I actually needed this. I need to know for when you do that video on cohesiveness, how do you go about matching the volumes for the different tracks. I usually master each track separately in it's own session then bring every track into a new session for the transitions but i get stuck on what to do for the volume changes when one track is louder than the previous

Dope video. Def make more mastering videos. I have a question though. Say you're creating seamless transitions so the music doesnt stop. How do you bounce the files so when you play them back it shows you've gone to the next track rather than just bouncing one long continuous song?

Hey Devonn can you do a full in-depth of your mastering process? These tips are very helpful but there some things I’d like to see from your end involving how you make these tips work. Some questions I’m having are: 1) are you adjusting the tempo & key for each track within the marker lines? 2) are you doing the mastering processes on the actual stem track for each file or are you still doing the mastering process on the stereo out. 3) if your mastering each individually in that one session are you coming in contact with phase issues or a different feel vs putting your plugins on the stereo out track? 4) also if your mastering each record in that session as if it was all in one pot how much trouble do you have finding the “right combination” to enhance each mix to make it sound like the masters you want them to be Great video And will definitely take that next video u said u’ll put up soon 🤞🏾✨. Good looking on this one

Great questions, especially about the tempo
@HelpMeDevvon
@HelpMeDevvon Жыл бұрын
This is a great question and ill help ya out. 1. im not adjusting the tempo between markers. This is strictly musical and creative decisions thus why sequencing your album is so key to its flow. You really have to pick which song fits after the other and how you want it to come in. 2. Im mastering a stereo file not the stems. But its not wrong to master stems. 3. Im not really sure what you mean because each song is treated separately and has its own set of plugins and processing. These are not all feeding one master buss thats then being processed its all separate. 4. Thats literally the challenge you have to tackle when making an album. Making the whole thing sound cohesive and similar level.

@@HelpMeDevvon Bro, thank you for reaching back yo ! i don't know how to master yet (still learning audio engineering language) but after i'm done mixing within my files i just do a pre master on my stereo out track and i get pretty good results. I use logic so I just wanted to make sure I was translating properly when asking my questions. but to clear things up for my second question yea i meant to ask are you mastering the stereo files individually or all of them as a whole in one session. and for my 3rd question i asked that because when I attempted mastering i found putting my plugins directly on the stereo files was giving me a different feel and some issues so i wouldnt to know if you had ran into those problems or if i was just doing it wrong xD. Finally, to your answer to question 1. i find it hard to listen to my songs in a different tempo or key (may be a psychological thing) but you said you print your masters and then adjust it to the timing that you like. do you find that as a solution this issue? By the way i really appreciate your tutorials man i feel like you talking my language when your explaining music. so shout out to you and if you don't reply this message i understand its long & u prob really busy but if you do thank you for real for real. 🙏

@@HelpMeDevvon Ok bet bet this is what I was confused about aswell! Appreciate you Devvon. I saw each song above has different plugins on them separately which confused me. But I think understand now... I'm still curious about the SESSIONS for each of those songs indiviually above. 1. Did those songs have anything on the Master Outputs when you bounced them to be added for THIS mastering session? (such as Ozone, Saturn, Blackbox, God Particle) or do those things happen in the MASTERING session like you have opened up above now? (This is where I get confused) 2. You told LJ you mix INTO the God Particle (however you don't use the limiter GP Limiter ) and a Limiter. But then then it kinda sounds like you maybe might turn those plugins off after you see you've hit the Green markers in the God Particle's UI? 3. What Limiter are you using if you are using God Particle limiter? (I don't feel like Jaycen makes this very clear. Do we leave the God Particle ON when we send to mastering, or is the God Particle THEE mastering?) 4. In the MASTERING session you currently have open, is there anything on THAT Master output or no? because I see the processing is all happening on each individual track/SONG, (Some songs having Ozone , others have Rosetta EQ etc.) So then is there any GLUE that every single is going though on the master output of this session? (I don't see the God Particle anywhere above, so that leads me to believe maybe you have that placed on that master out of this session and it's just out of frame?) Thank you, Thank you

For the transitions effects between songs, do you master those files separately or do they all go into one master bus on this arranged track? Is that what you mean by printing masters in the session? Please clarify because I feel like master the effects within the track can make subtle effects too loud.

Question. Once you have your seemless transition with all the songs in one session, when you bounce it, wouldn't it play one big audio file on a disc or stream? Or is there a way to tell pro tools that this is a separate song when it bounces?

@deadislander

Put the God Particle on your mix bus and find random songs to mix so you get better and better and better. Keep putting in your hours and keep making your breakthroughs. Also small tip, have the vocals sit right above everything in the mix while still honoring the drums. Use de-essers on your vocals and get analog gear (a harsh reality everyone keeps lying to us about). It'll help with both the low end and the high end frequencies and the response and extention of those frequencies. Get tube gear, whether that be tube mics or a tube preamp to run things thru. Your high end will actually become silky but still learn to De-esse. If you use the God Particle on your mix, when you master it, the limiter of the God Particle will already have shaved off the peaks nicely for you and if you just use some light to none EQ, a mastering compressor that allows you to bypass the low end of the mix and react to just the high end (like the Kotelnikov) all you need after is a multiband compressor (I love using the one in ozone) to smooth out the entire frequency spectrum of the song and balance it all out. That full spectrum squeeze combined with the shaved peaks then will let you push your limiter nicely without overworking it and you should get a loud master. If it's harsh, find the harsh frequencies and get rid of them! Tone it down like 1db and more if needed.
@deadislander
@deadislander Жыл бұрын
Should also mention your mixes will only be as good as the production and the things you use to get that recording so investing in a good mic and a good interface if not an actual preamp is key here. Worth mentioning is also analog summing. Gives your mixes space between instruments. AND THE MOST INPORTANT THING! THE WAY YOU ACTUALLY HEAR THINGS MATTERS MOST. THE BETTER YOU CAN HEAR THE ELEMENTS IN YOUR MIX THE BETTER EDUCATED YOUR MIX DECISIONS WILL BE. SO GET GOOD MONITORS AND SWITCH BETWEEN HEADPHONES AND SPEAKERS AS YOU MIX. Reference shit on other devices also. If this was all too complicated to understand just screenshot this and come back later.
