a car I purchased. It took me 5 friging hours from start to finish to transfer the car to my name lol... it was quite a process and lot of queuing.. not like in UK :D ..but eventually I made it! Car is mine lol

If it's not been paid already you have to pay it that's just the rules. If you try to find a logical reason for it you'll just be wasting your time.

Nong Natt, that's how it is now prepare for every two week public police stops you give them two hundred baht for nothing they smile let you go, if you don't pay then you go to police station and then you pay 500 Baht. The plate is automatic even though not needed it's a money generation idea.
