@8:07 , what did you do to keep the linear bearing locked onto the shaft? I've tried several ways, but I'm yet to see one better than a lock collar with thrust bearing
@Zie_carpentry2 жыл бұрын
👍👍✅
@aries67762 жыл бұрын
Do you mean linear or ball bearing? A linear bearing would normally be held on with a circlip holding it into the pillow block. But @8:07 it's the ball bearing.
@carterscustomrods2 жыл бұрын
@@aries6776 no. The linear block bearing (looks like a SCS16UU) and it normally slides up and down the linear shaft that it's on. But his is held in place. Normally a stop collar and thrust bearing are used in a situation like that... but I dont see it. So, something is keeping the bearing from sliding up/down the shaft, while giving it a free range of rotation, thus allowing the chuck to spin freely. But even then, the linear bearings in a UU style wouldnt hold up well under a spinning design where the shaft rotates inside the bearings. So, I'm just confused. Lol
@darren-garden2 жыл бұрын
@@carterscustomrods If you're talking about the chuck spindle, it's not a linear bearing. It's a mini lathe kit from China.

@Darren Garden ughhh those are junk! Plus only 3/8" chuck. I was going to make with 1/2" chuck, with 1/2-20 threading, but I can't find a smooth straight shaft with that thread. :( Kind of a bummer that JSK didn't make it more effective. A portable drill press like this is no good if the chuck you use us junk.

A nice upgrade would be an angle adjuster. Oh and also a depth stop would be great for repeat applications. Maybe for the next version?
@jisakukobo2 жыл бұрын
Depth adjustment can be stopped at any position by inserting a piece of wood into the linear shaft. For fine adjustment, just adjust the amount of protrusion of the drill. This method gives an accuracy of ±0.2mm.

Here's my advice, you put all that work in the magnet + base side, but the chuck + shank are not that good. I'd look for a junk drill press, there's gotta be at least one or two in your area. A rusty old small bench top one. Take the spindle + chuck from it, perfect for this.
