Thanks for this video, it demystifies the workings of a Rotary.

I've been following this since you got it, you've done an awesome job re purposing it. I wish we got something like this in New Zealand.

Awesome little rotary!, I would love one like that for my shop, even if it is start/stop. actually start/stop would be best since I do not use air all that often it would be a waste to have it running all the time. I am keeping an eye on ebay for a small unit that I can convert to single phase.

You got to be careful with any lubricated compressor if you only use them to say just air up a tire or occasional use they don't get up to operating temp and they will make and accumulate condensate in the sump tank or crank case. When I'm done it will run ether stop start or continuously

ALLAN KENNEY I guess it doesn't take much

rotarycomptech That is a really good point, it would get a reasonable amount of use here, I have a load of air tools that I rarely use due to a lack of air in reserve, that and being able to spray paint with a gun, that would be awesome.

You might have have considered getting an adjustable sheave to replace the original one since they are different sizes. You could have manually adjusted to speed.

KALI SUNSHINES that Arrangement you're referring to is quite pricey$. And requires a little bit more room than what I had to deal with considering there's a fan blade on the drive motor, But yeah I know what you're talking about it's a pretty cool setup snowmobiles use them Thanks for the comment!

ROTARYCOMPTECH hey thanks for your response! It really wouldn’t be much more possibly less dollar difference. Since you purchased a pulley 4.8 slightly smaller then the original that can actually significantly change your speed. I would had advised instead of the fixed pulley (especially since it’s not the same as original size) to go with 1vl48 or 1vl52 instead of the fixed pulley you purchased. It’s usually a good ideal to have the adjustable pulley on the drive side. I worked on an electrical motor sales counter for quite awhile. Btw I enjoyed the video. You did a pretty decent job on the camera work 😎

Perhaps invest in one of those vacuum oil extractors? I bought a topsider, very simple design and operation and I will never go back to simply draining oil again.

I wonder how many amps the fan adds to the motor? If its getting near max maybe a suitably sized gaurd mount fan motor would fit in the aperture, would take some of the load off the motor and it could run constant for better cooling. I got given an old air compressor on friday! think it just needed a new capacitor on the motor, will get a vid done in the future.

The motor by it self running W/ no load 8.2 amps w/ fan installed and running no compressor load obviously 8.4 amps so really not that much Thanks for the comment Jon

it was probably used to fill a bunch of tank, hence the start stop. The bigger the tank, the larger the hysteresis so it would run a long time, shut down a long time
@nicholassmerk10 жыл бұрын
What do you want to use it for that would require it to not be start/stop? I wouldn't mind having one of those. I have a el-cheepo 2hp devilbiss unit right now...for $100 I'm waiting for the compressor to throw a bearing some day.

If any motor starts and stops more than 5-7 per hour it's better to run continuously if possible also it's less expensive electrically to operate. It's only 3 HP so almost any application will be excessive

Enjoying watching your progress, Can these rotary screw compressors be run on a variable speed drives to regulate pressure? It would be energy saving and would eliminate start stop.
@rotarycomptech10 жыл бұрын
Yes they can run on a VFD but it's costly and a little impractical for a 3 HP Keep in mind you have to get the compressor to communicate with the VFD
@Coolkeys200910 жыл бұрын
Only worth it if you can find the needed parts laying around. It would be lovely to see that compressor spooling up and down though. May next time your on a job you can show us a variable speed one.

Hello,Thank for showing this vidoe.We have also 12 Quincy rotary screw compressors in our Asphlat plants and they have been used since 2 years. Sometimes I face with problems on them and it is diffuculte to fix falures on time.There is not Quincy service in my country for this reason I want to get solutions via internet. By the way I have problem with one of 75 hp compressor now and I am not sure this is normal working or not, I would like to get advise from you to make sure all is ok, or I can check my compressor and fix it by your support, Thyank you in advance, Regards, Salmanov Babek

Thank you for your answer, So my compressor is Quincy QSB75. When we start the compressor it starts to load by 120 psi(8,3bar) and then unload by 2 bar and start back again to load by 120 psi.This prosess is contunied all they long.Problem is my amp persentage of compressor motor shows excessive load on the motor.and ampere goes up to around 130 persent of max amp while loading and comes back to around 70 persent of max amp while unloading.I am afaraid one day my motor will burn up because of high amp while loading. As i know the compressor should build max 107 psi before to start to unloading, but mine is building 120 psi,that us why i seen high amp. My question is is this normal or not, if it is not, how I can fix this ptroblem. I have vidoe of this compressor ,but I do not know how I can share this vidoe . Thank you Regards, Salmanov Babek
