Guess I'm confused as to why anyone would want to use a Field Monitor hand held. I think the reason the port is located on the right side is that monitors are usually attached to the camera when it is on a tripod or a rig. Sorry to ask on this video. i got question about m50. i shoot in 60fps and in post 30fps because sometime I need to get the slo mo. so on 60fps the best shutter speed is close to double fps which mean our m50 have the option on 1/125 right? But sometime under type of condition of light, 1/125 can catch the flickering on lighting frequency i think but not in 1/100. Do u seen this before? if yes, in this condition, how i want to shoot in 60fps?
@TheFtzen5 жыл бұрын
Light flicker is due to your regions power grid. Thats why you got pal and ntsc. In Europe you have no flicker with 25p or 50p, but you do with 60p. Copy pasted from a website: NTSC is the standard broadcast format in the United States, while PAL is the standard broadcast format in Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia. I know you lose the holy grail of 24p hype, but it might solve the light flickering + allow you to use double the shutter speed. I'm almost 100% sure that nobody will know the difference between 24p and 25p anyway :) Your region probably uses those framerates anyway for broadcasting and you never thought of it :) Here in Denmark our national broadcaster specifies the use of 25p and 50p if you want to deliver videos for their services :) (Also, 50p have no loss of frames when made into 25p, but if you shoot 60p and make it 24p you lose frames). Playing around with shutter speed, like 1/100 might solve the problem, you could also try 1/150 (or what the next step is), but you lose that nice motion blur

Nice video. I didn't know about the audio thing. That makes external monitors a lot less appealing. That ribbon cable is interesting. One other thing is that I don't think the M50 will stay on after 30 minutes when outputting to HDMI (Edit: "RegularGuy" has a fix for that, see his comment).
@regularguy21625 жыл бұрын
You can get around that by plugging in the USB and starting up the EOS utility in remote shooting mode. This tells the camera that it's still being used, and it's not idle, so the power saving feature doesn't kick in. I've used this to live stream for well over the 30 minute mark without interruption.
@ScottJWaldron5 жыл бұрын
@@regularguy2162 You mean you had the utility running, but captured the HDMI output for streaming? That's a smart idea to keep the camera running! I've used the application before and thought about making a video with a x86 windows tablet as a monitor/capture device with the eos utility (it has audio levels that stay on while recording!) but there are so few decent x86 tablets in the 7-8 inch size. Still might buy one eventually and see. The Surface Go is tempting but 10 inches might feel a bit large. Haven't handled one in person.

@TheFtzen5 жыл бұрын
Litterally did the same thing... Thought long and hard, made the purchase... and had almost instant regrets... Embedded audio-bars is not a guarantee with field monitors, i learned this the hard way. Most feelworld monitors have it, but the 570 does not. And to make matters worse, it came with a hdmi mini, not micro. You can however still replay videos and have a listen through the headphone jack, it's not ideal... but you gotta make the most of it. The ribbon-cables looks like a nice solution, but any angled cable makes the world of difference, if you use a gimbal that connects via the usb, then make sure it's angled the right way so it does not block it :) Another huge design flaw of having outputs on the right side of the camera is that it blocks the gimbal arm if you use a straight cable.

