You are brilliant! I have struggled with this for years and I needed a solution to add film grain to a solid color - to extend a blue sky - and have it match the existing photo. Three or four swipes on the slider bars in blur - and it was exact! Thank You!

I have seen several photoshop tutorials but you are amazing, well explained and simple and you make us see the meaning of the tools to use in photoshop and what is their function in certain tutorials, for me it is significant what each tool performs when applied in The edition of a photograph. There is a 4th mode: Camera Raw > Effects > Grain. Less flexible of Blur Gallery but still useful and fast.

The first method sounds ideal but I have gone to blur gallery and field blur and dont have those three tabs inc the all important noise. CS6. so where are these options ? You dont say what version of photoshop you are using.

When I choose Field Blur, pop up window says "Could not complete the Field Blur command because the initial bounding rectangle is empty." I have to duplicate the photo layer (so that it is not a background), then choose filed blur What should I do in order to do it in your way?
