Quick tip on decor: I’m only getting real flowers for the stuff that the guests will see up close, everything else will be fake flowers. For example, the arch is gonna be all fake lol, while the centerpieces will be real flowers
@mercyt64313 жыл бұрын
That’s actually very smart

This is exactly what I did!! It would have been an insane amount of money to have real flowers on the arch, and since for my wedding it rained, I doubt it would have looked as nice
@ChuchiCheeks3 жыл бұрын
I'm using mostly fake flowers for centerpieces, but real greenery because a) fake greenery was more expensive and b) I didn't find any I thought looked real enough. So the guests will still experience the smell of fresh florals but considerably cheaper. I'm growing dusty miller/lambs ear (did a test run this summer) and hopefully eucalyptus. And there's tons of wild silver willow around too that I plan to forage.

@@ChuchiCheeks great tip. I'm going for a outdoor garden wedding so I'm investing my budget into landscaping my garden so it looks like something out of a fairytale this way I can enjoy the flowers more than once and as for my arch way might make it a garden fetcher

I think the biggest issue with re-sale is most brides want to earn back exactly what they paid for it. I see it on Facebook marketplace all the time. Folks people who are looking for other people's decor on Facebook are looking for the deal. If you are reselling for more than half, then that means you really want to keep it. Ya might as well take your ad down.

Tip I had for keeping bar costs down is offer 2 "signature" liquor drinks (one picked by each part of the married couple). This means miss money spent on additional liquor types that might not be drunk, less variations of mixers or garnishes, and it's easier to get an idea of the number of servings you need to purchase for.

At my sister’s wedding about three years ago, the venue required all alcohol to be purchased from them, and there was a cork fee on top of that. The groom’s parents were set to pay for alcohol. However, they only budgeted about $600 and it ended up being closer to $3,000 🥴

I see these in western weddings a lot. I feel like the very large centerpieces are not a good thing cause I have seen a lot of people complaining they can't see the person on the other side of the centerpiece! They are communicating to a person they can't even see! Not to mention some of these flowers are flowy and they just lay on the food plates and guests are just plain annoyed! Unless it's a huge venue hall, the tables won't fit like 12 people per round/square table and most tables are round/square as opposed to the rectangle. 4/6 people per table is the norm and they can't see past the big flower vase. Best to keep a smaller, less congested or even a bud vase so guests don't feel overwhelmed by them. Some might even have allergies so going the fake flower routes is better. Also if you are worried about reselling and getting your money back, just ask the catering/venue to provide the silverwave and plates/bowls. This way you don't have to pull your hair out.
@rosestewart16062 жыл бұрын
100 percent this ^^ Guests hate it when they can't see each other...or their kids. I've seen these big arrangements at fundraisers (because the florist donated them and it's basically an advertisement for their shop) and I don't like them. I've never seen them at weddings though. Flower arrangements here are generally the size you would put on your own dining table.

I plan on renting a room in my town that is under $200 it can fit a lot of people. It's not glamours but that's ok. I'm looking into drop catering from a local Italian restaurant that seems reasonably priced. I want to keep my menu simple. I love decor but don't plan to decorate much to save money. I do think flowers are beautiful and will put simple bouquets on each table. I plan on just using paper plates, disposable table cloth and cutlery. It's going to be more of an easy going vibe. I mostly want to focus on food, the photographer, my dress and flowers. I'm not engaged yet but my bf is planning to propose soon. I'm all excited. We will start saving soon and then start planning. We don't know how many people we would have but I'm guessing no more than 75 people. I'm thinking of making my 2 rabbits be the flower girls.

Thank you so much for this video, your comments on decor were the hard truth that I needed to hear lol. I'm currently planning my wedding on a budget and trying to figure out how to decorate my venue without spending a fortune. I'm actually not using a florist as I'm using my own flowers and greenery and sticking with a simple design. But the hall where I'm having my reception has a beamed ceiling, and I have dreams of draping the beams in lights, greenery and fabric, which is hard to do on a budget!!! I'm currently in the process of 'picking my momemt' and decided to create a few hanging floral features to hang above the tables and then just string up a lot of lights. Lighting always makes a space feel magical and can be cheaper than flowers and fabric. I'm also using only a few statement floral centerpieces on the tables and will have candles in vintage glassware sitting between them. I literally bought all my glassware for the candles for about $30 secondhand. Which means I can actually afford the emerald green tablecloths I really want lol. I figure people will spend more time looking at the tables than the ceiling, so I will have to forgo my dream of a beautiful floral and greenery draped ceiling 😂