Hi, Read the full comment. I have figured out the solution to the sound problem. See the solution is a bit expensive. But it is all there is. So the first think you'd need is an audio inserter. And the second thing you'd need is a video field recorder aka video assist. The audio inserter would cost about $30-$40, and the video assist is a bit expensive. I think not less than $500, but you do the research. A professional filmmaker on the internet says this: "The lack of audio support via HDMI by Canon on its early DSLR Cameras was a move by Canon to sell,you a more expensive video camera, and is not a BM issue with its products. Cinema productions using these cameras, recorded audio separately, so this was not an issue. What you can do is get a something like a BM HDMI to SDI Mini Converter which has a separate audio (analog and AES digital) input, which embeds the audio signal into the HDMI incoming video signal and outputs it SDI, which now gives you a Video signal with the audio embedded to feed to the VA. You will need a separate mixer for the mic feeds to the Mini Converter, I use the Sound Devices MixPre D, but the older MixPre works well, and used ones are at reasonable cost. Take the HDMI out from the Canon Camera to the HDMI in on the Mini Converter. Plug the microphones into a small field audio mixer, take its output to the Audio input on the Mini Converter, then connect the SDI output from thr Mini Converter to the SDI input on the Video Assist. Now you have decent control,of audio levels, with the audio embedded in a SDI signal to the VA, and audio and video are recorded, all syn’d up. I used a similar setup to get audio into a video stream from a camera that did not support audio in its video output." See the filmmaker above uses BM HDMI to SDI Converter, which is a bit expensive. You can use audio inserter instead and it would work well. It should have one audio input, one hdmi input, and one hdmi output. Here is one link I found: www.aliexpress.com/item/32984747683.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.2c8f1d69K9uNbN&algo_pvid=8b0b6203-ac91-4831-b4ab-cda1416bd22b&algo_expid=8b0b6203-ac91-4831-b4ab-cda1416bd22b-0&btsid=0ab6d70515907577092176257e3a08&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ I did the research and it is a sure shot solution. Despite you posting this in September of 2019 and having watched (I thought) all your M50 vids, I discovered too late that things were not destined to go smoothly with connections on a different side of the camera to other "compatible" cameras. Both the USB and HDMI cables were too short (when the transmitter was installed) and required surgery to fit next to each other. Not happy with Canon but what can you do? In my case, the answer looks like purchasing a rig so I can secure the transmitter in a more convenient spot. There are two ways now to do it without a capture card. Canon just released software to do it and I have a video on that, and the other way is using some apps a KZbinr @Scott_McKenna did. He has a video on his channel.

I really wanna use my M50 for livestreaming. Everything I've seen indicates I need to buy more equipment, that I just can't plug it into my computer which is a bit of a downer.

Hey I want to ask if I should pick the lumix g7 or the m50, I like filmmaking, I do run and gun shots, is auto focus worth it?
@TheCrowleyCrew5 жыл бұрын
That depends, the M50 has 720p slow motion, better color and AF but the G7 has better HDMI, better ergonomics, way better battery better 4K. It is a toss up.

@@TheCrowleyCrew Come on, you must definitely be German! The way you pronounce st in "straight" and "stream" suggests German background! I find it very cute.

Nope. I do have polish heritage (my grandmother was 100% polish) but she grew up in New York and had an NY accent. Not sure why myself and a few of my siblings have this impediment especially since my oldest and youngest siblings don’t. 🤷♂️

Sparkocam solves the livestreaming clean output problem, there are also other apps as well, hope that helps. M50 is a great livestreaming camera.

Is that PC or MAC?
@Design4755 жыл бұрын
PC, there is also digicam which is free but I found to be buggy. Ecamm could solve your Mac problem. There are soooo many videos of work arounds with the M50, it is the best budget for quality livestream camera I've found.

Thanks. I used the 22mm pancake lens at 22mm. The way my studio is now I can back up the camera enough to use tighter lenses. It has been really nice.

I have a problem with the external monitor because when I turn it on, my M50 monitor turns off and I lose the touch screen functions for auto focus, etc. Is there a way to use both monitors at the same time?
@daddyrooster882 жыл бұрын
Nope. You have to unplug the hdmi adjust then put back

Does anyone know how to use autofocus while using an external monitor? Especially if the Canon M50 back screen turns off while using an external monitor??

I would suggest using single point. You can press the focus button on the camera to open the focus menu and move the point around to area.

4K HDMI out? 30 or 60 FPS?
@TheCrowleyCrew4 жыл бұрын
I have not had the opportunity yet to use an external recorder with the M50, so I am not sure.
@cjonwickham19334 жыл бұрын
No 4k 60fps and consider native 1.7 + 1.6 crop. Unusable ..1080 full hd 60fps all in or ipb codec compress or raw is standard from canon m series like m50 to r rp r5 r6. Crop factor.
@jbcreations21654 жыл бұрын
can't you just get rid of the overlay by simply pressing on the info button and turning off autofocus?
