I decided to come back to this mall, first because I haven't been there in over 1 year my self. And secondly, in my original videos so many people said "come back after 1 year or 2 years" to show everyone what its going to look like. If I was a Russian, I would be questioning why we aren't the richest country on earth. It's the largest, has unlimited timber and other natural resources, med-like climate, arctic and everything in between. We could grow everything we need. Have a thriving tourist industry in our cities, and beach resorts further south within a few hours flight from Central/Eastern Europe. All we have to do is not attack anyone. No one is looking to invade us. What are we doing wrong.

I am uncomfortable reminding you that our economy only became a market economy 30 years ago, people only learned about capitalism, we did not have the money to build and develop a business. Of course, we are not China, but in these 30 years we have been able to do something. From one of the poorest countries in the world, we have become a country that easily survives under the largest sanctions, develops and, according to the forecasts of the World Bank, everything will be fine.

Well, permafrost & deserts don't sustain agriculture well, & half of Russia is permafrost or desert. Also, stealing from yourselves is too easy to do. You have laws but the people at the top ignore them. That sets a social climate. Whatever the leaders do is what regular folks feel OK doing. Logistics is also a huge problem for you. Your Country is just too damned big. Transporting stuff such long distances adds costs that go straight to consumers.
@ptick1611 күн бұрын
@@pshh-pshh - You were partially correct. Russia only developed into close to being a first world country because investment of companies from the west, and ONLY because of that. Western governments allowed that in the hopes that Russian leaders could learn that imperialistic thinking should be a thing of the past, and look how good every can have it if we all just work together. But, the leaders of Russia thought that the economic might that we, the west, built for them empowered them to attack smaller nations. Now, the future of the Russian Federation is very bleak indeed. It looks as if the Russian Federation may break up into smaller nations, just as the USSR did in the 1990s. If that doesn't happen, the standards of living there will still revert to those of the middle 1900s or worse. It's a shame, really. Russia cannot seem to rid herself of corrupt warmongering leaders.

Now there are a lot of shopping centers, for example, the Columbus shopping center (you can look at the map), there are always a lot of people there, because it is conveniently located and there are always a lot of people, especially on weekends. It's not about sanctions, but about location. And now online orders are very popular, when everything is delivered literally to the next house. Therefore, many people simply place orders by phone

Thank you! I'm in the Netherlands, and I know Russian stores only from Siberian Freedom and associated KZbin channels. Regardless of politics, I wish everybody on Earth to be happy - including the ability to buy things and enjoy them. However, I wouldn't fancy visiting a place like Mega. Too big, with connotations of "unwieldy", "expensive" and "impractical". I'd rather browse some webpages and maybe (occasionally) check a store before ordering, then wait for the delivery van (from that store). Nor could I imagine hiring space in such a mall for a business. Plus the staff to man it. A friend of mine compares shopping with visiting (contemporary) museums. I can see it that way. Then I could join on a visit to such a shopping mall. But not to enjoy myself. Here in the Netherlands, we don't have shops this size (to my knowledge, that is). The concept of a single big store just outside a city has been tried here some forty years ago (Maxis, at Muiden near Amsterdam), but it didn't succeed. It has been converted to a mall of smaller shops, but there's no need to go there (except maybe topping up your car at the gas station). - But then, the entire Netherlands has nearly 18 million inhabitants, just over the Moscow region number. Once again it strikes me, how many shops in Russia seem to target prospects by having more or less English-inspired names in Latin characters.

Also as of the most recent data: In the UK, the average annual salary is around £33,000-£35,000. In Russia, the average annual salary is around £8,000-£10,000 So British wages are generally around 3-4 times higher than Russian wages on average. Let's see that in another perspective, by purchasing power when a Russian person buys 1 pack of cherry tomatoes I can buy about 6 packs. That's 6 to 1, hello! @@Oomph6006 According to the IMF, Russia has been the 4th Economy in the world in terms of PPP since 2021, when Russia overtook Japan. It is necessary to calculate the economy by PPP, and not by nominal figures. Calculating the country's economy in nominal figures does not mean anything, for example, in the United States, income from prostitutes is taken into account in GDP. Imagine, you got a haircut at a barbershop in the USA for $ 30, and in Russia for $ 10. At face value, the United States writes itself $30 of GDP and Russia 10, although they performed exactly the same actions. The same thing happens if tomatoes are grown in the USA for $ 5 per kilogram, and in Russia for a $ 1,5 per kilogram. Therefore, it is necessary to count by PPP.

The interest rate in Russia is currently 21% and rising, and inflation probably higher. I live in a country nearby Russia... Rate 3,3% with prognosis of reaching 2% within 2025. Government just present gigantic plan for infrastructure to stimulate the economy, create jobs and make life more comfortable for our inhabitants. Russia spends 40% of the budget on warfare which Russia pays for with high inflation-money - which creates nothing - just misary and future costs. ...and Russell continuously shows half filled average shopping centres... Somehow it makes the audiance happy to see western brands in tye shelves - as a "victory"? (Think of the insane cost to get them?) When peace is negotiated, do you really think that there are any western companies interested to invest in Russia with the insane risk of loosing it all when the president goes bananas even more? We get along with our lives just fine without Russia. The small cooperation we had in the energy sector is sadly degraded and will stay in the margin for many decades to come... ...but keep on feeling proud for your shopping centres for now. I'm glad that something can melt a frozen heart...

*You have to bear in mind that the AVERAGE PENSION in Russia in 2024 is only € 240 = 258 US-$ and the average SALARY is 670 € = 720 US $!* General inflation in Russia rose very significantly to around 9% in the second half of 2024. *The central bank has therefore raised the key interest rate to an incredible 21%!* This in turn is a disaster for investments, which are falling sharply. Thank you so much for your insightful report. I worked in Moscow from 2015 to 2020 when Covid arrived. Although I am in touch with my friends in Russia, we are very careful about what we talk about and so many of my curiosities have been answered by this video Rather than having to ask them. Certainly the mall looks very similar to how it looked when I would go there. I imagine a IKEA substitute will come along pretty shortly. Interesting to see how the international brands have been re-incorporated into secondary stores. Did you have any insight on how they manage to acquire these products. I do know from my friends that there is much concern and suspicion about the legitimacy of the products from Levi jeans to Apple computers. Even when I was there, they would pay me to bring products from the US that were available in Russia for a similar price, only because they knew they would be authentic.