One thing I wish I asked my wedding venue was even though they had a preferred vendor list, would the allow drop catering since it doesn’t require use of the kitchen
@rosestewart16062 жыл бұрын
they probably wouldn't have allowed it. Venues, at least here, have a preferred vendor list because if something goes wrong it generally reflects poorly on the venue. your guests wouldn't know if supper was late because the caterer waa late. So the preferred vendor list is companies that are dependable, consistent quality etc etc but also nothing gets broken or stolen.

Hey Jamie I was wondering if you could give some advise. I come from a conservative extended family but I have a lot of LGBT friends and my little brother, who will be in the bridal party, is trans. My fiancé also has LGBT family and the last thing I want is for anyone to get harassed. Is there a polite way I can essentially say “There WILL be LGBT people at my wedding, if that bothers you at all, do everyone a favor and don’t come.”
@holisterhots3 жыл бұрын
Coming from a somewhat conservative family, my experience is that conservatives are usually more respectful and open minded than you may think. Huh, I’ve heard from other planners that you can save SO much money by building out your bar yourself. As for leftovers, you can generally return what’s unopened. It’s probably cheapest, if doing a full bar yourself, to limit things to a few set drinks so you have to buy fewer base alcohols and fewer garnishes/ingredients. In my case, I’m doing beer and wine only, though it might not end up being cheaper since we have to use our venue’s wine with comes in at $35-60 per bottle. We’ll choose to only offer a one of the more expensive options. At least we can supply our own beer and sparkling wine!
@harpist.vanessa3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the quality of liquor and how varying you're buying! Usually a bar would have 3-5 whiskey/bourbon, dozens of wines, 3-4 vodka types etc. So if you plan for a few drinks then yeah it's cheaper, but if you buy a true full bar then it probably will be more expensive
@harpist.vanessa3 жыл бұрын
And my 3-4 I mean 3-4 different types, obviously the bottle count depends on guests!
@sarahfontenot25653 жыл бұрын
I work at a full service wedding venue. We have 1 cab option, 1 rose option, and 1 Chardonnay option. If we’re doing tap it’s cores light, if we’re doing bottles or cans we have a few other light beers like michelob ultra, bud light, etc. and Budweiser. We give the client options from no bar, beer and wine only, beer wine and cash, cash bar, or premium bar (option with tap or bottles)
@rosestewart16062 жыл бұрын
it's cheaper to do your own bar where we live too, and generally it's open bar. we had wine on the tables and a full bar for mixed drinks....you need rum, vodka, gin, rye and whiskey plus an assortment of pop and juice. But we would have had all of those mixers anyways because they're also served as non alcoholic drinks. We also went through gallons and gallons of punch, spiked and plain. And here we are able to return any thing that isn't opened. Pop is cheap especially if you grab it while it's on sale. Beer is the biggest issue because it takes up a lot of space, has to be kept cold and you need several brands to keep people happy. And none of the beer can be returned. I think it's better to provide alternatives to beer.

My venue is wonderful. The price is less than 50% of my budget. They threw in an extra room for free so that my guests have somewhere to pray. Set up and teardown is included. The only vendor I'm locked into is the caterer, who has no food minimum. But now I'm freaking out. I'm a deer in headlights and can't make any progress on any other vendor. The wedding is in March and I have no cake, no flowers, no photographer. All the DIY I plan to do for decor feels overwhelming and I don't know where to start.

