When I first started playing over 15 years ago the vast majority of players fell into these types. Today, the player pool is much better, but you still see LOTS of these players.

Would love to see a hand analysis from one of Rampage’s slightly more maniacal sessions. As much as I like Rampage, I’d also love to see in realtime how someone can extract maximum value from a player who is throwing huge amounts of aggression out in sometimes questionable spots.

Check raise your value, and lead your strong but not strong enough to check raise made hands such as KJ-K2 on a K95r board… this is for out of position, as you will find it easy to play in position vs maniacs but OOP is a bit more challenging as they like to pounce on any weakness

Great video. I run into so many of these maniacs and struggle to deal with them at times, especially when I end up with a couple at the one table. Generally use a similar strategy, tighten right down and remove the bluffs from my 3bet range. Check call them down but by time it hits the river I struggle to call a shove with middle holdings. Gotta work on it!

I have always struggled vs the players who never fold no matter what. Mostly because they tend to run extremely lucky vs me. For instance. 5 weeks ago. A guy setting to my direct left would NOT fold anything pre flop no matter how much you bet. So the logical solution is to just raise bigger PF and print cash right???? Nope. After he sucked out on me twice once when I had JJ on a 964 rainbow flop. He called with 52 pf and rivered a 3. The other I had TT and he called with A4h. I flopped top set and got my money in on a board with 1 heart. He got runner runner to flush. So I reloaded for a 3rd bullet. I got KK and raised to $30 pf in a 1/2 game. He called. Flop was J52 two clubs. I fire a pot sized bet and he called. Turn was 9h and I had my mind made up that I was just going all in if a safe turn card came. 9h qualified in my book. I jam and he calls with J6o and catches a J on the river. These players like this just run good vs me and its extremely frustrating because these are the type of players most poker players dream about facing. But I just cant freaking beat them. Time after time after time I lose to these guys.

What does "3 bet LINEAR ranges" mean, please? Thanks. (The linear part)
@keithb40777 ай бұрын
I wasn't being rhetorical, I'm genuinely asking. :)
@tiltvpip10097 ай бұрын
Linear. You are 3 betting with hands such as 77’s to AA, 78suited all the way up to AK suited. So on a pre flop chart it looks like a straight line(linear). Polarized 3 bet. would mean you are 3 betting AA KK QQ and then weak hands like 6,3suited. 7,5 suited. So your 3 bets are polarized to being super strong on super weak.

For the maniac scenario, what would you do if the action was maniac early position limp preflop, hero in MP with QQ raise to 4bb , folds to maniac who calls. Flop is AT5, maniac jams like 25bb into a pot of like 10bb, would you call off with QQ against maniac? I was in this scenario in WSOP before and I folded my QQ, but I was thinking it may have been worth a call since he was a maniac.

Jonathan, I am winning 45bb/100 in a 1/2 NL game that is 500 max and bomb pots. This sample size is 10k hands. I know this a phenomenal win rate, and I am super pumped about it. I know that a win rate like this is almost unheard of, and I do think its mostly a testament to how bad the players I am playing against are. What I am asking is 10k enough hands to think i can actually sustain a 30+bb/100 win rate long term? Or is there a number you have as a rule of thumb, thats larger, say 30k?
@eddiepalos68979 ай бұрын
30 bb /100 is not unheard of that'd like less than 10 bb an hour..Yes is sustainable I been doing slightly better than that at my 1/2 games as well on 300 max.
@OneEyedJack019 ай бұрын
It's enough hands to say you are likely a winning player, but you need more like 100K hands to get an accurate win rate.

Maniacs felt me more often than not. It chalks up to variance as I’ll be like 60-80% favored to win but it’s for my whole stack as I was waiting for the opportunity to go all in against them then they’ll bink on the river or turn invariably. You can’t wrestle pigs without getting in the mud is my new motto with that

I’m pretty weak tight lol but it’s been profitable for over 20 years now. People don’t fold AJ or KQ when I 3b. I pay very close attention my position too, very rarely involved OOP.

Its not easy to identify player types; players in and out, table distractions and chaotic conditions It seems stack size, player age and time at the table are indications, but again embrace the variance. Many players are capable some deception within their supposed type.

The section on exploiting maniacs was pretty bad and incomplete IMO. Waiting for the nuts is the way to lose against LAGs. Read "Playing the player" by Ed Miller for a much better treatment of this topic. The key is that you need to be bluffing a lot and taking down medium sized pots against these players because their ranges are so wide. It's not just about calling down with value.
