You are brilliant! I have struggled with this for years and I needed a solution to add film grain to a solid color - to extend a blue sky - and have it match the existing photo. Three or four swipes on the slider bars in blur - and it was exact! Thank You!

There is a 4th mode: Camera Raw > Effects > Grain. Less flexible of Blur Gallery but still useful and fast.

The first method sounds ideal but I have gone to blur gallery and field blur and dont have those three tabs inc the all important noise. CS6. so where are these options ? You dont say what version of photoshop you are using.