How are you going with your planning and prep now? In a similar situation and not sure where to start
@Sara-vn2kz2 жыл бұрын
@@jamiemiller8850 I have cake, flowers, and photographer now. I'm working out a contract with a videographer, and I have most of the materials for my DIY. I started by ordering things that could come to me in the mail, so that I could have time to change my mind, return things, and adjust my vision. Once I had a clearer vision of what my wedding would look like, I started talking to vendors. I met with two or three of each type of vendor before deciding who to book. Ask friends and family for recommendations. That's how I found my baker and I've got a lead on a makeup artist from my bestie's other bestie. Also: be willing to let go of some DIY projects or adjust how you're going to get it done when you realize your original plan requires more of you than is reasonable to give. Edit: Just as an example, when I realized the flowers I wanted don't have strong enough stems to be in a bouquet, I came up with a completely new arrangement. I have a Harry Potter theme and was going to make a Mirror of Erised entrance to the photobooth. I ordered a Platform 9 3/4 "background" but when it arrived it had a split in it so you can walk through the brick wall to the Hogwarts Express. So that has now become the entrance and I will have a Hogwarts background instead. It saves me hours and hours of work making that mirror entrance. My original plan included a competitive game between house teams. Once I fleshed out my guest list, I realized fewer than half of them would be entertainined by a game, so I allocated the game time to more dance time, which will suit more people. My dress was NOT the dress I went in looking for, but it fits me like it was made for me, body and personality. Just be okay with plans changing as long as you still have the energy and essence of the day you've dreamed of.

I have helped many weddings with guest count. First I have them count the forsure people like parents siblings grandparents and children that will definitely be there. Then we count the wedding party plus 1 each for a spouse or whatever unless they have children then we add those few in. Then closest family aunts uncles cousins that are closely related and are close to bride and groom. Then best best long time friends who will come plus 1 unless it is known they have and will bring children Then we add the kids. Next is if it is decided no kids then kock out all the extra kids from above. I then ask the bride and groom to look this list over for a few days and knock out anyone who they have no close relationship to like if they hardly talk to a step sister or a coworker who acts like a friend lol. Then I ask them to knock off anyone they were pressured to invite by maybe mom and dad. They don't have to invite their dads boss to THEIR wedding neither a second cousin or great aunt unless they play a significant part of the bride and groom life. Then i have then reviewed again and remind them throughout this process that it is THEIR wedding and weddings are expensive especially accommodations and food and drink so THEY are not obligated to have everyone under the sub at their wedding. They are also reminded that only the people who love them and truly care for them will make their presence at the nuptials so they don't have to feel bad if their down the street neighbor of their parents or brothers x xwife are not invited .lol. you get what I mean Hope it helps. Happy weddings yall.

OK so I have a question and I apologize in advance if it’s a stupid one, but if we decide to host our wedding/reception at an all inclusive resort where spirits are included with the guest hotel stay, does that include the fact that when they attend my wedding reception we will not have to pay any hidden fees aka arms, legs, feet, and toes for let’s say “open bar” ? 🤔💯

My venue doesn’t allow decor unless they can put it out within an hour. It kinda sucks but at least I won’t be able to spend a ton on decor.

A wedding can look beautiful with just nice florals by an experienced florist and set up can be done in an hour. A wedding arch decorated with flowers can really make a nice impression ans is easy to set up.

Jamie, does a signature drink with beer and wine only make a difference? The signature drink is the only other drink offered other than beer and wine?

What is an average, or safe range to stay in for price per head for plates dinner? Buffet?
@rachelkrumenauer5312 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your location. I've heard that on the East Coast in the US, it's not unheard of to spend $75 to $150 per plate. In my smallish hometown in Wisconsin, I would say the average is about $15 to $18. The highest that I've heard of is around $30, and most of the older folks think that's too expensive. And it depends on what's on the menu. Almost every wedding that I've been to had basic roasted chicken, one other meat option, mashed potatoes, and an assortment of mystery salads drowning in mayo.

Do you coordinate in other states? Like NY?

Actually, I've only been to 2 weddings (out of 11) in which the food was great. The rest of them were eh to disappointing. :(

Is it okay to have only cake as a desert but diff flavors of cake ?
@rosestewart16062 жыл бұрын
sure. we had vanilla cake with raspberry filling and carrot cake...bride vs groom cake. at dessert time we went to the tables with trays of sliced cake and had time to see each of our guests.

That’s exactly what I am planning on doing. I love cake and don’t want to invest in getting other desserts
I tried yesterday to get the timeline but it didn’t work. Tried again today… same story ;.;

Look online for example timeliness for weddings then knock off any part of the timeline you will not use like if not doing a first look and then look at how many hours total you have left. Then part in 4 for ceremony then reception then dance then ending. This should give you the time you have for what you want to do at the wedding. If you still run into time restraint knock out any unnecessary parts of the timeline like some weddings don't do speeches or coordinated grand entrance or exits . Good luck...
