@@rotarycomptechdid you enjoy this field of work? I'm 39 and thinking of joining the trade. Been in the automotive and commercial facility service line of work for the past 20. Focusing my knowledge on industrial compressors sounds interesting

@@DBrisky37 I think it might be more enjoyable to be an auto mechanic, especially in this day and age, when the shops are all air-conditioned. It’s an interesting field, considering you’re always somewhere different all the time but it’s hot, and typically very dirty

Hey man I don't know how active you currently are on your channel and I'm a Compressor technician as well doing my own videos just wanted to say you inspired me to start my own videos on KZbin as well as I've learned a lot from your channel in this field and applied it to my day to day job doing this professionally! Hope to hear back from you!!!

Benny CompTech hey Benny thanks for the comment I'm probably not as active with KZbin as I was in the early days although I still post a few videos now and again. I'm glad to see that I have inspired you, have already checked out a few of your videos! keep up the good work! And keep the videos coming

ROTARYCOMPTECH thanks man! I'm not afraid to admit I don't know everything but I'll also say confidently I know a lot and have leaned a lot since I started doing this 3 years ago and since then I've become my companies number 1 profit technician since 10/16 so my future doing this is looking very promising hope we'll get to talk more in the future I love learning from guys like you who have been in this for a long time! Have a good one buddy!

You should add a little timmer when the Compressor is unloaded for like 5 minutes or more it shuts down and when the pressure drops to the point where it normaly loads it self it should start back up. Then you doesnt even have to go outside and shut it down.

That's a great idea and I kind of thought about that but that's just more wiring different things to do I honestly really don't use a compressor that often

Hey Dave, Good to see you back! Question for you, I was told at some time by someone that rotary screw compressors is slightly more efficient in terms you get a little more cfm out of a rotary screw in the same HP of a reciprocating unit? Also do you know what the specs were for CFM delivery on the older Quincy 325 units were such as the ROC 13? I only ask because when my tank sprung a leak in 2014, I opted to take the Quincy out of service for the time being and bought a Castair (Saylor Beall 705 knock off) that was rated at 17.5 CFM at 175 PSI at 767 rpm and I noticed it cycles slightly longer than the Quincy I had before that was running at 815 RPM. Did the older ROCs deliver a higher CFM than the new ones at 17.4 @175 psi? I plan on getting a nother tank and using an alternating relay so the Quincy and the Castair can take turns (a future project). Thanks. Take care! Scott

Hello Scott, Here's what I know to my knowledge, the most efficient air compressors ever manufacture were the double acting reciprocating compressors. The single acting reciprocating compressors all remain about the same CFM characteristics with a slight Edge to the machines with reed valves apposed to concentric disc valves like the QR-25 series. The two stage rotary screw compressors such as the offering from sullair and Ingersoll Rand come very close to the efficiency of the old double acting reciprocating compressors. Otherwise the flow is about the same per horsepower with a single stage rotary screw air compressor and a single acting reciprocating compressors Thanks for the great question once again this is just my opinion based upon what knowledge I have gathered over the years

Funny you should mention double acting recips, I've acquired 3 Bristol Duplex compressors over the last few years, the most recent being a real beauty that has had very little use. They were made in Bristol, logically enough, in the UK. They were made in a range of sizes from quite small single cylinder models, the nice one I just bought is an example, with a 1 HP motor, to large V4's. I also have a a couple of the smaller V twin models. Bristol boasted higher efficiency of these double acting 'Duplex' compressors back in the day, at one time they were quite popular but from the 60's became too expensive and Bristol got into difficulty. They were taken over by Vickers I think, but they asset stripped them and closed them down.

How did this little guy hold up? I'd be worried a possible lack of sump pressure while unloaded could be bad for bearing lube, curious if it all worked out!

Hey Peter, Funny you should ask as I just got done Fabricating new enclosure panels for the unit. I’ve used it pretty heavily the last few years, I honestly haven’t had any issues with it outside of corrosion on the enclosure panels, as I keep it outside.

okay im really sorry to ask about this more but i took the whole head apart yesterday and cleaned evrything up i figured out that the hydraulic unloader and tower wernt hooked up right it was hooked into the side not the top but when i put it to the top it still had air coming out of the intake so i unhooked the line and there is air leaking through the unloader all the time so i know that it needs to be fixed so i just took it off and capped it to se if it would leak out the intake and it did so im just raelly confused are the valves bad also

Hello Dave, thanks for sharing your experience with us. You know, I am a noob in the world of screw compressors, and I feel I've learned much about them just by watching a few of your vids. Thanks for that. I do have a question, if your time allows it. Is there a way to visually establish if the compressor is rigged to run in start-stop or load-unload mode? I'm thinking in the lines of looking at the solenoids, or lines, or something like that. I recently acquired an old-ish italian made screw compressor, for peanuts basically, but I don't know in which mode it was used. I know it blows air in a relatively decent volume, motor is 11kW (I believe about 15HP), but having no system to attach it to yet (work in progress), I can't establish the working mode. Just for kicks i tried measuring the pressure on the output, by means of plugging a barometer into the air outlet, but once it reached about 1MPa, it blew the thing straight out of my hand. That was a near miss, my ear was ringing for next half of a day. :D Anyway, thanks for your vids.

You can tell by a wiring diagram and a control schematic

@@rotarycomptech Thanks for replying. That's a bit of an advanced topic for me, so I guess it'll just have to wait until my garage system is complete, and I can try the compressor and figure out the mode that way. Thanks again.

Check inside the control panel if there's a small plug in timer more than likely it's got dual control

@@rotarycomptech hello again Dave. So I managed to run the compressor for the first time, albeit attached to an underrated storage capacity (currently only 270l). It's running in load/unload mode at the moment. I will look for the plug in timer, to see if it can be set to work in start-stop which is more suitable for my use. Cheers

Typically if it has a timer in the control system it should run continuously but when it unloads it should timeout and shut off

John Kitz that's a pretty common question John, It sounds like you have a inlet valve stuck open or possibly the hydraulic unloader causing the inlet valve or valves depending on the model to remain open, If you review the comments on the Quincy repair videos a lot of those questions have been gone over numerous times .By the way that model number you gave me is not a good one
