I've been shooting real estate with the M50 and Laowa 9mm f/2.8 lens and getting very good results after a lot of trial and error. The Laowa 9mm with the crop factor is 13.5mm full frame. And the 4K footage is actually usable. Although I rarely get requests for 4k footage from the realtor. But nice to know it's there when I need it. Of course, 1080p @60fps looks just as good and perhaps better to some.

My next video is a short film shot in 4k with the canon M50 and boy was it a challenge (no speed booster). But it was super rewarding! BTW, I used to do my edits with Vegas Pro as well but Resolve is so much better. I would recommend doing some video in parallel to others, so you can familiarize yourself with Resolve without hurting your current workflow :)

Thanks for the great information and explanations that even I can understand. 1080p is good enough for me and my output. Quite a few “big” KZbinrs shoot in 1080 and then up res to 4K when they output to KZbin to beat the compression. I’m not convinced the world is ready for actual 4K yet. All my DJI products have a HDR option and shooting in this at 1080p allows my 4K TV to upscale it to 4K from the HDR footage. I think I’ll live with 1080p on the M50 just love this little camera!

For talking head on a tripod the 4k is great. I actually use a loud and old 20-40mm full-frame Tamron, so very much like your setup. I can be at an arm's length from the camera so I can focus on myself easily. To keep an eye on focus I recommend connecting the camera via USB to a pc for talking head.
@TheCrowleyCrew3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! The app can also work well for that cause you can adjust focus via the app.

Hey Crowley! You mentioned you're using cinestyle, I was too for a long time but I always noticed footage turned out soft! Recently I found out Filmkit flat, I highly suggest you to research it and give it a try, I much prefer it, instead of cinestyle, will not be going back! Not a paid promoter or anything, just sharing my own experience I love the profile, and it might be good content to compare it with cinestyle! 🙌

Starting shooting in 4K with the M50 about halfway through 2020 and am absolutely loving it. Rolling shutter is TERRIBLE and I agree with you 100% there...I think it is even worse in 4K, IMHO. Great tips. I have been using the focus peaking, but am going to try the focus zoom that you illustrated. Thanks for another great one!

Actually you can use ef-s lenses and the speed booster. That plastic piece on the s lens will pop off enabling you to attach it to the speed booster and no more vignetting. NOTE: this hack only works when the camera is in video mode and you need to set stabilization to enhanced. When you are done the plastic piece snaps back on and you can use a regular adapter for photography.
@brandonroberts-blake42233 жыл бұрын
And this is why I got the M6 Mark II so the crop wouldn’t be so bad and I wouldn’t lose dual pixel autofocus. The M50 though for the price is a beast.

Dear Crowley Crew, we are still looking for a canon m50 Fisheye lens content. We use for our videos an old third party lens ( vivitar lens) for the canon ef with an adapter. We wonder if there is a differenz between all the manuel fisheye lenses. In our opinion, the canon m50 is a great video camera for skateboarding, but it seems that this little camera is kinda underrated when it comes to filming skateboarding tricks.

i think using the Tv mode full hd is better than 4k movie mode, i tried dozens of videos and any day Tv mode for vlogs or tutorials wins . 4k is good for timelapses but sucks that its croped. I use a Canon M50, 90D and EOS R for my channel...I have an old MacBook pro 8g ram and I'm having hard times editing 4K...and even if somehow I found a way around this issue...I feel like my computer might explode anytime when editing and/or rendering. I use Davinci Resolve by the way. The only reason why a few months ago I bought the EOS R instead of the R5 or R6 is because I was afraid that the files produced by these cameras would have been impossible to edit on my computer....so next big purchase: a new computer!

Nice video as usual. Glad to hear you were able to upgrade your laptop! I'm also attached to (Magix) Vegas video editing software and had the same feeling about Resolve. I do use the M50 in 4K occasionally with close up b-roll of gear to get a bit more detail, but that's about it.
@DanFrullani3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I usually shoot b-roll of gear in slow motion...so I had never considered the possibility to use 4k for that....(my cameras don't have high frame rates in 4k) but after reading your comment I'm going to give it a try. Thank you Scott!
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
@@DanFrullani With the stuff I do, the only motion might be the lens or camera I'm filming (on a lazy susan or in my hands, etc). So more like functional b-roll instead of artistic. I don't attempt to slow down the 4k 24p though I do use it in a 30p timeline without issue.

I've a question that will show my complete ignorance... so I apologize. I purchased a meike 25m 1.8 lens for my canon m50. It has an EF-M mount... it fits the canon m50 body, shows on screen both in camera as well as movie mode. However, the camera will neither take a picture with this lense nor shoot video. Was I wrong in purchasing this lens? In order to use it, do I need an adapter (if so, what kind and in your opinion is it worth it?)? In advance, thank you for any advice you can give me.

Hey Job! Another great video. Very informative and very concise. Thanks! I have a question regarding your general set up on your M50. I’ve noticed in the past and in this video’s thumbnail that you have an ArcaSwiss plate on the bottoms of your SmallRig cage. I’m wondering why. I ask because the bottoms of the smallRig cage for the M50 is machined as a long AcraSwiss plate. I can slide mine into all of my tripod heads. Again asking why you use an extra AcraSwiss plate screwed to the bottom of your M50’s cage. Thanks.
